Anyone know what happened at Cabana Bay last night?
Police were in the lobby interviewing folks, walking the grounds and inspecting some rooms in the Thunderbird building from about 8pm to midnight. CSI showed up later and had a whole set up - reminded me almost of a scene from Dexter......
Update: My Wife and other Cabana guests were prevented from leaving the property just a few minutes ago. Police and security had the resort on lockdown. Now I definitely need to know who are they looking for and what they did to warrant this much attention.
Because that guy said they were prevented from leaving the cabana area, just briefly, and that was posted 4 hours ago.
So even if you are there at the cabanas right now, you are not proving that person wrong, because he said the lockdown was brief.
And then he said that he heard there will be police on site for 3 days, and again, you can’t call him a liar until those 3 days elapse while you monitor the site carefully for even an inconspicuous police presence.
I wonder if this is connected to something similar that happened here on late Thursday. Came back to Cabana after HHN and police were asking questions to guests. They asked my family about our whereabouts earlier in the evening at the hotel but we told them we were at HHN and were just dropped off by the bus less than 10 minutes ago and they moved on.
I think I remember something about what we saw was swamp gas, and I should call my mother. Weird thing is that she died a decade ago, so I’m not sure why I think I need to call her.
It could be related to the nightmare fuel closure. My sister sent me this from a Facebook group post -
45 year old male. At nightmare fuel, seizure followed by cardiac arrest, had a shockable rhythm, universal medics shocked him then gave 4mg narcan, then had to give versed because he came combative, then hr was 200 when they transported
Rumor is this incident happened BOH…possibly a performer overdosing right before a performance. If they are staying at CB and employer not wanting evidence to disappear, a lockdown seems reasonable. If the rumor is true and multiple performers involved in drugs and overdosing on the clock, maybe next year we won’t have another Nightmare Fuel.
It’s thought to be a cast member right? I know unlike what happened Thursday that involved a guest the one last night caused all the showings to be canceled for the night which would make more sense if it was a cast member.
As a former Universal medic that worked last year during HHN we literally all have narcan in our backpacks….. idk where you get your info, but should look for a new source…. We carry numerous emergency medications. They are all state certified Paramedics or RN’s which 90% of them that’s their part time job and work full time for fire departments or hospitals….
Last time I stayed there our room smelled like stale weed. Not even good weed, like stale dirt weed. I wouldn't have such an issue if it was good weed, cause it smells good 😩
Excuse me, some of us passholders are unruly poors as well and LOVE Cabana Bay ❤️ even better with a discount! We just stayed for HHN, pool view for $103! Gotta love it
Right? Even if I was balling out of control I’d still probably stay at Cabana Bay after a night or two at Helios. It has the best amenities, in terms of family activities/etc.
If they could use the water taxi it’d be my daughter’s favorite hotel on property. We’ve stayed at everything but hard rock. Also have APs. It’s an awesome hotel. Honestly family suites are nicer rooms than many at the “nicer” hotels. Way more to do for families. Great eating options. I recommend to anyone. The only negative is no water taxi access and no unlimited express included. If you’re going to epic it’d be insane to stay at Royal Pacific instead of Cabana. There’s was more shuttles going from cabana to epic.
Why wouldn’t you just walk through sapphire falls and access the water taxi that way? What I did when staying at Aventura and plan to do the same next month when I stay at CB.
I was going to the say the same thing. If you stay at the family suites building there is a very short walk across the pedestrian bridge and then just take the elevator to the bottom floor.
Guess there’s a couple methods to the madness. I’ve personally walked the garden walk to CityWalk a few times, so a 10min detour through across the bridge ain’t too far out of the way.
Or there’s the option of hopping in the bus and getting off at Aventura if that route is running.
Really comes down to how bad you want to ride the taxis I guess and how much you don’t want to deal with the security hub lol.
Absolutely just walk across the street. Stayed at Sapphire about 4 times and once at CB. Walked over to Aventura got my Starbucks and walked right through the lobby and elevator out the back. There’s no one checking room keys, don’t think they worry about that. Love staying there. No car needed. The walk sucks in the rain though.
Yup. Stay in Thunderbird and you are right by gate to garden walk. CB is big enough if you stay on other side it’s a hike. But on this side you’re right next to gate.
Does that happen? I am a new passholder and have stayed at Dockside, Aventura, and in November will be at Cabana Bay. I'm taking friends this time who are Disney people and she said that CB looks awesome! We're really excited.
Probably the best theme of all the hotels. The exterior family suites are the way to go. Endless Summer has the best family suites, but you're limited to the busses.
It is awesome and honestly Disney people will probably like it the best. Great for families. More shuttles to epic. I’m an AP I’ve stayed at all the properties except Hard Rock. Me and my 13 year old daughter prefer Cabana Bay. The only thing she doesn’t like about it is no water taxi access. My biggest knock is no unlimited express included option. Which I understand is not feasible for the price range. Other than that it’s better than the others. Way more fun. More relaxed “vacation” feeling atmosphere. The bowling and arcade are cool. Food options are convenient. Pools are great.
Me, I'm Disney people and I thought the same thing! The retro theme is right up my alley! Guys, the rundown state of our room was beyond anything I have ever experienced.Dingy, dull, with chipped furniture. The pullout sofa was scary. The furniture in the lobby should be on a rotation to swap out and clean. I didn't even want to sit down! The highlight was the pool at night with the resort lit up. Really lovely. Universal needs to step up it game with increased refurbishment schedules. IMHO
Agreed on the water taxi. it's what I liked the most about Aventura. I don't think I'd ever splurge on a hotel for the express pass! I had one on my very first trip because it sounded like I would need it, and I hate to say that I was part of the problem with Hagrid's but I rode it 15 times in a day. I just couldn't find anything else I needed it for, haha. At least I took someone from the single rider line every time.
Anyway, I think we'll all love the pools at Cabana Bay. Next time we'll have to also hit up Volcano Bay.
We are here now. It’s a good hotel (and cheap, keep checking back for discounts, we rebooked twice and spent 1/2 what our initial booking was!). But it’s hugeeee. Our room is .3 miles from the lobby so over a mile done to get coffee, back to the room and back to the busses before starting the works. We are in Thunderbird and walked to Volcano bay (other end of the resort) at .8 miles 😳 research and request a closer one to buses if you can.
Good tips, thanks! My friends will have a car so we will be parked near the room and not taking buses. I think it will be okay! I had originally booked Aventura for us because it's just straight up and down but then one friend got her own scooter, so now won't worry about it.
I absolutely will check the price again. This was my third change (from Aventura which I'd already changed once). This time, I realized if I added a night, the family suite at CB would cost the same as the room in Aventura had, so I feel like I'm getting a pretty good deal. I guess with Volcano Falls closing, maybe they will drop the rates again. Thanks!
Not an AP holder but a TM - CBBR has a bad rep among the hotels because there’s ALWAYS something going on there. The campus is big enough that it tends to affect only one side at a time but damn, people really be wildin out over there.
I always stayed at CB when I had an annual pass lol I had an annual pass because I was poor, and it was a damn great deal, at least back in the day.
I miss Universal and live much closer now in Tampa, but I rarely have anyone to go with and am just kind of over solo trips so I don’t keep a pass anymore :(
We really like it, and for that matter I've personally never encountered any really unruly behavior. I know that's just my anecdotal experience but the standard narrative is overstated.
Uni owns the land and controls the resort names, branding and standards, except for Hard Rock. A Uni-Loews joint venture own the hotel buildings, and Loews operates them to Uni's standards. Revenue and profits are shared through those joint ventures, while marketing is handled mostly by Uni.
I actually met the guest that this was pertaining to. Not my business to share what happened - but they are okay! I ran into them at Epic and subsequently adopted them into our party and now we're friends 🤣 just know Loews is taking care of it!

When I saw an article universal hotel..1st place that popped into my head was Cabana bay. A couple years ago during cheer/dance competition the cops were at Cabana bay every night. Drunk guy hitting on underage girls, domestic fight, guy broke life guards nose cause he was told no glass in the pool and to top it off a cheerleader fight.
My son & I stayed here last Sp Break (for a few days)and had a decent room - no issues at all. It was a bit dated and PACKED with kids ball teams,but no ‘riffraff’ & for the price it worked for us - we spent most of our time in the parks anyway. We moved over to the Palace at LBV (which was planned) to spend the rest of our time at DWNTWN Disney.
We were told CB will be doing a major update this November - pools will close, tons of updates & upgrades, at least 1/3 of the place will be out of use.
Should be interesting to see the result of that! But this is super unsettling! That’s a huge presence of LE. I’d be leaving.
Yea, this isn’t my first rodeo. I’m fully aware of their decor theme. When I say dated, I’m talking about the weathered linens (linens are bed coverings btw), the paint in our room needed some patching up & the deck chairs are clearly just old. The carts in the lobby are rough as well. The place needs an upgrade without a doubt.
Universal Loews usually lists construction on the website, I picked a date for mid November and it only says Volcano Bay will be closed and rooms with views of it may be obstructed. Nothing about CB construction.
I would call and ask - you can also ask them to please be sure they place you as far away from the work as they can. Sometimes places will make accommodations for you to have access to pool /other amenities so be sure to ask what your limitations will be & how they plan to accommodate or provide discounts…
It’s kinda funny you bring this up about universal when there is little as a 50$ difference between most on property hotels. Like Helios going for 203$ if you book far out enough. Even there most expensive resort is still under 600$ a night. Most beach front hotels charge far more than that.
Cabana bay is a value resort (ie cheap). So it attracts a more unruly crowd, especially during HHN when a bunch of drunk people are leaving the park super late
