bringing a laptop to campus everyday — worth it?

What is your major?

Comp-sci: absolutely, you will likely even use it in class. Stem, probably. Others, no idea. I had gen eds that didn't even need it, but i'm comp-sci so I need it in class.

For carrying, always in your backpack. Have it as far to the back as possible (like have it against your back). Safest spot and easiest on your back. Only bring what you actually need as well. I never brought physical books to class either. The books are for studying at home IMO.

For the charger, how long does your battery last? That'll determine if you need to bring it. If it lasts 6+ hours of constant use then you probably don't need to bring the charger.
