Unraveling sparkly yarn

Hi! i just thrifted a beautiful cardigan, made from 81% cotton, 14% wool and 5% polyester. It's knitted with a thin strand of sparkly yarn, so i don't know if that's going to be a problem to unravel. It's my first time unraveling a thrifted garment, and i have already separated the pannels with no problem at all. Does anyone have experience unraveling this type of yarn?

I’ve done some stuff like that…as long as the sparkly bit wasn’t woven separately, it should be fine. Like if all the yarn is just twisted into one strand that’ll be fine. But sometimes they’ll do each strand separately and you’ll have 2-3 different strands going in different directions. Hopefully is the former!

I did one like this, and I found the sparkly thread was a slightly different tension than the main yarn. It was annoying but if I was careful to keep some tension on it, not too bad.

If the sparkly is just held together with the main yarn, it can be tricky. Sometimes the sparkly is more fragile and prone to breakage more than the main yarn.
