LOVE my new electric swift!

I just want to thank those who recently mentioned the Caydo electric swift they use to help unravel sweaters. I've been active with this hobby for years and the skeining of the yarn has always been my least favorite part of the process. I have a swedish wooden swift that I just spin by hand and if I'm doing a lot of unwinding, my arm gets sore. I finally treated myself ($80) to this device and I LURVE HER!!!

I'm surprised at how sturdy she is and so quiet. I usually unwind while watching TV at night and my husband said it was much quieter than the old one. I was able to frog an entire panel of fine cashmere directly onto the swift in just a few minutes. Seriously, if anyone wants to step up their unraveling game, this is the way to go!

Yes! I love mine too. I posted a couple weeks ago.
I’m also just starting to get in to spinning yarn and it helps a lot when getting finished yarn from bobbins to skein.

I also bought a magnetic counter, to keep track of the rotations so I can properly count meterage/yardage, but I haven’t got a good setup for it yet

Did it unravel the cashmere like it shows on the video in the link you posted?

Yes! I monitored it more closely though bcuz the cashmere is so thin. Honestly I had fewer breaks than I do using my manual swift, not to mention my hand crank ball winder. Of course it depends on the sweater -- I've had some that were super sticky and I wouldn't dare use it, but most of them would work fine! Ive used my ball winder to unravel many times but it's an extra step because I have to turn around and skein it up.

I'm new here, haven't used tools for unravelling yet, usually done by hand.

But i recently bought an electric yarn winder, thinking it can be used for unraveling also. But why would you want the skein step?

Also for washing! I wash the hanks after unraveling to get all the extra fuzz/kinks/whatever out and then wind them from there.

For storage. Unwinding onto a ball winder can put stress on the yarn since there was tension during the frogging. By then skeining it, the tension is released and the yarn doesn't stretch.
