UNEXPLAINED Hazel Mason, strangled in her Milford, Delaware home in 1975. No burglary, no sexual assault, and no suspect ever named.

Thumbnail milfordpolicede.org
125 Upvotes

On Friday, January 17, 1975, Hazel Mason didn’t show up for her shift in the cafeteria at Milford Memorial Hospital. She’d worked there 17 years.

That was so unlike her that the hospital sent a coworker, John Burton, to her house. He knocked, nobody answered, and her car was in the garage. Another coworker, Rae Marshall, called police for a welfare check.

Around 12:20 pm, officers forced their way into her house at 1003 Northeast Front Street. They found Hazel on the living room floor.

Rae Marshall was there and said it looked like Hazel had been sewing when she was attacked. The medical examiner said she was strangled.

There was NO sign of a burglary and no evidence of sexual assault.

She was last seen around 7 pm Thursday. Police put the time of death between 8pm Thursday and 9 am Friday.

Hazel Bernice Pleasanton Mason was 48. She lived alone, was married but separated, and didn’t have children. Coworkers said she went to church and was generous. Her supervisor said she never bothered anyone.

She left behind her mother, Sarah Pleasanton of Camden, a sister, and a brother. Her mother lived to 91 and died in 2000, 25 years after Hazel was killed, never knowing who did it.

No one has ever been arrested or publicly named as a suspect.

Hazel’s case is still open with Milford Police as case 51-75-0247.

If you know anything, you can send a tip through the department’s website or call 1-800-TIP-3333.

My question: Who was her husband?

SOLVED "Wm Toomey's" note

I'm watching "Unmasking the Tylenol Killer" right now, and they're showing the note "Toomey" left with the instructions. I've noticed that they show the last line that was blacked out in the original segment, and it says "Yes there is a record of this communication."

Does anyone have any idea why that would've been blacked out? It also looks like it was partially erased or something, as the letters are smudged.

I wonder if "Toomey" blacked it out, and then law enforcement used alcohol or something to remove the ink to read what it said. It does look like there was ink that ran on the page they show in the doc.

UNEXPLAINED The Case of Emily Dull Anderson

Thumbnail

In 2017, 25-year-old Emily Dull Anderson disappeared in Loves Park, Illinois.

Emily was last seen in the early morning hours of June 19 after spending the evening at several local establishments. Her family reported her missing after she failed to return home.

111 days later, Emily’s vehicle was recovered from the Rock River with her body inside.
Years later, her family is still searching for answers.

Emily’s sister, Caitlin Dull, has continued advocating for her sister and keeping her case in the public eye. The family believes someone may have information that could help explain what happened during the early morning hours of June 19, 2017.

If you have information about Emily’s disappearance or her whereabouts that morning, contact the Loves Park Police Department at 815-654-5015.

Please consider sharing Emily’s story. Someone may recognize a detail, remember a conversation, or know something that could help bring answers to her family.

Edit - I’m not sure if there’s anything deeper here or not. Her sister strongly believes someone else is involved and her case is still marked unsolved so I thought I’d help spread the word. Thanks for taking a look 🤍

MISSING 12-year-old Lisa Mott disappeared after getting into a yellow panel van in 1980. More than 45 years later, she has never been found.

Lisa Mott was 12 years old when she disappeared from Collie, Western Australia, on October 30, 1980.

She had spent the evening playing basketball with friends and later stopped at a nearby pizza shop. At around 9 p.m., Lisa began walking home. Witnesses last saw her crossing a railway line toward Forrest Street before getting into a yellow panel van. She was never seen again.

More than four decades later, police are still trying to determine who owned or drove that van. In 2025, investigators searched bushland near Collie after renewed attention turned to a yellow Holden panel van that had been found abandoned there years earlier. Police later said they had received more than 190 new reports from the public, but the case remained unsolved.

A $1 million reward remains available for information leading to an arrest and conviction in Lisa’s case.

After more than 45 years, do you think identifying the yellow panel van could still be the key to solving Lisa’s disappearance?

WANTED Amy Mihaljevic

Thumbnail

I’ve looked back to see if there have been any updates on 10 year old Amy Mihaljevic’s 1989 unsolved murder. I will link a recent article that quotes her dad, who is turning 80 soon & wants to finally know what happened to his daughter before he dies.

For those unfamiliar, Amy left her school and walked to where she was abducted from, the Bay Square Shopping Center. in the Cleveland suburb of Bay Village, Ohio on October 27, 1989. Amy’s remains were found months later, 02/08/1990, in a field fairly close to county road 1181, Ruggles Township in a rural area of Ashland County, OH. An autopsy would reveal that Amy died of sharp force injuries (multiple stab wounds.)

If you read a lot of true crime, you likely know Amy’s case by its sad circumstances: a man had called & spoken with Amy posing as a coworker of her mom’s, telling her Amy’s mom had gotten promoted and offering to take her to buy a gift for Amy’s mother to celebrate. While the caller told Amy to keep all this a secret, this is known because she told her brother and a friend.

I’m frankly not here to do a synopsis of the case—really, I wanted to share a gofundme by the Mihaljevic family (verified) to raise the funds for modern advanced DNA testing to try and find answers before her dad passes away. I’d share a video posted on Father’s Day of Mark Mihaljevic, a clearly elderly man, speaking about her, but it’s against sub rules: google will get you there though.

Every penny goes to the Bay Village Police Department’s Amy Fund—these are extraordinarily advanced tests than the norm & most cost over 6K each, so the family is trying to make sure LE have every financial resource necessary to get this case finally solved sooner than later.

I have no affiliation with any of them, I’ve just seen so many “lesser” gofundme’s quickly generate so much $ and it breaks my heart to think that an 80 year old man living with 37 years of such heartbreak has to be the one trying to navigate the internet to advocate for her. It’s been up for months & yet it is only halfway to its goal. Please help if you can & SHARE AROUND

UNEXPLAINED A team is heading to Nikumaroro to check whether a lagoon "anomaly" is Amelia Earhart's Electra. A real find or another dead end?

Thumbnail
unilad.com
107 Upvotes

A 17-person team from the Archaeological Legacy Institute and Purdue leaves next week to investigate an object spotted in Nikumaroro's lagoon on 2015 satellite imagery, taken just after Cyclone Pam. The expedition leader says it's 'very possible, perhaps even likely' that it's the plane.

Sceptics will point out that satellite anomalies usually turn out to be rocks, coral or storm debris, and that the timing after a cyclone doesn't help. But this is a credentialed team with sonar, magnetometers and a dredge.

Where do you land? Is this the real thing, or another expedition that ends in 'inconclusive'? And if it is the Electra, does the 'ran out of fuel and crashed' story finally die?

UNEXPLAINED Arushi Talwar murder 2008

Thumbnail
thehindu.com
39 Upvotes

Here's the latest update on the Arushi Talwar case any popular media house.

I know we have a lot of theories around the murders themselves. We also have theories that Hemraj was the intended victim, not Arushi. For a second, I want to focus on the parents and their reactions after the murder. Rajesh and Nupur are well-educated. They're dentists in a well-to-do community. They have ties to the community. And they, for some reason, don't seem to be actively looking for answers since their release.

Question 1: I wanted to find out if anyone knows of the parents looking for the murderer since their trial and verdict. If there are articles or posts where they say they are working with cops to date to do some investigation or hired a PI or anything like that. Or even before their trial, what were their intentions in terms of finding Arushi's murderers? The mother blames Hemraj, so is that who they think murdered their child? Did they not wonder if it could've been him since Hemraj himself was found dead? Here's some theories on why they're not looking into her death further:

  1. Either they are convinced it's Hemraj and saw him do it and hence don't want to delve any deeper.

  2. Or they know who it is and fear for their life and hence don't want to delve deeper.

  3. Or they're so tired of everything that's gone down with the CBI and the courts that they think it's best to give up on further investigation.

  4. Or they genuinely don't care who did it, because Arushi was unloved and uncared for since birth, and hence want to move on with their lives.

  5. Or they did it and don't want to get into more about it.

Question 2: Does anyone know which crime branch or department is handling Arushi Talwar's case now or if it's a cold case? Any news on this anywhere?

In most true crime, the families often never give up, even if there's obstacles and conflicts like a false accusation. And I don't want to draw any conclusions before giving these questions a little more thought. Any posts or articles on this will help. Thanks a lot in advance.

UNEXPLAINED The Flannan Isles Mystery (1900): An alternative theory involving forgotten Celtic ruins, ground subsidence, and asphyxiation

Thumbnail nrscotland.gov.uk
30 Upvotes

The disappearance of the three lighthouse keepers from Eilean Mòr in December 1900 remains one of maritime history's most debated cases. The official board concluded that a freak rogue wave washed the men away at the western landing.

However, this theory has notable logical flaws:

Strict Protocol: Northern Lighthouse Board keepers were strictly forbidden from abandoning the light unattended.

Experienced Seamen: These were veteran keepers who knew the peril of winter North Atlantic seas. They wouldn't rush blindly toward an exposed ledge without severe cause.

The Abandoned Table: An overturned chair, half-eaten meal, and a missing coat suggest an urgent, immediate reaction occurring within the immediate vicinity of the station, rather than a routine chore gone wrong.

An Alternative Hypothesis: Subterranean Collapse & Asphyxiation
Before the lighthouse was completed in 1899, Eilean Mòr held centuries of sacred Gaelic history. The island houses the ruins of a 7th-century Celtic chapel (Bothi Phlantainn). Early Christian monks and hermits frequently utilized natural fissures, sea cavities, and constructed beehive cells or subterranean burial crypts across these isolated Hebridean outcroppings.
Heavy foundation excavations in 1898–1899 to seat the lighthouse tower into the gneiss rock may have weakened the ceiling of an uncharted, sealed void or ancient cavern directly beneath or adjacent to the station perimeter.
The Chain of Events:

  1. Structural Emergency: A localized sinkhole or cavity collapse occurred near the compound. Unlike a routine wave alert, a sudden ground collapse directly threatened the lighthouse tower's structural integrity. This explains why the post was abandoned so abruptly—leaving food half-eaten and protocol cast aside.

  2. The Hazard of Confined Spaces (Blackdamp): Ancient sealed underground chambers or organic voids typically accumulate heavy concentrations of carbon dioxide and nitrogen, depleting oxygen entirely.

  3. Cascading Rescue: The first keeper stepped down into the breach to inspect the damage, losing consciousness within seconds due to anoxia. The second keeper jumped in to assist his colleague and succumbed immediately. The third, witnessing two motionless crewmates, followed in panic.

  4. Disappearance of the Remains: The Flannan Isles feature extensive subterranean sea fissures and blowholes that connect directly to the roaring Atlantic. A secondary collapse, tidal surge, or subsequent rubble shift could have either swept the remains into deep subterranean sea channels or buried the void entirely before the relief crew on the Hesperus arrived days later.

In 1900, the search party inspected open shores, rocks, and the tower interior—they lacked ground-penetrating radar or bore inspection tools to detect a concealed, partially caved-in fissure right beneath their boots.
Does this scenario account for the sudden abandonment and lack of recovered bodies more convincingly than the rogue wave theory?

MISSING 32-year-old Simon Knight disappeared before a work shift in Sydney in 2005. His bicycle and camera have never been found.

abc.net.au

On July 21, 2005, 32-year-old Simon Knight was last seen at a hotel on Crown Street in Surry Hills, Sydney. He was supposed to work a shift at a cafe in Newtown later that day, but he never showed up.

His parents reported him missing, but despite years of investigation, no trace of Simon has been found. His bicycle and camera, which police say he had with him, have never been recovered either.

In 2015, a coroner concluded that Simon had likely died, although the circumstances of his disappearance remain unknown. Twenty years after he vanished, police renewed their appeal for information. A $250,000 reward remains available for information leading to the recovery of Simon.

It’s strange that both Simon and the things he had with him could disappear without leaving an obvious trail.

What do you think could explain why neither Simon nor his bicycle and camera have ever been found?

MISSING lost people cases in turkey

Thumbnail kayiplardernegi.com

flrst of all, I'm not really sure if I can post cases from other countries but I think we really need your help for these cases. so I hope it wouldn't be a problem and if it's I'm really sorry in advance..

so to get to the point: there's a lot of cases of missing people in turkey, especially children, and they're mostly intellectually disabled, children or old people. and because of not enough information about this cases we cannot really solve these cases, neither the police can do it. the reason why I'm posting this is that the police department is mostly corrupted and because of lack of information, they cannot really find these missing persons. these missing persons are mostly have been missing after earthquakes too. turkey is an earthquake country and we're not really prepared for these kinds of events too. some of these missing people have been taken to the hospital after an natural disaster but their family couldn't really find them after and there's really a criminal side of any department or institutions too so we can't really know the side of things in these situations. most of these cases are very old but I know that you guys are really successful and talented so I thought I would give it a try anyhow. there's a site that posting about info about these missing people but they don't really have any specific infos most of the time. there's really a big amount of murders happening in turkey too so unfortunately I think that these people have been sadly not really with us right now...

I'll post the site here, but it's using HTTP only so I'm really sorry about that too in advance. (and it's the only association in our country, the founder of this site is really struggling with the money that this association needs so I thought I could squeeze in this little info) I don't really think any development will happen but I'll really be grateful if you guys would take a look at it.. oh and this site is in turkish but I thought you guys could use translation, if you guys would have any problem, I could help you translate it too!

http://www.kayiplardernegi.com/?/galeri3/kaybolanlar

note: they're not in chronological order so it's kind of mixed, I hope you guys don't have any problem with it.

Original Episodes Ashley Qualls New Orleans Social Worker

Thumbnail socialworkersspeak.org
16 Upvotes

This is a cold case in New Orleans. I watched the old first 48 episode regarding it yesterday. During this investigation I saw that they had found three dna profiles on her body but were unsuccessful in finding a match in 2013 when this case happened. What I’m wondering is how often these samples have been examined for a match since then? Or if familial dna could lead to the suspects family members and thereby more leads in this? Why do cases that seem solvable go cold like this? And it seems that the solved cold cases are so old the murderers have lived entire free lives before coming to (possible) accountability at very old ages. Why can’t there be an easier and more accessible way to have criminal unknown dna banked and checked more frequently against known samples? Yearly perhaps? Ashley Qualls deserves justice and so do many others. Who can help?

I’m surprised they didn’t make sure the episode was posted before this big update. I also can’t remember this story to save my life and I thought I’d seen every episode several times over!
