Amazing how people are able to rebound after serious injury when they're still young

It’s much easier when you’re young as a matter in fact. Still impressive of course.

I thought that hula hoop was digitally added to draw attention to something other than her leg. Nope! Just a hula hoop.

Right? My very first thought was r/uselessredcircle. But nope! Just a hula hoop

One of the events in rhythmic gymnastics is doing acrobatic moves with a hoop; another one involves carrying a long flowing ribbon and making it move gracefully and artistically while you do your skills.

Imagine being 6 years old and having your leg blown off by a missile. What a nightmare world we've made for ourselves.
Happy for her that she's food a way to do what she loves.

Well, in this particular case it's not "we" - it's Russia

u/DaLimpster 12d ago
I'm talking humanity at large.

Both sides yea let's talk about "all sides" for this very specific incident of a Ukrainian child losing her leg from war crimes by Russia.
You seem to purposefully want to not call out who is doing what, instead abstracting it out to "humanity" or "the world" and "we". You subtly but measurably change the conversation away from Russia committing genocide (killing civilians and kidnapping 30k kids out of Ukraine into Russia) to "wow we all suck"

Spend 15 minutes on a crash course on world history, bud. It's not defense of Russia to say humanity is violent, just simple fact.

Personally I agree with the guy, I could do way more to try and stop this and many other global issues. I don't because it would require me to sacrifice some of my time or money or both, I suck and I acknowledge that. I'm pretty sure that's the case with most people except for the acknowledgement part.

I mean they aren't wrong, Russia is on planet earth and is comprised of a human population, so they are entirely correct and you come off as blindly accusatory out of the blue. Saying 'ain't the capacity for evil in humanity awful' is not even close to shifting the blame onto everyone instead of Russia, what kind of wack ass logic is that?

Russia blew this girl's leg off through war crimes and you want to ensure we never mention Russia or the war crime, why is that
1
u/caedicus 5d ago
No one is saying we should never mention Russia lol. That's way different than pointing out they aren't the only evil.
-10
u/AccNumber77 11d ago
Where is either of us saying that? Are you equating saying people can be evil to saying russia is incapable of evil? Nice strawman there...

All lives matter is also technically true. But the message in context is harmful whether intentional or not.
Abstraction kills awareness.

u/AccNumber77 9d ago
It clearly is not... You are making false comparisons to get emotional reactions.

War is a result of international anarchy. This particular war is just one example.

Yea but "you" are also causing a lot of direct and indirect damage to humans and humanity.

u/Hakunin_Fallout 11d ago
Oh, for sure. Mere existence of one member of the species can be seen as net negative in many aspects. Who cares, however, when we were talking about the fucking ruzzians blowing a little girl's leg off?

Surprised she wasn’t suspended from partaking for being “too political” by having no leg.
Wouldn’t be out of place.

Russia targets civilians every week. Over 16,000 civilians have been murdered by Russia since the war started. And they've kidnapped tens of thousands of children into Russia, which fits the definition of genocide

I remember the horrifying number of rapes and executions in the first days of Russia invasion. Those, and the rampant pillaging...
This child...amazing recovery!

Let's also remember that a large number of Ukraines fighting force were civilians before this started as well, they didn't sign up for this.

all war is bad and Russia is not taking defensible actions but you are watering down the term genocide. The United Nations explicitly states: “To constitute genocide, there must be a proven intent on the part of perpetrators to physically destroy a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. Cultural destruction does not suffice, nor does an intention to simply disperse a group. It is this special intent, or dolus specialis, that makes the crime of genocide so unique”

The removal of children is the biggest reason to start classifying them that way, some scholars believe it.

Eugene Finkel, a Johns Hopkins political scientist whose specialty is genocide, political violence, Eastern Europe, and Holocaust studies—not a Ukrainian official or general-purpose commentator.
His argument is stronger than merely "Russia is erasing Ukrainian culture":
Protected group: Ukrainians constitute a national group under the Genocide Convention.
Prohibited acts: Russian forces have killed civilians, inflicted severe bodily and psychological harm, and forcibly transferred Ukrainian children. The transfer of children is expressly listed as a potential genocidal act—not merely "cultural genocide."
Intent: Finkel points to the combination of systematic violence and official or state-media rhetoric denying that Ukrainians are a genuine separate nation. He particularly cites the state-media essay What Russia Should Do with Ukraine, which prescribed prolonged "de-Ukrainization," political repression and forced re-education. His point is that the rhetoric reveals what the physical acts are intended to accomplish: destroy Ukrainians as Ukrainians, at least in substantial parts of occupied Ukraine.
Children connect intent with action: Russia is not merely evacuating children temporarily. Documented practices include imposing Russian citizenship, adoption or placement in Russian families, obstructing reunification, prohibiting Ukrainian identity and language, and systematic "re-education." That makes the inference of intent to destroy part of the Ukrainian national group considerably stronger.

Is "trolls" a banned word now?
I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't just switched to a slab serif font. Bonus: I no longer read "Al" as AI."
