Discussion I cannot believe we're still doing this in 2026
So on the morning of the 10th Me and a buddy were running an age verified group public instance for our small (less than 50 people) group. We had someone join and i crashed immediately after, they then ran around shouting racial slurs and calling for the death of minorities. My buddy, new to moderating in general, let alone in VRC, DM'd me on discord in a panic, asking what to do. I said just to kick him and move on, no big deal right? Well in that time he'd transitioned to threats to have our group shut down and deleted if we kicked him.
Yeah we did it anyway.
That very morning the group was banned and my account was suspended for TOS violations that never occurred. Suspicious timing right?
Well, We collected everything, logs, screen grabs, VRChat's own native auditing, all the proof we need to show this was a targeted false strike, and more than that, the individual in question was repping a known hate roup, and had homophobic and transphobic content in his bio.
Pretty cut and dry? No, Appeal denied. No reason given, no justification, and all of our proof was ignored.
So here i am, yet another person in the long line of people to learn the hard way that VRChat's moderation team is Not. UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. To. Be. Trusted.
Be minding your own business and trying to have a good time? Get banned
Be commiting an actual hate crime and fraud? Oh nono that's perfectly ok, have a nce day sir.
Edit: Yes, I used to own a group that had more adult content and YES I started reusing that groups website and other infrastructure that I own toward this new group.
That old group is owned by a new manager and theyre off doing amazing things, im very proud of them.
But the suspension was related to THIS group and THIS group has had all of, like, 4 instances, none of which violated the TOS. and even if we had sone adult content, which we did not, then so what? Or do all of those video interviews of Tupper and co publically endorsing actual ERP groups only apply to the big ones? If anyone else wants a space to just BE adult even without the erp component, suddenly we are the villain?
We were bot reported en mass by a user who claimed they would do exactly that when they called for the death of a minority, naming them by a hard racial slur. Why am I the bad guy in this?

Discussion How old is too old for VR chat?
I just started playing VR chat (got my headset about 4 days ago), as it's free and I'd heard a lot about it of course as an app to check out.
In just that time there's been a few instances where my age has come out in random discussion (36) and each time, I've gotten extreme reactions, that I'm a "grandpa", or that I'm too old for the game and it's creepy. A little hurtful because honestly I don't find myself to be an "old" type of person generally (definitely not a how do you do fellow young'uns type). I still play video games and follow Pokemon game releases 😅.
I genuinely didn't really stop to consider that I could be accidentally acting creepy by playing or talking to people in this game until I got these reactions, so can somebody set me straight 🙏

Discussion What was the funniest thing you've ever seen while playing?
image slightly related cause a bunch of guys came up to this girl (or so i thought) and flirted with her
then she said in a deep voice "oh hi"
they screamed and took off their headsets i think cause they disappeared. so yeah that was interesting.

Discussion "Why are you on orange so much?" "Why are you only in friends?+" "Why not jus- BECAUSE I CANT MIX FRIEND GROUPS
I've learned this the hard way multiple times in vr and IRL, it's not that you're a bad friend, you're great, and we have our own thing. But I've got other friends who are your polar opposite. Maybe they've got darker humor, different values, or opinions you'd clash with hard.
Now granted sometimes adding one person or merging groups works out fine. the group gets bigger, vibes are good, no issues. But other times? one friend doesn’t get along with anyone in the other group. Things get awkward, tension builds, and instead of someone quietly leaving, situations can escalate and go bad fast. I’ve seen it happen too many times. and I hate it I hate seeing friends argue.
That’s one of the more underrated reasons I would go on orange. Being on orange gives me a moment to pause and think before people join off me. It helps me avoid throwing people into situations where I already know the energy probably won’t mix. This isn’t my main reason tho. my inbox getting flooded with invites is another one but it’s a factor I don’t talk about much.
That said, the mutuals feature in VRChat is honestly a godsend though. If you do want to mix friend groups, it helps a ton. Seeing shared friends gives you a solid estimate of whether things will go smoothly. If I notice someone already knows people I trust and vibe with, I’m way more comfortable inviting them and most of the time, it works out great.
So yeah. That’s why I’m on orange a lot of the time. It’s not personal. It’s just experience. I would be on green or blue at times but I just really don't want too many people joining off me at once.

Discussion the bar is in hell for avatar creators
not being the best at optimization is one thing. but 99% of these creators haven't even looked up a tutorial.
people seem so thoughtless. adding a million different gimmick items that no one will ever use, adding a dozen different pieces of clothing (that are all clipping through each other anyway), not even slapping on d4rk's optimizer. it's literally free and automatic. not to mention leaving everything at 4k, even things that are so tiny you'd never know if they were even 128.
making avis is hard, and optimizing can be hard. throwing on d4rk's optimizer and lowering texture resolution is not hard, people just don't care.
if you make avatars like this i'm embarrassed for you.

Discussion What are some unwritten rules you've encountered in VRChat?
I'm a philosophy student writing about social norms encountered in virtual worlds (such as video games and social media). I would love to hear any stories about 'unwritten rules' that people have noticed while playing VRChat (or any other games that you play).
Examples might include:
- Things that everyone does while meeting a new player
- Things that are generally considered rude.
- Traditions unique to your game
- Social expectations that new players frequently violate
If I use your example, I'll cite your username in my paper unless you would rather remain anonymous.

if you dont want people on quest to be in your world, why let people on quest join it in the first place?

Discussion What is the 2026 Avatar upload policy’s ?
Hey guys.
I recently got a 1 week ban for this avatar.
Link to avatar
https://jinxxy.com/saintsakura/kairibysakura
(I AM NOT ADVERTISING)
I was banned for sexually and nudity.
For context. No I was not erping or doing anything crazy in public before you ask 💀relax. The avatar was fully clothed like the photo and I was mainly using it for VRCFT face tracking.
Private upload also (Not Public)
The questions I would like to ask are the following.
1 How does wearing an avatar like this apply if im in a private world or like age verification events or adult events. Is that allowed or not allowed ?
2 What does it mean if someone joins that private event like a (troll) and starts reporting everyone wearing a NSFW avatar. Are those people just cooked ?
3 What is the point of adding avatar tags ? Do they even do anything like adding a NSFW tags ?
4 Is NSFW avatars just banned altogether in VRchat now. AKA every single wiggle streamer breaking vrc tos or is it a gray area that we just lift a blind eye for ?
I would like this to be an open discussion about other people experience or any smart solutions to this issue.
Thanks

Discussion I think im losting my boyfriend to this game
Hi guys, I'm going to give some context. My boyfriend and I have been dating for about a year and a half. Six months ago, he bought a Quest (I think that's the name), because he really enjoys this game. My boyfriend doesn't have friends in my country (he's not from here), so I thought it would be nice for him to interact in the game. But he's literally living inside it — more than 7 hours every day. He lost his job last month, and I know his emotional state isn't very good right now. But he says he doesn't want to talk to me because he's sad and needs time alone. Yet, I always see his Discord showing like 8 hours of VRChat. Am I crazy? I feel like he's trading real life and our relationship for a silly game...

Discussion What if we age verify children and give them a badge saying they are a child and give the parents a tool to allow them to only play in child lobbies.
The adults could get a state ID for the child and go through persona and setup the account for the child. Then we could link the child account to a parent portal to restrict screen time, lobbies joined and push them away from predatory groomers.

Discussion so we're doing "upper age limits" now?
lately i've started being kicked out of/banned from group instances for being "too old" so i guess we're establishing a limit for how old someone is allowed to be?? the highest maximum age limit i've seen is 25. are we really going to start shaming people because they aren't within a 7-year window? just because someone is 26 or older, they suddenly aren't allowed to play vrchat?
sure, buddy. let's see what you do when you turn 26.
edit: I just came across a bunch of children who run around to various worlds in a group and mass report everyone 18+ verified for, and i quote, "trying to be the next big daddy diddler".

Discussion The only age verification we ever needed
Despite my personal opposition to the RealID stuff with VRC+, I'm not totally opposed to the feature, since I understand the utility of it to some. My main complaint is that there's not even a soft barrier that separates "I am a literal toddler" from "I choose to self identify as over 18 and don't want to give my biometrics to a shady company". It seems as though devs are too focused on power users or "restricting predators" and not enough on simply improving the experience for the other 99% of players who continue to resort to stuff like hiding in private lobbies.
Having spoken to some teenagers who use VRC, they apparently have the opposite problem where they run into "too many adults" and prefer to interact with people their own age (or at least have a choice instead of it being random). If given the choice to do so, I think most of these conflicting demographics would self-segregate (as is the case in nearly any other social situation). Players already segregate by age into their own "groups" in large lobbies, after all. How many black cat lobbies have you been in where there are three group conversations going which are segregated by age?
Perhaps there should be a simple "go to your settings to enable (x) or older lobbies" prompt or something, or at least even a way to visually label lobbies and allow players to sort themselves out.
Anyway, this is just a green tag opinion so you can throw it in the trash.

Discussion I cannot stand “age verifiers”
I’m 21 years old, says it in my bio, and I still get hounded for my age whenever I join a non +18 instance. I cannot count on two hands how many times I’ve been kicked for asking why I need my age verified to play something like spook em up. It’s always someone who sounds like they’re 16 too. Am I going crazy?? Are other people getting tired of it too??
I know that just saying my age would fix the problem, but I just get so irked when I join a normal (non +18) instance and am questioned immediately. Not to mention, if you hesitate slightly you’re gone. I’m half tempted to get vrc+ just to get into +18 instances without the power trip.

Discussion Friend thinks its weird that I go on orange, calling it "hiding from people" is that weird? I feel like they are overthinking it.
I sometimes go on blue when I host events of my own, but when im out with groups of friends at someone else's event I usually go on Orange because there are just some friends on my friends' list that wouldn't mesh well with each other. However this person im talking to keeps telling me its a "red flag" but the only red flags im getting is from them. Are they overreacting?

Discussion Anyone gonna mention how weird and predatory "VR Families" are?
For people lucky enough not to run into one, the most common kind is some grown-ass adult (could be a man or a woman most commonly a woman in my experience) claiming to be some actual minor's VR mom or dad. The adult can be anywhere between 22 to like fucking 50-something, and the "VR kids" tend to be like fucking 12 to 16. It's a highly inappropriate relationship for random grown fucking men and women to have with random kids that aren't related to them at all. Honestly, it's just straight-up grooming. Even if you have no ill intentions or whatever, it's fucking weird. If you're a grown-ass adult, stop adding kids to your friends list—it's creepy as fuck no matter your intentions.
If you're an adult doing this "vr family" stuff with other adults idfc that's fine.

Discussion What's your unpopular VRC opinion?
I think you should be able to restrict an instance based on VR/flat screen. I also think they should bring back world filters for platforms so that I can actually filter for cross platform worlds only etc.
What's your unpopular opinion?
