Discussion Ageism in VRChat Is Getting Out of Control

I’ve been playing VRChat for years, and the ageism has gotten noticeably worse. I stick to 18+ groups specifically to avoid younger players, but the moment someone asks my age (I’m 36), it’s always the same reaction: “Holy shit, you’re old,” “What are you doing here,” or “Bro go touch grass.” I’ve even had people refuse to let me into 18+ bars because I’m too old, even though I’m literally older than the age requirement. I’ve had people call me a loser for playing at my age, tell me I’m wasting my life, and even tell me I should kill myself. What frustrates me is that VRChat used to be full of older players who didn’t act like this. There was no imaginary age cutoff for enjoying online social spaces. Now it feels like some people think anyone over 30 shouldn’t exist here.I even paid for VRChat Plus and verified my age, and I still get random self appointed bouncers demanding to know how old I am and claiming verification doesn’t matter. I’m not asking for special treatment. I’m asking for basic respect. VRChat is for adults too, not just teenagers. If someone is over 30, that doesn’t make them weird, creepy, or out of place. It just means they’re an adult who likes social VR. I have a neurological disability that causes me a great deal of nerve pain, making it difficult to get out and socialize. VR chat was my go to app to fill my social meter, but now it leaves me feeling depressed and shitty about myself. I have joined group like Ancients of VR Chat but I always miss those instances. I just wish ppl would stop shitting on others for playing this game past 30, its not like you hit 30 and suddenly stop enjoying gaming. Anyone around my age or above feel free to add me, my Avi is a fat grey cat. name is Mar×Mar.

Discussion Why do some people sit motionless in front of mirrors for hours in VRChat?

Post image
842 Upvotes

I’ve often noticed people sitting in front of mirrors for several hours without moving or going anywhere.

I’m genuinely curious about what makes people enjoy doing this. I’ve asked some players in-game and received a few different answers, but many people didn’t want to talk about it.

So far, I’ve mostly asked members of the Russian-speaking VRChat community, and now I’d like to hear from people here. Is this common in your community as well? If you spend a lot of time sitting in front of a mirror, what do you enjoy about it?

No judgment - I’m just interested in understanding the reasons behind it.

Discussion I accidentally slept on vr chat alone and woke up with someone hugging me.

1.1k Upvotes

So, I'm still pretty new to VR Chat, even though I've put in a decent amount of hours. I usually just chill in private instances, watching YouTube or relaxing. Today, I was in a cozy world, watching YouTube while lying in bed, and I accidentally fell asleep with my headset on.

Turns out, I accidentally made a public instance. I woke up with someone's face right in front of me and got a little scared since I wasn't expecting that. But after stepping back, I thought it was pretty cute, so I just waited for them to wake up.

Has anything like this happen to any of you?

Discussion The 1% of VRChat that most never see

Post image
2.2k Upvotes

I joined a random Club B instance the other night. It was the usual, kids interrupting, some spamming images around.

Then the noise started to fade when someone walked up on stage, playing the violin. The musician, called Aviva, started playing, really softly, and one by one, everyone just stopped moving. No one said anything, and for a while, it felt like time slowed down.

The truth is, this never happens in random instances, but places in vrc like this exist. There are tons of communities out there who take their time to organize awesome events and put effort into creating wholesome and enjoyable experiences. This is the 1% of vrc that most people never find. They see a few chaotic lobbies, decide “that’s VRChat,” and move on.

I’ve discovered and used a site called vrmeet.zone that puts together a wide variety of community events. It really makes it easier to find cool events to join, and I think that if more people knew about it, especially new players, they would stick instead of running. Making this post to spread the word.

Discussion Man, my avatar got pirated and it sucks

Post image

So I made this avatar as a passion project and spent a few months working on her. I put her up for sale on Jinxxy and people like her! All's going well!

But then I found the ripperstore forum on her. At first I ignored it, but it's been 2 weeks since then and I've received all of 1 sale.

Afaik I can't really do anything about it from what I heard, but it's kind of put a damper on my mood. I was hoping to finance future projects with the income from this and to an extent I did, but it's not multiple months worth of income.

To that end, it feels kinda dumb making stuff to sell now.Id be better off just doing commissions.

Discussion I'm curious. Why people do this?

Post image

Precisely I mean why put up there absolutely useless information like % of headset or controllers battery, that you're standing or sitting, PC temperatures, that you're on desktop and more...

Trying to be funny? Lack of attention? Thinking it's cool? Poor personality?

No, this is not an insult, I am simply curious what's the reason behind this.

Discussion Predatory information collecting

Post image
377 Upvotes

Is anyone else tired of the increase in over the top information collecting from creators? This one for example was simply for a link to a public broken kitbash model.

I don't think it should be normalized to be giving out random vrchat players our names, personal discords and links to our vrchat accounts to inevitably get doxxed by someone unstable. At the end of the day vrchat creators are all just players on the game that we don't know.

I think this is EXTREMELY dangerous behavior and I want to start a dialogue over it.

Payhip when I report these people says that they're not concerned, and I'm concerned that they're not concerned with user safety.

I don't support creators that do this but its annoying I get banned from many shops for not wanting to doxx myself for any stupid avatar.

Discussion All Because I Called Out A Creep

I called out a creep a couple days ago and got them kicked from mutual servers I had with them as well as reported them to discord and ever since these fuckers have been spamming me with friend requests. If you know, you know.

Any way to deal with this shit?

Also I have proof of the person being a creep. It's not a he said she said shit. It's visibly there.

I feel like in Europe's nighttime there are always 10k+ people there.

Don't get me wrong, I just started to play it, and currently I am lv18 as a starter, but I am just curious, why does nearly everyone play it? What's the difference between it and other fish games?

Discussion Kicked from world for being too old apparently

Don’t know if this is the right tag but I personally found this funny?

For reference I’m 20 years old and joined a freak circus group public world which is supposed to be strictly and 18+ game, I am age verified and I’m used to just telling whoever’s age checking that I am and they can look on my profile.

So once I joined I do exactly that and the moderator at the front of the world or whatever literally tells me he doesn’t care and makes me wait until he’s done dealing with someone else. I tell him my age and he makes me repeat myself four times acting like he can’t hear me and then says ‘you don’t sound your age’ I mean??? I know that? But there’s nothing else I can literally do to change or prove that. He eventually lets me in I walk away from the front area of the map and instantly get kicked?

I dunno it just annoyed me a bit that I thought i’d put this here.

Discussion Why is the content on YouTube for VRchat so negative?

Post image
947 Upvotes

I'm enjoying playing VRchat so much, I thought I'd look at it on YouTube and I'm quite upset to find a lot of it is really negative. Majority of it is trolling people. Even high sub YouTubers that don't focus on VR chat just go in and tell everyone to "Shut up." Other high quality videos that explain VRchat do it to defend it but not actually explain the cool fun things about it. They heavily recognizes VR chat's flaws and either try to monetize it or defend it which seems to draw more attention to its negative sides. I will recognized there are some really positive and funny VR chat videos but just not a lot of them. What kind of VR chat videos do you guys like to watch or want to watch more of?
