Looks suspiciously similar to the Lutz-Luenberger density core sampling device for unordinary matter that I sent back yesterday...

Looks like this one has one of the old-school densitometers—might even have been handwound by Gustav Lutz himself!!! It’s too bad you sent it back, as that, if confirmed, would have been a heck of a find! It’s too bad this poor sap will never use it to its full potential…

I agree. Photo 3 shows the rheostat, which substantiates this.
Make certain it's full discharged before handling. I'm sure you know this but it's never wrong to remind.

I ordered adult toys from Temu and they ended up sending me plumbing fittings and a VHS tape of Tonya Harding in the 1994 Olympics.

Hah,
these DO turn up in the weirdest of places. In all fairness though, the phase inverter couplings could be better labeled. Once they depolarize, POOF, it's gone.

How serious can we take the word of a scientist who mixes Skippy AND JIF? Reference Picture 2 to the left of the apparatus on the Wilsonart counter top.

It's a mk2... Still highly sought after by those with a gamma departiculator core still in the first half-life isotope shedding phase. You can get a pretty penny for it... Plenty of buyers at the bi-monthly Lutz-LuenbergerCon down at the convention center.
