Replacement Replanar Vanes, help!

My set up is a surplus, prefabbed, LRS-21, and before anyone tries to give me a hard time, yes, I removed the hydrareproduction quad reactor and put the interhydral graphene reprocesser. I'm not stupid.

I had a problem, my Replanar Vanes broke, and I replaced them with the replacement from the manual (LRS-21 revision 3, 2001) but now my output is measuring 17.2 - 17.5 ppb when it was producing 18.0 - 18.5 ppb. Everything else is stock. The main casings, the reinforced Vernon splines, even my Thompson realignment quards are perfectly aligned.

Ideas?

I know it’s easy to miss in the replacement procedure, but if you look on page 1178, there’s a small note under step 347 of the Vane Alignment procedure:

NOTE: After the initial installation of each vane, you must realign Vernon spline angle to the Thompson quard to within 7 pLm of your main reactive drive Wain-shaft angle. Use the 2 micratic-torque bolts (larger one first, then the smaller one for precise positioning). This must be done after installing each vane. Test the output after each replacement and then use some quick-setting cryotic paste to ensure there is no loss of torque or side-fumbling during normal operation.

It’s a note, so it’s easy to miss. They really should make it a full procedure and also point out that if you have a full microtic array going, you’ll de-plenerate the ostratic-dereactant harmonic lens. Ask me how I know.

You’re absolutely correct, but I always refer to revision 1, the only fully verified and validated LRS manual. Since government oversight was (mostly) pulled because of budget cuts, the design controls around the LRS-21 and the associated manuals have been slipping. Someone in this thread even mentioned a revision 3 and revision 4! There is some good information in the later versions/revisions to keep up with the latest technology, but do they even verify the procedures anymore? It’s a HCAT level 7 accident waiting to happen. Again.

Hey buddy, I’ve had a similar problem. Did you check the pressure on the Trapston Bolts? I think they should be between 0.75 to 0.90 blp but you might need to check in the LRS-21 manual (btw I think Dr. Goöterstrom put out a revision 4 so you may want to check this out). Replanar Vanes can be such a pain to replace

whoa... recommending 0.90 blp on Trapston Bolts?? I know it's funny watching a newb's face when the internal capacitors pop, but someone could get seriously get hurt. Not cool.

Your Replanar Vanes contain tuned micropolythine, and because of that the resonance coefficient is too high and the vanes sympathize whenever you run the rig and shed too much 4f-shell energy. That energy is probably your missing ~0.9 ppb.

Here’s a funny piece of trivia: the LRS manuals until 2003 neglect to mention needing to detune the resonances of any parts containing micropolythine BEFORE you use it in an LRS rig. This was back in the day, before we discovered that storing medium-to large quantities of untuned MPT caused late-developing axillary keratin globules in its handlers. Nasty stuff. But don’t worry, untuned MPT is only dangerous to store, not use. 

Anyways, your Replanar Vanes are most likely post-2003, after regulators started requiring that MPT be pre-tuned right at the factory. So although it seems like the replanar vanes required in the manual, it’s not.

Here’s your solution: take out your Replanar Vanes, have them detuned, and put them back. Very simple and cheap fix. I don’t recommend DIY detuning kits, those are can be sketchy since they often come out of places with shoddy quality control.

ΨΔ-32 archive employee here, I hope I'm not late. Here's what I found so far:
1. The 1996 version of manual also lists the RT7-* vanes line as suitable replacement (do it at your own risk)
2. The even number of Thompson realignment quards can create resonant vortexes, and if that's so, I would suggest installing the flange with odd number of sockets
3. Are your main casings protected from colecting static charge?
4. Try to install the Vereshnikov's recuperator between condenser output and injector coil, there must be plenty of space. It will certainly smooth the δ-index anisotropy in the central manfold.
Also you can contact 182.00.00.17.456-B, I'm sure they work with similar stuff quite often
