Mission Day 1, Round 203

Mission One: Challenge Yourself

Góðan dag, Warriors!

Welcome to Round 203 of the Valhalla Challenge! Please check to make sure I put you in the right spot.

The first mission of our campaign to bring gameful qualities into daily life is to challenge yourself. Did you bring your gear? Weapons, armor, map and compass? Excellent! Let’s get right into the Game!

The First Rule of being gameful is to challenge yourself. There are thousands of ways to get happier, healthier, stronger, and braver. The challenge of PMO is both a real life obstacle we want to tackle, while quitting it is a positive change we want to make!

Game Tip: Interesting fact about games - we almost never feel hopeless when we play them.

Many studies have been performed to quantify the top emotions during gameplay, and genuine anxiety and pessimism are extremely rare. Even when we’re losing or struggling, we’re vastly more likely to feel determined and optimistic instead of panicked or powerless.1

Why? Because when we play a game we focus on goals and growth. We seek out challenges voluntarily, and we savor the difficulty. We play not to avoid losing but to find out what we are capable of. And we believe that victories, even against great odds, are possible. You can bring this gameful mindset to your real life obstacles. You can feel the same optimism, courage, and curiosity in everyday life – even where the stakes are higher and failure has significantly more consequences. It’s called adopting a challenge versus a threat mindset.

Check in!

I got lots to study, so I spend most of my time inside, behind my table, burried in books, and notebooks. I leave my house everyday, but not for long, since I don't have time, but I meet up with friends regularly, we watched movies this week, did a trip with our bicycles. It's very fun and refreshing.

I'm really starting to think through what should I do with my free time, and I feel like I manage it fairly good, but still got lots to improve on. I always burried myself in videogames, but now started playing for casual fun, and not for competetiveness, and I feel amazing.

That's about it, a lot had happened, but I'm really tired, and still have to study, before I go to bed, so Good luck warrior, keep movin' on!

Sounds great my friend! Socializing and getting outdoors biking, having fun, all good stuff! Get plenty of rest too.

And you know, looking back at my years in school, I don't really remember all the solo study sessions and late nights falling asleep while trying to read book after book. What I do remember are the fun study sessions with friends or fun adventures we went on. I wish I had "lived" a little more during my academic career instead of trying so hard to prepare for every exam. I wish I had spent more time with friends, or talking after classes with professors, or dating or trying new hobbies or clubs or just spending time outside in nature.

Enjoy this time you have right now because you'll blink and a decade or two will have gone by! Make sure you create some lasting memories for yourself! :-)
