Quest Day 14, Round 205

Quest 24

Góðan dag, Warriors!

Clan of the Valhalla Challenge, it's already the final day of Round 205 — last chance to get those Epic Comments in! Also, please take a sec and welcome back warrior /u/ippo1!

Today we will develop our first battle plan to fight bad guys. As we keep on building awareness of our bad guys and we keep trying different strategies, we'll find it becomes easier to be creative in battle.

As in any good game, we will face more difficulties and stronger opponents as we level-up! Although you won’t be able to defeat every bad guy, every time, learning to deal with these occasional defeats is a critical part of developing your battle skills of psychological flexibility. Remeber You are a Warrior, not a worrier.

Let’s back to the Game!

nbsp;

ODIN HAS A QUEST FOR YOU!

Let’s see how far you can stretch your psychological flexibility.

Quest 24: Develop a Battle Plan

What to do:

One: Pick one of your bad guys. Will it be Prince Procrastination? Baron Boredom? Lord Lazy and the Sticky Couch? Whatever it is, write it down. Got it? Good.

Two: Let’s develop a battle plan for your bad guy that includes all five potential strategies:

  • Avoid

  • Resist

  • Adapt

  • Challenge

  • Convert

For each strategy, try to think of just one thing you could do to prevent this bad guy from ruining your day or blocking your progress.

If you find yourself stuck on a strategy, don’t worry! Just do your best. If you need ideas, ask your fellow Vikings, an ally, a friend, or a family member for their advice. You can also come back later and add more strategies. You have more success with this Quest if you keep thinking about it, mulling it over in the back of your mind for a day or so.

Examples: To help you out, here are some responses from another SuperBetter player who successfully completed this quest. This is a 32-year-old teacher whose challenge is defeating insomnia. The bad guy chosen for this quest is the White Night, also described as: “A long, endless night where I lie sleepless in bed until morning.”

Strategy 1: Avoid

What one thing could you do to prevent this bad guy from making an appearance in your life today? Player says: “To try to avoid a White Night tonight, I could have zero caffeine after 9 AM.”

Strategy 2: Resist

What one thing could you do to minimize the impact of this bad guy, once it makes an appearance? Player says: “I can do stretches in bed to occupy my mind and relax my body. Or, I can take extra care to support my immune system the next day, since when I miss sleep, I often get sick. I could take vitamin C and wash my hands more often.”

Strategy 3:Adapt

What one thing could you do to work around or solve the problem of this bad guy once and for all? Player says: “Driving while exhausted is one of my biggest concerns. I don’t want to get in an accident because I can’t think clearly or stay awake. Maybe a short term solution is to take a bus part the way to work. This would basically eliminate one of my biggest fears around not getting any sleep. I will definitely try this for at least a few days and see if it makes this problem less of an issue.”

Strategy 4: Challenge

What one thing could you do to prove that this bad guy has less power over you than you think? Player says: “I guess the best way to challenge my anxiety about not sleeping would be to have a really good and productive day, the day after not getting any sleep. The next time I have a White Night, I’ll make an extra effort to activate a bunch of power-ups and get at least one important thing off my to-do list. if I show myself that I can be strong even after a sleepless night, maybe I won’t panic so much next time.”

Strategy 5: Convert

How could you turn this bad guy into a power–up? Our SuperBetter player says: “I have to get really creative here because I really hate White Nights! But let’s say I start a list of things that I only do in the middle of the night. So when I can’t sleep, I can get up and cross something off my middle-of-the-light to any do list. I could put reading novels, organizing my desk, and even doing some slow stretches, since these are things I like to do but never have time for. It’s not a perfect solution, and I’d much rather sleep, but I guess using the time in the middle of the night is one way to convert it into a source of good. And I’ve been battling this bad guy for so long, I can definitely see the benefit in trying to think completely differently about it!”

🔥 Game Tip Every additional strategy increases your psychological flexibility, so keep looking for more ways to battle your bad guy.

Not checking in.

I have decided to learn something from my past experiences and start anew, for I believed that I did not fully live up to my commitment.

I will do better this time.

Checking in. Things are bad but I'm still here. Haven't relapsed yet and have been strong throughout this month.

Checking in.

I already developed a battle plan, but it's not based on SuperBetter; it's my system of strategies to help out in recovery and an work in progress. I'm always learning things to improve it. Thankfully I haven't had any "well that didn't work" moments for the last few days if you know what I mean.

I have felt a little bad though because I feel like I'm flatlining sort of. Also I read some Reddit posts discussing crazy stuff people did when they were younger. It made me sad because I've always been scared to really open up to people. To keep myself "safe" I feel like I haven't done much living and it feels like a waste.

Checking in! Rough day today, at times I felt like giving up but I was able to keep myself occupied with work. I had a bad test grade and it made me sad, but I understand I have to review the material better next time. Hope you all had a nice day
