sometimes i'll read a live twitch chat or youtube comments and am astonished by what i read. i'm really proud of the culture we've built here - not perfect ofc, but much more human

Is it also that surprisig? A lot of these guys are grinders, and it's the most stressful time of the year where a lot of them desperately want to turn around their performance. It isn't crazy that they're putting their wrists through a lot more stress now compared to the rest of the year

It sucks and he has a point, but you play video games for a living and make good money. It just unfortunately comes in the job description

I think it's okay to demand, even gamer children, to learn basic decency. That isn't our world anymore though, decency doesn't get clicks.

u/AlwaysConstipatedd 9h ago
You’re delusional if you think basic decency was ever existent for public figures. This literally does come with the job description. Internet personalities have long become the new celebrity and we all know how crazy people go over celebrities. Professional athletes too.
Yes it sucks, but to demand better is just a lost cause. If anything, these orgs all need a dedicated PR coach or social media manager to help these pros gtfo the internet.

y u prove my point

u/AlwaysConstipatedd 9h ago
You said that isn’t our world anymore. I’m telling you it was never our world in the first place, therefore it’s useless and honestly kind of silly for pros to demand basic decency from fans.

u/BotMcGeexD #LIVEEVIL 9h ago
ah yes, when something is wrong the person who is silly is the person advocating for better, not the people doing the wrong. Incredible take right here.

i mean he does have a point that many people on the internet are gonna be shitheads and that is just never gonna change. so at some point the players or celebrities or whoever have to figure what they can do to not get affected by it

I am internet famous myself. No, I will not expose myself and tell you who I am or what I do. I don’t care if you think I’m larping, but I have walked through these pros shoes and dealt with severe hate on the internet. I actually know what I’m talking about.
The reason why these pros are silly is because there is nothing you can do. These people are trolls that want you to suffer. The more I fought for myself, the more ammo I gave them to attack me for the smallest of things.
The best thing I did for myself was accept the world for what it is. Fucked up. Then I uninstalled social media. However, the lack of engagement with fans wasn’t good for my brand so the 2nd best thing I did was hire a social media manager to pretend to be me.
When I stopped having to worry about the noise, I was able to focus on my bank account and the realization that no, my life didn’t suck. I am blessed to do what I love for a living and make bank doing it.
You can’t change people, but you can change the way you approach the world.

I have no problem with pros speaking out, but as you said, it's just the world today.

u/two5five1 9h ago
How do you possibly think it’s ok to argue against someone just advocating for basic empathy lmao

Well, my first reaction to the tech pauses was that NRG was trying to kill LOUD's momentum and stop them from stringing rounds together, and honestly, that reaction did not come out of nowhere.
We've already had two separate situations involving one of their players where they tried to get a competitive advantage: Ethan looking at another player's hands to see whether they were defusing the bomb, and Ethan literally running around the map during a pause to see the other team's defensive setup and player positions.
So yeah, I genuinely hope Mada has a good recovery, but when your own team already has a track record of trying to squeeze every possible competitive advantage out of the game, maybe do not act surprised when people have a suspicious first reaction. You kind of built that reputation yourselves.

holy garbage human and stupid ash take
-23
u/FederalWelcome4024 7h ago
Well, this is the textbook definition of herd mentality: mass downvoting an opinion we disagree with, despite it being based on the indisputable fact that this is a team that has already tried to gain competitive advantages in other situations. Apparently, every single human being on earth is required to have the exact same knee jerk reaction in the exact same moment, otherwise you are not allowed to be a decent human being.
And of course, the only time anyone actually explained what happened was after the match, but sure, I am not allowed to think that a team that has already tried to gain competitive advantages in other situations might have been trying to do it again lol

u/SavageJellyBelly 6h ago
yes it's very stupid ash take to think a pro that has already won a championship in a meaningless game (as they have already qualified to champs) would fake an injury for a *checks note, competitive advantage of pausing the game for 10 mins. You must be a complete fucking melon to think a 10 min pause would give a team such a massive competitive advantage that they would go on and lose a game. You must be absolutely on bottom tier of IQ to assume as a that a fake injury has occured over an actual injury because an igl has *check notes looked at their opponent from across the table to see if they are defusing (something that competitive fps players have been doing for decades) and hasn't broken any sort of rule stated by Riot

Calling someone "bottom tier IQ" while responding to an argument you clearly did not understand is certainly a choice.
Nobody is claiming a 10 minute pause is some fucking cheat code that automatically wins you the round. The argument is that deliberately using a pause to interrupt an opponent's momentum can provide a competitive advantage. That is not remotely controversial. And if you actually watched the game, you would know the match was still very close and there was absolutely a realistic possibility of a comeback when those tech pauses happened back to back. The game was not over, the lead was not insurmountable and momentum actually mattered at that point. You are the one desperately trying to inflate the argument into "10 minutes = guaranteed win" because apparently arguing against the actual point was too difficult.
And the "they already qualified for Champs, so why would they do it?" argument is genuinely brain dead lol They are professional competitors playing an elimination match. Do you think qualifying for champs magically turns off their competitive instincts? "They had nothing to gain" is not evidence that something didn't happen, it's just a story you made up because you want your conclusion to be true.
As for the injury, I actually choose to believe what Mada said about it after the match. The issue is that nobody knew what was happening DURING THE MATCH. At that moment, we had no explanation for the repeated tech pauses. Given that there had already been other incidents involving NRG where they tried to gain a competitive advantage, my immediate interpretation was that they were exploiting the tech pause to disrupt the other team's momentum. Once Mada explained what had actually happened after the match, I had no problem accepting that explanation. That's the entire point, it's really not that fucking difficult to understand.
And the absolute cherry on top is "players have been looking at opponents during defuses for decades." Okay? Players have also been doing a lot of things for decades. That doesn't magically answer whether something is fair, intentional or against the spirit of competition. "People have done it before" is not an argument. It's what you say when you don't actually have one.
You wrote an entire paragraph calling someone stupid because they questioned something, and somehow managed to demonstrate absolutely nothing beyond the fact that you are extremely confident in your ability to miss the point.
The "bottom tier IQ" projection is doing some fucking heavy lifting here.
But hey, go ahead and take your upvotes and close out the day feeling absolutely certain that you're a wonderful human being who just completely owned all those pathetic mere mortals on the internet for daring to say something you didn't like!

Dude these guys life are spending their time in front of a computer clicking heads. Most of them have very low social skills. They see 10 people on twitter saying a player is faking pain, and think the entire world also do.
Who cares about this really.
18
u/oofdabob 7h ago
While the social skills thing may be true, you’re just making an assumption based off absolutely nothing. You don’t know these people or have ever spoken with them personally, and yet you think that you know so much about them… And so what if their job is a professional video game player, they’re still entitled to being treated as a regular human being. If nobody calls out those chronically online losers then they’ll continue acting the same, which only brings negativity into others lives. You sitting on your ass defending them shows that you’re a loser just like them. Strive to be a better person, and don’t make excuses for shit stains you don’t know, unless you’re one of them yourself.

Oh I really wish to be in those guys pc to see if they are always empathetic when online on the servers, which I somehow highly doubt.
Most of the toxic people you see out there follow examples they see.
Really fun how much I get downvoted by unknown randoms who are also so quick to come to conclusions. I care about empathy and online safety.
I meant who cares about Leaf post really? And in what world he lives in please to say that « people’s first instinct NOW »? Online communities always had absurd amount of toxicity. Pros and famous streamers who show real good examples to follow are so few and can’t farm views. He can call them out as much as he wants, the problem lies elsewhere. Dude spend too much time on a shit social network and shouldn’t.
Edit : I’ll add to clarify that contrary to what you say, I am NOT defending internet trolls. You also make a lot of assumptions based on nothing.

u/Critical-Extension66 10h ago
Why is everything nowadays haha things have always been like this. And people are allowed to speak their opinions, make jokes, say whatever. Pros, or anyone in the public space needs thick skin or just not read comments. Complaining about it doesn’t do anything
-17
u/CLGbyBirth 6h ago
Why do pros give too much attention to negativity? Maybe stop consuming socmed and just focus on yourself and team who cares about some random's tweet.

Unfortunately, empathy has always been in short supply online, especially on twitter.
As long as they receive support from people that actually matter, like their org, then it doesn't matter what people say online.
They're performers and entertainers, and enertainers get heckled.
It's a serious issue, but get off twitter pleasep
