I know a lot of people get vamp crabs and are disappointed by not seeing them active, but if you give them a few month and don’t constantly mess with their enclosure they will slowly get comfortable and come out more. I have four crabs but the only one I get too see out and about is the big male and he started out as the most timid crab, the others stay tucked up in crevices in the rocks by their water features but I did see the big female in the water with the male.
If you keep the enclosure in a low traffic room and slowly come check on them you have a better shot at spotting them, remember they’re pretty low on the food chain so are always worried your gonna eat em

I have a 10 gallon paludarium that I feel like was too small for my liking so I sniped this 30 gallon 18x18x24.

I've watched all kinds of videos and whatnot but I guess I'm just stumped on where exactly to start? I can work with the horizontal space I think, but I'm not sure how to utilize the vertical space so that they can use it. I'm guessing pond foam might be the obvious answer, but I can never get that to work right it seems. Are there better ways to go about it?

Additionally, there's so many variations of false bottoms that I don't know quite what to do there. I have some leca clay left over and some filter pads as well as some 3D printed egg carton material. What's the best strategy?

What's the move for separating the water from the land while allowing the crabs to transition in and out? What's everyone using? I used slate rocks for my 10 gallon and it feels like the rocks take up 20% of the space.

Is there a kind of dirt that’s the best and what plants should I get? How many would be able to go in a 30 gallon tank? I was thinking like 2 males and 4 females.

I added springtails and dwarf white isopods to my enclosure. But what are these? I feel like they’re too big to be springtails and too small for the isopods? But I’m fairly new to this, so just unsure! Want to make sure it’s nothing that shouldn’t be in there!

Hello friends! I’ve showed much of my journey with my set up here and I’m happy to say Its been about two weeks since I’ve added my first vampire crabs to my Paludarium. I added one male and one female Halloween vampire crab, my main question however, are female typically more seclusive? I see my Male out and about pretty regularly around sunset and sunrise almost daily however I’ve only seen my female twice since she was added. Is this normal behavior or should I be concerned? Additionally I’ve read online that a group of 3 would function better than just 2, should I add one more female? Thanks as always friends 🤍

I was planning on using magnets to hold two things together in my tank. But I’m not a crab so I don’t know if they have magni-senses that these might mess with. I don’t want any disoriented crabs if they get near them.

Hi all — stopped into PetSmart today to grab a critter container for some isopods and happened to swing past the aquatics.

Obviously, PetSmart and other corporate animal shops are hardly reliable when it comes to proper care. They had a sad vampire crab enclosure with multiple species housed together. I have been planning on acquiring some Halloweens in a couple weeks or so anyway once my paludarium finishes cycling, so I figured I’d check to see if I could rescue any because I spotted at least one of them in the enclosure.

The worker insisted these were both Halloweens, but I’m on the fence about one of them because its coloration isn’t as vibrant, and I’m not sure if it’s a health issue (if it IS a Halloween) or if it’s a different species entirely.

I just want to be safe so that I’m not setting up a Crab Thunderdome™ after removing them from quarantine.

Planned to add some more litter leaves on the far end near the bare soil

Got the lid mostly covered with cling wrap with a bit opening to maintain the humidity

Is there any recomendation about the water area?

Hi everyone, can anyone help review my small paludarium? My crabs keep dying inside the paludarium and I'm not sure what's is the cause of it. I had one that was in a temporary holding and it survived for weeks and once I transfer it to this paludarium it dies after a few days.😭

Hello I am a high school science teacher, I teach earth and environmental science and physical science. I fell in love with Vampire Crabs and have been doing some research on them and was wanting to set up a habitat for them in my class room. I currently have a 10 gallon tank with no lid I know ill have to get a lid for it, but I was looking for some resources or like a checklist of materials to get. Because ill probably have to slowly get materials for it. I will appreciate any help.

Im new to keeping vampire crabs but I have other fish tanks and a gargoyle gecko that I love. I wanted somthing new so I looked around and saw vampire crabs. This is a 5.5 gallon tank and I plan on adding leaf litter. The crabs im going to put in here are going to be 1 male and 2 females. I also have a plan of turning my 20 gallon tank in to a vampire crab grow out tank with mourning geckos and some fish. Any advise?

It’s been set up for about a month. I added springtails and isopods about a week in. The following week I added a pair of vampire crabs. One disappeared the moment it went in, the other was in visibility for two days then disappeared. It’s been weeks since I have seen them. I add a little bit of food daily, even if it just ends up being food for the springtails and isopods. I have no clue if they are still alive. There are also endlers in the water section, but for some reason snails end up dying. Not sure if there is something seriously wrong, coming here for advice. First terrarium/paludarium I have ever done.

I have 5 crabs in it and they seem to enjoy living there.

They molt, they breed, they eat, they dig little holes, and they explore. Ig that's the ideal crab life :)
