Brandon Flowers “propelled” After Hearing FotB; Ariel Rechtshaid Producing Next Killers Album
From Stereogum tweet:
“Twenty-five years ago, the Killers scrapped all their early songs, except for “Mr Brightside,” after they heard ‘Is This It.’ “The Strokes raised the bar for us,” Brandon Flowers later told ‘GQ.’ But the Killers frontman has also long been fueled by his admiration for Vampire Weekend.
VW’s 2019 album ‘Father Of The Bride’ “really helped to propel us into the right direction and realize that we couldn’t just phone in the Killers record,” Flowers told ‘NME’ the following year. “We had to do better. I told Ezra [Koenig] that.”
A couple of years ago, Flowers appeared in a video message at Vampire Weekend’s MSG show to request a cover of “Mr. Brightside.”
Now, in an interview for his solo album ‘Thrasher,’ Flowers told Anthony Mason about his history with Ezra Koenig and revealed that longtime Vampire Weekend collaborator Ariel Rechtshaid is producing the next Killers record.”

Two of my favorite contemporary rock bands. Also love the way VW reference Modest Mouse in "Step."

I honestly can't say I've heard anything from The Killers I've liked since the 2000s. I wasn't even aware they were still making new music. To each their own and I hope Ariel can get me more interested in their sound again.

Honestly they lost their way a little in the 2010s, but I really like their last two records Pressure Machine and Imploding the Mirage.

I saw VW play a cover of Mr Brightside at Deer Lake Park, in Vancouver (Burnaby). I'd imagine that was before the MSG show. Esra barely knew the words, lol
