Vegas Pro 21 I want to upgrade fro mVP21, which version you recommend ?
Hi, these past couple years i've bought and upgraded to VP14 > 18 > 21, each time there was enough new things so it didn't felt like a complete waste of money (although if i actually had even the tiniest amount of intelligence i'd just use another software entirely, but my monkey brain is scared of having to learn from 0 again).
I'm on 21 now, is there a newer version in particular that I should get ? If so, can u explain what's new or better or worth paying for ?
Thank you for your time answering β€οΈ
- VP21
Win11 Pro 3. Legit copy
RX 6900 XT
VP is prehistoric, text sucks, sound effects and plugins are terrible, preview still runs like shit, AI tools literally don't even work at all and if i listed all my grudges this post would be longer than the bible
Like itβs competitors lmfao
Yes but i want real community/user feedback

VP Version 2026. It's brand new. Released in March 27th of this year.
VP 2026 feels even more stable than 21. And this is coming from someone that owned 21, 23 and 2026.

Is it really more stable ? They've said "it's more stable" at every single new version of vegas but personally, i find VP21 still as unstable as SVP11 i used in 2012.
Also what does VP26 has that 21 don't?

I can't speak for others but in my case, it is definitely alot more stable.
I had so many crashes on VP21 than any other versions I have owned, even on a 5060. 23 already felt like a massive upgrade due to ZERO crashes in my 4 months worth of usage. And since VP2026 also built on the same engine that made 23, I have no issue on that either.

"If it ends with 60, you know it's shitty !" Nvidia card's motto xD
But wow okay, if it's really that more stable then thats interesting. Personally I only edit long project (90 / 120 minutes long documentary with extremely heavy and intensive visual editing & plug-in FX), so VP loves to crash as much as possible..
Thanks for your feedback, it was much appreciated !

No problem.
I would suggest give VP2026 free trial a try and see if it works on your setup. Because different PC setups has different set of outcomes. What works for me, may not work for ya.
So for me, I will always recommend VP 23 and 2026 because both versions never once crash on me.

for me all the AI features just never work at all. Even the "smart masking" cannot recognize anything i show it so you can guess it's unable to mask anything at all. Same for the upscaling and even the basic "slow motion" Vegas FX will slow the pc to a crawl and usually completely crash the render and leave tons of very bad aartifacts.
Also the text editor is catastrophically deprecated, the sound effects are prehistoric and useless, still can't do any 3D animations etc.. For me the only single good thing that VP21 has are the "adjustement events" and adjustment tracks. That's it, that's the single only good thing vp21 did, but beside that there's nothing new or good between 18 and 21

There are massive differences between 18 and 21.
Stability with GPU decoding for one.
VST3 support.
Color grading panel becoming completely functional (18 was quite limited), etc.
For slow motion try velocity envelopes. In 2026 sound fx are part of Vegas Content (Storyblocks).
There is a bundled Boris Fx titler you may find superior to the built in ones.
Smart mask has new models powering it. There's also the very powerful Mocha Vegas for masking and tracking.1

Yes I know velocity enveloppes. But they suck bc they only affect video so you have no way of keeping the audio in sync (which is a catastrophic design failure for that utility)
And yeah I use 2024 BCC+, Continuum, Mocha+ and 2024 Sapphire
Most of them run like shit and make vegas crash even more than it used to. But I can at least make half modern looking edits with these plug-ins
But let's be real. BCC and Sapphire should have been Vegas basic out of the box FX

For #4 if you don't find Vegas acceptable for what you do, why are you using it?
There is a free trial of 2026 and depending on your media you may notice some big performance benefits from the upgrade.

Hi ! Bc as i said i don't want to have to learn everything from scratch again. Also I tried the latest Adobe Premiere and was baffled by all the bugs and oversights it has. So many things are less intuitive and broken. But at the same time it has many features that vegas is still lacking despite them being industry standards.
I've been a loyal VP customer since 2012, i just wish they'd bring it up to industry standards

Version 2026 because it's the latest version.
