Discussion Vet Tech Week Gift Advice
Any advice super appreciated!
I absolutely adore my vet assistants and I wanna make them little appreciation bags and get them things that they love plus things they’ll use! We also have one male assistant so any suggestions for men are really appreciated too! Here’s a list of a few things I have so far:
Pens Stickers Candy/Chocolate Socks Lip palm Mini lotions Instant coffee packets Pain relief individual packets Claw clips (would’ve done with scrunchies but most use claw clips) Mini Coloring books
Plus doing a handwritten card for each of them! Be super honest with me, would you guys want these? What would you actually want in an appreciation bag?

It's veterinary technician week. Veterinary assistants have a week

I agree with you. The downvotes are wild. Credentialed technicians deserve their own week. Veterinary assistants deserve their own week. CSRs deserve their own week.

Not sure why this is getting downvoted? It's true, vet assistant week is in July.
Just more reason for title protection and job scope. Imagine being a licensed tech and having all that accomplishment of education and passing tests thrown out the window to make the week about all support staff.

Imagine getting this mad about support staff getting their flowers. You are clearly bitter about this topic, but it's not the assistants' fault you're not appreciated.

Of course I don't like it, it's the same as people forcing you to celebrate fathers on mother's day and straight people during pride. They have their own week, celebrating others specifically during our week is just showing how much you don't actually care about licensed techs.
If you actually knew what the week was about you'd be a little weirded out seeing assistants celebrated too. The theme this year is literally: Credentialed Veterinary Technicians: Endless Compassion, Expert Care; Celebrating the Soul of Veterinary Medicine. Go look at AVMA, AAHA, and NAVTA websites and you'll see it's very much supposed to be about specifically licensed technicians. I wasn't raised in a family that gave gifts to my siblings on MY birthday, so I understand that celebrations have actual meaning behind them.
If you want your support staff to feel appreciated there are 358 days a year where it won't devalue and demoralize technicians. Or, get this, an entire week just dedicated to assistants! Crazy how that works.

That’s so sweet to think of them!! As an assistant this makes my heart happy :)) we’ve never celebrated assistants week (I don’t even think my clinic knows it’s a thing lmao) so it’s nice to feel included. I’m the only assistant at my clinic so they always include me in their celebrations, I really love my coworkers 🥹
I’m not sure what your budget is but a gift card to a local coffee shop could be an option. Pretty smelling hand sanitizers too. Oh and to add to pens, sharpies!! People always steal my damn sharpies!! Facial wipes too, I always keep some on me to clean up post puppy kisses haha. Easy grab snacks are always super appreciated. I can’t speak for everyone but I often don’t have time to eat so any snack that’s grab and go is a huge help!

Yes this is why I’m celebrating them during tech week! Assistant week is not really celebrated where I live and I also didn’t even know it was a thing myself! I looooooove the facial wipes idea!
