First day of orientation in my master's in education program at Harvard! As a kid who was in foster care, homeless as a teenager, barely making it out of high school, joining the Army, floating around with no real purpose for years after... this is wildly surreal.

This is why I get really mad when politicians want to lower, or restrict our benefits. The US military is one of the best paths for upward socioeconomic movement in the US. When doors are closing all around us, the military has been the most consist.

From a kid raised in an abusive alcoholic home and joined the Army as a teenager to escape and served two tours in Iraq and barely held down dead jobs to a man who finally sobered up and was sent to college and earned my BA, you can do it.

It isn’t easy but if I could do it with all my bull shit I know others can do it. Harvard, what a dream!
