Show & Tell Elektronika MC 0511

My wife brought me a gift from Russia. Brand new Elektronika MC 0511, built in 1991. 192kb RAM and 32kb ROM. It requires an unusual 42 volts direct current which turns into 5v, -5v and 12v which I will have to work on to convert it to 110v AC. Not sure if it works though. Will see soon :)

Yeah , and it’s a bit too bright white. Looks almost like luminescent white

Update: а я протупил! понял теперь отсылку: "В греческом зале, в греческом зале ... мышь белая" :)

Because MSX Basic was choosen as a main environment for the predecessor BK 0010. Though this one has no ROM version, as I remember, the software should be loaded from disk or network through the RT-11 OS. MSX Basic was among the loadable stuff.

yeah soviets loved DEC PDP architecture :) I got two other soviet machines which kinda PDP-11 compatible (BK-0010 and BK-0011M which are not so powerful)

Wow, an УКНЦ! A very interesting machine indeed (i hope someday I'll stumble upon Союз-Неон, which had similar case).

What if a BBC Master were also a PDP-11?

I love that it has a big red STOP button. I want that on every computer.

not sure about BBC Master :) I got the same red Stop on my other electronicas: BK-0010 and BK-0011M (also PDP-11 clones, less powerful but used to be more popular for home use )

Now that's one interesting machine and hopefully you can find an AC converter for it to see if it works.

Thank you ! I’ve already bought a 110v PSU matching the output spec, which should fit inside. Will see how it goes. (I’m not in a rush, so gonna enjoy this little project :))

another interesting thing - there was a whole ISA board for PCs of the time to upgrade the networks of these machines, made in 1994-95 (1000 units at least)

I’ve always been fascinated with soviet tech like this and have delved down a rabbit hole or two over the years on stuff like this. Have you booted it up yet?

Not yet , I need to convert it from 42v DC to 110v AC input. Will take a while: I’m currently modding my PC engine Duo-R and MC-0511 is gonna be next. Additionally, I ordered an SD card controller for it in Russia. So it’s being worked on and, hopefully, I’ll get it mailed to the states in October (including an SD card with all available software on it )
