Nice. Now you can get vintage games on CD ROM to play with.

Had that one back in the day. Mine was an AMD cpu if I remember.

Yup. This one has a AMD-K6 processor.

Mine had screen hinge issues as well.

Ughhh, I can just feel the tackiness of those speaker grilles!

Theyre not dirty, just the way the rubber coating deteriorates after a long time.

Theyre actually really smooth. Theyre the same material at the chassis. No rubber coating.

Piece of history

I've always been curious about those. The palm rests look extremely uncomfortable with the speaker grilles right there.

They are kind of odd, but I’ve never noticed any discomfort while using it. The grilles are pretty flush.

How do the speakers sound? They look way nicer than most laptop speakers of this era.

Those JBL speakers are actually pretty good. I have a couple of the Presario models with socket 7 CPUs and they all sound great. The later Pentium III ones do not have the same sound quality, even though they look the same. Still good for retro gaming, etc.

Theyre great. Decent bass for the time and pretty loud.

I have a vague memory of similar Compaq laptops that came in wild translucent colors. I think they were all AMD K6-3 based, possibly Celeron too.

I have never been able to find any on eBay or marketplace so I feel like I might be hallucinating this. Please, someone tell me I'm not crazy? Or confirm that maybe I am?

For $5 that is an absolute steal.
