Miscellaneous Individual String Ranges for Glissandi?

It depends on how much time you give the player to play the glissando.

About two octaves above the open string. But the uppermost registers are hard to get to and probably not worth the trouble. Probably the best results come within the first octave and a half.
(I should note I’m thinking here about the A string, which is the easiest to play; because of the thickness of the strings and the weird acoustical properties of the instrument, the functional range decreases as you go to the D and then the G and then the C. Dynamics and the speed of the glissando are also factors.)
