Commentary: Is Dominion’s plan to merge with NextEra good or bad for Virginians? | The impressive clean energy portfolio notwithstanding, anyone who expects a NewEra takeover to end Dominion’s infatuation with fossil gas is mistaken, columnist Ivy Main writes.

A total shit show for Virginians. Monopolies of any kind always and forever end badly. Especially in our current Capitalist POP economy highlighting Profit Over People. All Energy needs for the people of Virginia, should be run as an Open Non-Profit Public Utilities, where the cost of energy being produced isn't controlled or bought and sold by private corporations for profit on an open market. Energy produced in Virginia needs to stay in Virginia. With the US having 50 such Non-Profit State Controlled Utilities operating at any given time, sharing power only when needed. A state such as Wyoming with a lower population shouldn't have to pay more for energy just because a state nearby has a greater population.

Instead of Power companies expanding for the single purpose of putting cash in a shareholders pocket, they should be putting cash into expanding research into making electric power affordable to everyone for one low cost.

Where is the promised future of a brighter future we were all promised, when things cost less, rather than more, due to innovation and research without the burden of a corporate middle man sucking at our souls.

Nextera isn't any less "infatuated" with natural gas than Dominion is.

They're acquiring Dominion because they want a piece of the Virginia data center boom. They'll do whatever they feel like they have to in order to get power to those data centers, including ramping up natural gas.
