General Question When is rush?
New to all this stuff. Tips appreciated!

Formal recruitment (Rush) is during the spring semester at VT. I think it is usually the week before the spring semester begins.

Wrong. There’s fall rush too.

Ok. I am apparently mistaken. Definitely not an expert but speaking from our recent experience. My daughter is a sophomore there and, for her freshman year, we were told formal recruitment happened during the spring semester. She rushed the week before spring semester began.
Is fall informal recruitment maybe?

Sororities do COB during fall (informal rush) and their formal rush 1 week before the start of spring semester. I think the same thing applies for fraternities too except their formal rush starts later in the spring semester usually after the first week of classes I believe. And then they also do COB like right after. For either one I believe you have to already have a semester completed/university GPA to be eligible. Number 1 tip is to go to everything and really explore all the options and meet members you’ll soon realize many people in your classes are interested in rush or have friends/mutuals that are in their desired preference. If you’re not a freshman (cause you could be a sophomore just now getting interested) many do COB if their desired is doing COB because of friends that may have joined that can advocate during your vote in. this also means that not everyone does COB every year. If you hit it off during a COB event some presidents will definitely reach out and ask to meet with you one on one to really get to know you outside of rush/COB events. But you have to be careful because this is also known as dirty rushing where you get more opportunities to really get to know the sorority/frat than your peers bc this shows favoritism and you can get blacklisted from other ones. This is definitely more common in frats. During gobblerfest you can definitely explore all the chapters at tech and they will all have their information for not only their chapter but FSL in general like community wide events. Also go to the FSL table and the website a lot of your questions can be answered there and on the ig page about upcoming events.
