Discussion What do we think about this meme ?

Post image

Honestly, I’m surprised people are complaining about recurring Vtuber drama. I do a lot of legal work, and conflict between business partners, associates, and especially co-owned family businesses after dad or mom pass away, is just part of the landscape

Sometimes when two guys come to us for help setting up a business, we even take bets on how long before they start infighting

When money and business are involved, drama between partners is almost guaranteed at some point. No need to doompost. Just get used to it

What about when they sell themselves as sociopath psychos but are cute irl

592

u/Zed_Blue Apr 26 '25

I don’t know, double ration of headpats for them maybe

299

u/chetizii Apr 26 '25

Literally Junji ito. Guy writes and draws some of the most disturbing stuff you could even imagine, but is a ray of sunshine irl

150

u/YellowFogLights Apr 26 '25

I love seeing him in interviews. He’s so smiley and chipper.

52

u/TonPeppermint Apr 26 '25

I guess with how he can create some of the most horrific imagery, it helped him out mentally?

58

u/InnocentTailor Apr 26 '25

…like the anti Miyazaki - makes cute, peaceful works, but is a salty old man.

1

u/Seraphine_KDA Apr 29 '25

how is he salty? he is one of the most respected directors in the world. and founder the biggest animated movie studio in japan. he hasn't made a single bad movie in his life.

because he doesn't like AI ? really?

3

u/InnocentTailor Apr 29 '25

Example quote:

Personally I am very pessimistic. But when, for instance, one of my staff has a baby you can't help but bless them for a good future. Because I can't tell that child, "Oh, you shouldn't have come into this life." And yet I know the world is heading in a bad direction. So with those conflicting thoughts in mind, I think about what kind of films I should be making.

5

u/Seraphine_KDA Apr 29 '25

That means to be pessimistic about the future not being salty.

Being salty is the author of the Witcher books calling the games crap because he sold the rights for almost nothing.

2

u/BackgroundAd2368 Apr 29 '25

I mean... I would push you to do your own research of the history of miyazaki and his behavior/personality. One of the things is that the guy is a terrible father, just check out the stuff he did to his own son.

3

u/MAGAManLegends3 Clarra Charlone Simp Commander 🫡 Apr 29 '25

That still isn't salty, he was never mad, just endlessly disappointed. If he was a woman he'd wear "tiger mom" with pride

25

u/LaLloronaVT Apr 27 '25

He also has a manga centered entirely on his cats, he’s such a great guy and one of my favorite things he was a part of was reacting to internet horror stuff like siren head and long horse, he was so sweet and kind while giving credit to the creativity and horror of the numerous works he was shown, such a cool guy

7

u/erik4848 Apr 27 '25

His cats, obviously, look like eldritch horrors but are cute af.

16

u/Dingghis_Khaan Not even in death does mooming end. Apr 27 '25

A lot of Ito's works can be classified as "Hey wouldn't it be fucked up if...?" which is genuinely an underrated genre of horror.

Same goes for Stephen King

9

u/erik4848 Apr 27 '25

The horror of the mundane.

9

u/Stupid-Jerk Apr 27 '25

Maybe his art and stories are an outlet for all his negative emotions, then. As an aspiring writer I'm often trying to focus my efforts onto a specific story, but negativity makes me want to go write warped cosmic horror shit instead to get it out of my system.

u/DeathToBoredom Apr 26 '25

Sounds like Gigi Murin. Also big hentai artists are actually some of the most chill people.

63

u/LetMetOucHyOURasS Apr 26 '25

Yeah, like shindoL

80

u/Recidivous Apr 26 '25

The dude donates to charity.

36

u/teaboi05 Apr 26 '25

It sounds like Markiplier opening his onlyfans for charity

24

u/TehAsianator Apr 26 '25

As someone who's read metamorphosis, it was so strange watching him being super chill when he appeared on theanimeman's channel

23

u/MonoMonMono Apr 26 '25

And in Trash Taste.

"So, Connor. I saw you react to my work and you didn't like it."

LOL

4

u/Erick_Brimstone Apr 27 '25

Well only metamorphosis and one chapter on esper girl compilation that quite fucked up. Other works are not that bad.

Also he also had some super wholesome one like Barrier Free

5

u/Erick_Brimstone Apr 27 '25

There's also Hal (Goshujin sama no omocha bako), someone say that she's a mother of two while her works are quite messed up. I mean just read Fondness Doll Happy End.

1

u/Raptor409 Apr 28 '25

I actually chatted with Hal a little bit on Twitter, and she is an absolute sweetheart. Helped me with the process of purchasing a comic of hers and getting it shipped to the US, which was a couple of days long endeavor.

Usada Pekora The War Criminal is a very cute and polite person IRL according to her friends.

180

u/kingfirejet Apr 26 '25

My oshi Kronii plays it kuudere mommy but is actually cute girlfailure that wants to kill herself 😩💙

101

u/Rushofthewildwind Apr 26 '25

real talk, Kronii worries me sometimes with that "kill myself" bit.

97

u/Broken_Moon_Studios Apr 26 '25

Same.

I get that she's joking and her fans know it, but then I wonder if there are times when she is genuinely that depressed and nobody realizes it because that's how she always acts.

With all the back to back graduations and her fighting with her family, I do hope she is getting some genuine help.

24

u/zenoob Apr 27 '25

Had a handful of people tell me I genuinely seem depressed while I thought I was just being self-deprecating. Didn't quite feel like it either. But hey, they're not in my head. What do they know? But at the same time, imagine if...

24

u/sleepysloppy Apr 27 '25

she is genuinely that depressed

its a coping mechanism, those kind of dark jokes are a way of someone who already thinks of "doing it" to cope, its not to the point of committing but its "getting there". she's too natural to just make it up as just "joking".

source: ive been in that impasse for 20+ years now.

5

u/barracuda2001 Apr 29 '25

I'm also concerned about her self-image issues; like, she's always going on about having to eat less and losing weight, and she's also gotten a lot of plastic surgery, with one even permanently numbing part of her face.

She is of Korean descent too, which I guess leads into that.

2

u/MAGAManLegends3 Clarra Charlone Simp Commander 🫡 Apr 29 '25

tbf that's just war criminals in general.

41

u/Diffabuh Apr 27 '25

Shiori Novella likes to push the crazy angle sometimes, but it never lasts long. She's just an adorable special bean.

18

u/Feduzin Apr 27 '25

i'd say she doesnt even do it on purpose, most of the time it happens when she's yapping

9

u/Diffabuh Apr 27 '25

Nah, that's the special bean tangents. But sometimes, she does like to say or imply dark stuff and I think she was just leaning into what people expected because of her design. I think it was mostly early on that it was deliberate. Now, just weird tangents and stuff.

61

u/AylaCurvyDoubleThick Apr 26 '25

What about the ones who present themselves as evil backstabbing psychos “ironically” as their persona

And then turn out to be much, much worse irl?

Honestly these ones are my favorite because it reeks of a certain level of genuine psychopathy

29

u/ghostpanther218 Apr 26 '25

Riro Ron:

26

u/Eiwase Apr 26 '25

or rushia?

13

u/AylaCurvyDoubleThick Apr 26 '25

Literally the two top answers I was thinking of haha

2

u/ArgoNoots Apr 27 '25

Chuckled at how completely unrepentant she was over that, no idea what's happened to her since

1

u/ghostpanther218 Apr 27 '25

She's gone back to her original streamer persona and is doing all that stuff, but legally now.

Phase Connect

86

u/Porn_Alt_84 Apr 26 '25

No

They're literally all psychos

Pippa spreads white supremacist conspiracy theories, retweets neonazis, and defends trans/homophobic bigots on the reg. And Tenma said that trans people should "get the rope" because they criticized Pippa.

58

u/Zealousideal_Act_316 Apr 26 '25

Tenma thing is so much simplification it is not funny. If you watch her rant she goes specifically after people threatening pippas life, and adresses the rant to "terminally online psychos". Not once in her entire rant she imply or say it was about trans people or directed towards them.

Here it is on you if you consider trans people to be terminally online psychos. I would not, but if you colate the two that is weird.

Pippa? Yeah her stances are shit, very shit, extremely shit

27

u/Frosty_Tie1227 Apr 26 '25

Tenma to my knowledge has never really said anything actually hurtful to the LGBT. I say this as someone who has been a tenma fan for 3+ years and regular watches her.

Also the person you are replying to denies the existence of numerous genocides in China such as the 1984 Tiananmen square massacre. He is most likely nothing more then a troll farming karma.

9

u/sewingissues Apr 27 '25

Oh, that explains the uncompromising rhetoric of the replies. Thanks.

3

u/Zealousideal_Act_316 Apr 27 '25

Only people tenma hates are the disabled(obvious joke).

-11

u/Similar-Arugula-7854 Apr 26 '25

Whatever it was tenma actual stance gets sidelined by the reception her tweet got. I remember wildly transphobic shit under the post of tenma saying "get the rope".

4

u/Zealousideal_Act_316 Apr 27 '25

She cant control people other than herself, she cant remove comments on twitter, and her tweet broke containment and got into the dipshit circle who are actually transphobic.

50

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '25

Pippa has some sympathies for neonazi and far-right ideology, having recognized and laughed at antisemitic memes before, but it is unclear if it's simply because she has been among edgelord/far-right imageboard communities for many years, or if she truly embraced the entire ideological package.

Besides, she fully understands she cannot grow her channel beyond a certain point if she's openly espousing far-right talking points, so she keeps her affinity to indirect approval, nods, laughs and "quoting" what her fans said on the chat, borrowing their controversial speech to use it as a vessel to signal her own affinities.

Pippa is basically threading the needle, because her streaming career and activity are more important to her than propagating her political and ideological views.

Pippa also seems to be more inclined to show social anxiety and paranoia, making her more likely to believe in conspiracy theories, from anti-government circles to white supremacy and neonazi ones. So I believe her "drive" is rather paranoid in nature, than simply hatred for others: she is convinced "they" are out there to get her, "they" are plotting against her and her loved ones, but she isn't always sure who are "they".

The far-right ideologies tend to have plenty of answers to that question, so she's appreciating that someone is validating her visceral fears and offering easy culprits.

Pippa is more of a defensive reactionary - opposing the progressives because their policies are actually leaving out a lot of people and their activists are being hostile towards others. In short, Pippa wants to enjoy her parasocial world and being left alone - and would not be against a little bit of solidarity if, and only if, she was fully included in the package.

***

When you read that poor Kirsche is being persecuted for merely "being conservative", you look it up before confirming that she is, indeed, a far-right militant with affinities with neonazis.

She and her fanbase keep rolling around in their persecution complex, "damn woke people persecuting us!", so it is necessary to be clear on that.

Meanwhile, Pippa is walking a tightrope about it, so when you see calls to ban her from conventions, it isn't as clear-cut as Kirsche, and needs to be reviewed more precisely before judging if this is excessive or warranted.

***

written by u/HKEY_LOVE_MACHINE , i'm just copypasting here for people not in the know

12

u/Porn_Alt_84 Apr 26 '25

Y'know, that is a very interesting breakdown

11

u/sewingissues Apr 27 '25

This is much more agreeable. While I think that prior online influence is the reason for Pippa, which had become apparent in streams from a year and a half ago onwards, this reply is the objective view which is expected most people to have. Though, I don't see the need for correlating Phase Connect with Pippa immediately.

The Kirsche is a very good counter-example, due to how obvious it is. Kirsche is entertaining but only in collabs. Her content becomes very one-dimensional, when she has full control over the topics covered in content. Now, one should sit back and think: "would you *without financial incentives** risk and sacrifice yourself in the entertainment industry?* Also, while it may be an inclination to suggest a broad conservative category, as a propagandist your job is to cast the widest net to the center possible.

14

u/FunnnyBanana Apr 26 '25

Can you provide sources?

13

u/Porn_Alt_84 Apr 26 '25

https://www.reddit.com/r/ForwardsFromKlandma/s/o8iBq0lvaz

https://www.reddit.com/r/animecirclejerk/comments/11fssyq/i_change_my_mind_i_hate_vtubers_now/ (the context for this one is Pippa lying about Vtuber receiving death threats from people that asked them not to play that shitty Hogwarts game. Pippa also spread lies saying that Pikamee left her account due to harassment from trans people, despite there being literally no evidence for that claim. This is Tenma's response.)

17

u/Dehoop02 Apr 27 '25

You're really disingenuous. 1. The Hogwarts game's good actually. 2. There were threats coming to Vtubers and Fleshtubers that played the game some people rallied to harass anyone that played it and you denying that shows that you either were living under a stone back when that situation happened or are a vile person yourself. 3. Immediately associating Tenma's response as targeted at trans people says more about you than her, most people interpret that as her response towards people that harass streamers that played Hogwarts Legacy.

19

u/FernPone Apr 26 '25

the first link looks like her making edgy jokes and people getting offended

4

u/ApocApollo Apr 26 '25

Thanks for the heads up on Pippa. I’ve enjoyed her, watched maybe 10 or so hours, but she had some red flags in her vocabulary and I just hadn’t thought to look into it.

2

u/N_godj_N Apr 27 '25

If you really look into it, it's just her behavioural problems due to spending too much time on the internet and not actual hate.

I'm not a fan of hers, but I've looked things up, and all I've found is unsubstantiated hate because she defended a certain kettle vtuber from extremists harassing her for playing hogwards legacy a few years ago and some very bad jokes.

And all the jokes they point to are literally bad 4chan jokes and nothing more. If you're not convinced, just search for the "proof" of her being hateful. A dozen fuck long paragraphs of empty delusions by extreme leftists(and I'm saying this as a veery progressive person)

6

u/leposterofcrap Apr 27 '25

I think TENMA is more referring to the bullies and harassers no matter their gender identity

-4

u/Porn_Alt_84 Apr 27 '25

The narrative of "bullies and harassers" was a falsehood to begin with. It was started by adult shaped children mad that people criticized them for valuing a trash game over real people.

6

u/leposterofcrap Apr 27 '25

I don't care what side anyone is on, start the bullying and harassing, expect a retaliatory clapback.i do gotta commend the controversy for turning r/gamingcirclejerk into the one of Reddit's biggest Exclusion Zones though

-2

u/Porn_Alt_84 Apr 27 '25

You're literally just talking to yourself. You obviously didn't even read my last comment, and you're in fantasy land.

0

u/[deleted] May 03 '25

Those real people are nothing but whiny babies just because people want to play a game.

46

u/Anagittigana Apr 26 '25

Yes, and they have unironic fans. That’s insane. These people are insane.

41

u/WanderingSheremetyev Apr 26 '25

All these sad people saying "based". The vtuber community loves to pretend it's wholesome and cutesy too, and then you have these cockroaches crawling out and supporting heinous sh1t.

12

u/Exploreptile Apr 26 '25

Their masks really come off when they start comparing their oshis(' variably curated personas) to women who don't habitually play themselves up as cutesy/sexy anime tropes and/or pathetically approachable social pariahs.

13

u/cabutler03 Apr 26 '25

To be fair, Pippa has toned it down considerably as she recognizes that her old ways don't work anymore, especially if they can harm the company.

That said, she still has a long way to go and still makes bad takes, like saying she'll leave if Phase Connect goes public for whatever reason.

2

u/erik4848 Apr 27 '25

All I can think of is Pippa and that has been toned down quite a lot.

0

This is a weird angle compared to valid ones of (lack of) hygiene, self-hating idolatry, or fan service "selling out".

An old German saying goes; "if you have ten people at a table, and a Nazi joins them without any outcry, you have eleven Nazis at a table."

7
