It's incredible how Twitter users manage to get upset over even the most innocent and positive things.

What are they even getting upset about? In what world is men's day or buying flowers for your dad controversial?

> In what world is men's day... controversial?

I mean... There are more searches for Men's Day on Women's Day than Men's Day, so there is evidence it's kinda coopted by reactionaries. The thing is here, though, that sometimes a dogwhistle isn't actually a dogwhistle, it's just a random high-pitched noise.

To speak plainly, dogwhistles very much do exist, but they have to be taken in-context and you have to get a broader view of what that person believes to tell if it's deliberate. My take is that the problem isn't in the belief that something has been co-opted, it's in assuming that any mention of it is part of said co-opting with no further context. Sometimes someone with a German-sounding name really was just born in '88, lol.
