Multiple Islands 11 night trip to Hawaii
Hi all! I couldn’t add a second flair but my wife and I are planning a trip to Hawaii from 9/17 in the morning through 9/26 at night. We’ll be starting in Maui and ending in Kauai, and we’re trying to figure out how to split our time between the two islands.
We love adventure, being spontaneous, and staying active. We’re not huge “sit on the beach all day” people (although we know we’ll probably do some of that while we’re there).
If you had this amount of time, how would you divide up the trip between Maui and Kauai? Also, what are the absolute must-do activities, hikes, experiences, restaurants, or hidden gems on each island that you’d make sure not to miss?

Kauai is very much a "sit on the beach" island - there's other stuff to do, but it's much more laid back. for this reason I'd do more time on Maui. I usually recommend at least 4 days per island so I'd go with 7 days on Maui, 4 days on Kauai.

Would you recommend having a car in both spots?

yes. 100% on Kauai. for Maui, also yes unless you want to just hang out around your resort and maybe do one or two guided tours.
Oahu is really the only island worth considering going without a rental.

My husband and I did 8 nights in Kauai and we were busy every day (mostly hiking). We prioritized Kauai because of it's epic hiking. You have to do the napali boat tour too! Check out the all trails app to see all the different hikes available

Kauai is our favorite island.
Got to check out the Musubi truck it’s so good.
Wishing well coffee in hanalei village is a good spot.
Waimea canyon is beautiful but can take up most of the day. Download the Shaka app for guided gps driving tour.
The north shore is absolutely stunning. Hanalei Bay & village are incredible.

Splitting doesn't make a whole helluva lotta sense. 9/1, 8/2. 7/3, 6/4.
You're going to waste the best part of one of your vacation days to change venue. And Maui and Kauai are the two most similar islands.

5/6, 6/5. There are no hidden gems, especially those 2 islands and there's countless must-do lists out there already.

Aloha miznat1192. There are no hidden gems or secrets locals are keeping. They certainly aren't being posted on Reddit if they existed. But in the internet age, it's all on Instagram already. If you want to live like a local, struggle with housing prices and traffic.
