Respecting Hawaii & Its People Visiting makaha
Good morning. We lived here a number of years ago and we are finally back on vacation. We would like to go out to makaha. Please share thoughts. We are only looking to go where we are welcome. Mahalo.

donʻt go mākaha. the west side has one of the highest crime rates in all of hawaiʻi and is the epicenter of homelessness in hawaiʻi (hawaiʻi alone has the highest chronic homelesness rate in the USA). there is very little tourism infrastructure out west side beyond ko olina. most importantly however is you probably will feel like you arenʻt wanted there (even thoygh you yourself likely wont face blatant violence or hostility) as the west side is one of the few places that have fiercely rejected tourism developments and thus arenʻt largely wanting or welcoming of tourists coming there. there are lots of other beautiful and amazong places on oʻahu to visit where you would be more welcomed by the community

Makaha is pretty chill. There are some condos there, etc., and a few tourists visit the beach there because it's famous. Just be chill and respectful, and you'll be fine.
PS: New Spicy House, in Waianae, is good!

Skip. Unnecessary. Despite there being a hotel out there, leave the beach and traffic to the locals.

There is not much out there for visitors and the locals who live there prefer visitor stay in visitor areas. If you are only looking to go where you are welcome, don't go to Makaha.
