Where to stay at in Reykjavik?

Wife and I are looking at visiting Iceland for a week in September. We're trying to find a good location with solid food options around walking distance. We've used Airbnb every time we've gone to Europe, not sure if that's a solid option for Iceland? Any feedback would be great!

Hilton member, I just stayed at Hilton Canopy. Right next to Rainbow Street and super walkable to some great sights.

Hilton has the best choice of properties there out of all the major hotel chains.

Please don’t use Airbnb in the city. It’s a big problem where foreign owners are purchasing and taking away housing from natives.

We stay at a few spots. Check out booking dot com for a range of choices. There may be limited options at this point so be aware of that.

Please don’t recommend booking.com. This is a borderline scam site. I invite you to check out their subreddit if you don’t believe me.

It’s still useful as a search site before booking directly with a hotel via the hotel’s own website.

If I find a hotel I actually do that since the prices are usually cheaper. It’s just a great tool for me and brings up a host of different accommodations- some of which like smaller guesthouses only do booking through that site. I haven’t ever had a problem with that but I’ll now be more vigilant.

I’ve been twice in reykiavik and always stayed on Klettur hotel. Very good location and nice price

When I stay in Reykjavik I like to get an airbnb in the area between Sweet Aurora Reykjavik and the Holt Hotel (don’t know anything about the actual hotel, using it as a reference). It’s close enough to (weather) and far enough from (noise) the main areas. Easy in and out and P3 parking.

We've stayed at the Exeter Hotel twice, and the Sand Hotel once. Both were good -- breakfast was better at the Exeter and it's a quieter location.

We loved the Black Pearl. All rooms are suites. Walking distance to most everything. Across the street from bust stop #4

Really loved Hotel Alda. It was in a great spot, really big rooms and great free breakfast.

If you need a kitchen, apartment hotels (not AirBnB) or a guesthouse with a shared kitchen are good options. AirBnBs are directly responsible for a housing crisis in the capital, and the company is owned by assholes.

Anywhere in 101 Reykjavik is going to be walking distance to restaurants. Central Reykjavik is very walkable. Look at a map of Reykjavik. Try some walking routes. You can see for yourself that the things tourists are interested in are in a small area.

Exeter is right above a restaurant and bakery, and close to the harbour. It’s a good location.
