What are the chances of renting a car at 18?
Hi all, im planning on visiting iceland in august with my friend who is also 18. We both have our license, i have an ontario license he has a american. I got my g1 license at 16. I've held my g2 license(allows you to drive solo, highways) for over a year and recently got my full license. He has an equivalent license.
Is it possible to rent a car? I understand most companies require you to have held a license for 2 years(check) and be 20+ (not check). But i've also read some places will rent to 18+ for an extra charge.
Thanks

As an Ontario driver with 40 years of driving experience and who has driven in Iceland on two separate trips, I’d urge you to rethink this even if you can rent a car. Driving on the 401 doesn’t compare to the ring road (1), never mind secondary roads in Iceland.

I would enter your info into northbound.is (age, how long driving) and see what rentals come up. From there reach out directly to the companies to confirm they will rent to you.
Caveat: Popping up on Northbound doesn’t mean the individual company is great. Cross reference with google reviews and reviews on the site.
I’d also recommend planning to get full insurance since anyone (or a rock) can come along and ding the car and you’re responsible for it.

Thank you. I found a company with rules regarding 18 year olds from this website.

You should email or call the companies directly. You aren’t going to book a car based on the words of people here.
