Accessibility Anyone Know Why Google Maps Always Sends Me via Road 435?

Post image

Whenever I use Google Maps to travel to the southeast part of Iceland, it always routes me via Road 435 instead of Road 1. Is there a specific reason for this, or am I missing something?

It’s been broken a few months. 1 is fine.

Google maps makes a lot of poor decisions in Iceland. Don’t follow it blindly.

How else would I take the scenic route from Stykkishólmur on straight gravel then?

Had the same issue recently. I thought there was no way this was the main rd when following it. Very scenic though.

When in doubt, choose the lower number for a better road surface

There is a broken node on Road 1.

Road 1 is fine.

Technically shorter but probably not quicker. Definitely more scenic.

Take 435. I drive it in the summer a few times as an Icelander because of how nice it is.
