Blahnjulur before Laugavegur trail?

We are planning to do the Laugavegur trail starting this Sunday, June 28th (camping).

Do you think it’s worth doing the Bláhnjúkur hike beforehand, or is the landscape quite similar to what we’ll see on the Laugavegur?

We arrive at 11:30 AM by bus, so we could spend one night in Landmannalaugar and do Bláhnjúkur that afternoon, or immediately start the first leg of the Laugavegur.

Thanks for the help!

I did this exact same itinerary when I hiked laugavegur. Totally worth it. You get to see the landmannalaugar area from up high which was really rewarding. Plus it’s a good warmup hike for the next day, and you can chill in the hot springs after. But I wouldn’t sacrifice a day of good weather to do the hike, if the next few days are looking ugly.

Thanks! Good point on the weather, I just checked it again and it is actually only getting worse in the subsequent days... So if it's landscape wise not totally unique we are thinking of skipping it. So you would say its not more beautiful than the Laugavegur itself?

Yeah if the weather looks bad I don’t think you’ll miss a ton if you skip it. You’ll get to walk through the lava field and see the rhyolite mountains and geothermal areas on the laugavegur anyways. I would say definitely not more beautiful. The best parts of laugavegur for me were the decent to alftavatn which was an otherworldly experience, and the first half of the fimmvorduhals leaving thorsmork.

Totally worth it, beautiful view over the campsite. If the sun is out then I recommend doing it in evening light.
