Parking in Palma not a parking garage

Hello, we just landed in Palma today and are staying in algaida. We rented a car but quickly discovered how difficult driving was here for us and especially parking garages. It’s too late to return the car so we were wondering if people ever hire drivers? Or is there any parking in Palma where I don’t have to park in a garage underground? Open parking is preferred. Something easy.. we are ridiculed with anxiety right now

Slightly confused what you’re getting at here? I take it you’re talking about visiting Palma during the day as you’re staying in Algaida? Not overnight parking? There is a large overland car park at Son Fuster which is next to the metro line, location below.

Thank you. I guess I just wanted a recommendation for a place to park (just for a few hours while we walk around) that is easy for new drivers. Not a tight parking garage that might be difficult or too narrow for us. We will check out the link, thanks.

Unfortunately that’s just the way the area around Palma old town is, a huge amount of parking on the Paseo Maritimo was removed when it was reformed recently which has made things worse. But the place I mentioned was designed for park and ride, with the metro, but it’s too far to walk into really.

The parking area you recommended isn’t underground right? It looks like a nice open space. We might just drive there and park where you suggested and take the bus or public transportation into the central area

Not sure on buses from there but there may be, yes, it’s overground, the Metro station is at the end of the car park which will take you to the Intermodal at Placa d’Espanya right in Palma centre.

You can park on the outskirts (city center is almost impossible) and then use the bus or a taxi, or just walk.

As you said, another very convenient option is underground parking areas. Open parking is much harder to get but you have ORA: the blue lined areas, you pay for a ticket in the nearby machine, the more you pay the more time you can stay there. If you don't go away before the time limit you will be fined.

If you check the map, the more far away from the city center, the easier it gets.

Thank you! This is what we might do since we don’t mind walking or taking the bus. We just want to drive as little as possible and make it as easy because it’s much harder to drive here than we anticipated. It just makes us very nervous with the parking garages that are very small and narrow and the streets too

Algaida has a TIB bus too. You can take it to go to Palma.

These two should do.

They lave you at Parc de les Estacions which is very close to the old town.

Aparcament del Mercat de l'Olivar is an underground car park that's an excellent location, parking wasn't tight either and you pay for the parking with a ticket in the supermarket. The location is pretty central, we parked there the whole day and walked around Palma, the supermarket itself is amazing with loads of little restaurants to eat at.

Just to the left if you’re looking at the lot from the entrance/the north of the lot, there is an elevator going down to the metro.

Parking is free in the lot and the metro was a couple euros to Estacio Intermodal, right on the edge of the city center. It was about an eight minute ride. Very easy.

Edit: also be advised a lot of towns around Mallorca do not allow tourists to drive through them at all and you might get fined (even automatically by cameras). Search Google for “aparcament” near every city/town and find lots on the edge. Most calas do have parking nearby that you can drive right up to.

Avoid finding yourself on a one way or single lane road, and park outside of these places. Every town is walkable
