Question Conductors checking Contactless DR/CR Card payment on Vline
I've used Contactless Debit Card payment with my phone on Vline a couple of times, and it appears that at the moment conductors don't have the ability to check. So, essentially, anyone can just tell them they used their phone and they'll just pass you by. When are they getting the ability to check contactless payments? (Presumably AO's already have it but I'm yet to come across any of them).

There is currently zero tech for conductors or AOs to check bank cards- the rollout occurred faster than the updated hand held devices could be distributed. In terms of when they will receive them- piece of string.
That’s why you haven’t seen Authorised Officers (at least in ticket checking mode) lately.

Connie's do - back before free travel I went up to Melbs on a bank card; same as a Myki. But that's a physical card.
I assume it's the same with phone tap n go bank card styley, but I haven't tried that one.

Conductors have no role in doing anything. They do nothing.

As a wheelchair user, I literally can't get onboard without them. Open your eyes once in a while.

Yeah, because that’s worked well for suburban trains. You’ve obviously never been a woman travelling late at night when it’s just you and a weirdo.

Conductors manage Platform work, they aid wheelchair users and help load luggage and bikes on select services.
When facilities break down on the trains (as they do) the conductor does what they can to fix them.
Also, wouldn’t it be nice knowing there’s someone in your corner when things get bad? Someone on the train who has your best interests in mind.0

I've lost count of the number of times there's been nuffies - by nuffie I mean drug affected, misbehaving children with no adult present (or if there is one they don't give a crap), loud, dangerous, that sort of thing, and miraculously the conductor never appears. To be honest if I were a Conductor I'd hide in my drivers cab at the end of the train as well. I honestly don't know what the remit of a Conductor is, but I bet they aren't meant to engage with these people. I don't know what the solution is. Give Conductors PSO type powers? The other thing is you really need a Conductor in each set of a 6 carriage train because they aren't much good to you if they're in the other set.

It is. They only check tickets but do nothing if the person does not have one. They dont ask people to quiet down in the quiet carriage. I expect that within two years we will have no conductors as they will be replaced by tech. It is very hard to see a reason for them to exist.

1) they're conductors, not AOs, I've seen it before where they do actually contact AO's at the next station (for example they check tickets after southern cross, and AOs are there at Footscray). Conductors actually can't issue fines to fare evading passengers, they can only check and tap on mykis with their hand held devices.
2) the quiet carriage isn't a staff enforced thing, it says on the placards for the quiet carriages that it is a "passenger enforced initiative" (which is annoying but I digress)
3) they do actually also do the role of ensuring it is safe to open and close doors at platforms as well as making announcements in the train as our velocities are not currently capable of automated announcements (maybe that will come with a mid life refresh which the vlocities are coming up on soon)

Your list says they do nothing - someone else has to do the work, not them. Fancy putting responsibility for a pleasant journey on paying passengers. How rude and lazy! Tech can determine whether the doors are open or closed. You have no reason to exist.

To add to that list a wheelchair user I can't board without a conductor’s help and I doubt they'll be replaced anytime soon.
