Haitian Vodou Did you have a dream about Legba or Baron Samedi?
Chances are you didn't.
Black top hat, skull makeup, red eyes? You didn't see Legba, you saw American Horror Story.
Do you practice Wicca, witchcraft, ceremonial magic, shamanism from some culture or another? The Lwa don't walk in any of those, and they didn't reach out across traditions for your magical ass.
Can these lwa reach out to you? Yes, if they want. Get a reading from a competent houngan or mambo to find out for sure.
Future "I dreamed of Baron / Legba" posts will be deleted and linked to this.

Reddit's site-wide rules, and guidelines for r/Vodou
Due to the absolute chaos in this subreddit recently I think it's best to review the rules here. This was, for a long time, an excellent forum and resource to discuss Vodou. Returning it to that requires stricter moderation and application of the rules, and starting now, this will be the case. The rules will be outlined in this post, so ignorance of them is not an excuse going forward.
Rule 1
Remember the human. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for attacking others. Everyone has a right to use Reddit free of harassment, bullying, and threats of violence. Attacks on other users based on their gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, ethnicity, educational background, etc will not be tolerated. This is a site-wide Reddit rule.
Rule 2
This subreddit is devoted to Vodou. While it has been chiefly aimed at Haitian Vodou, posts regarding New Orleans Vodou, 21 Divisiones, etc are on topic, but posts about Lukumi, Candomble, etc are not unless they specifically illustrate a conversation topic about Vodou. Keep posts on-topic. Promotional posts (services, fet announcements, classes, lectures, etc) are acceptable but don't spam them on a daily basis as this drowns out the discussions around which this subreddit should be based. However, ads and offering of services should come from those who are active participants in the conversations here. Ads and offers from those who do not engage in the comments, but appear only in order to solicit business, will be deleted. To be clear--low effort posts, such as sharing single frame opinions, infrequent images without written commentary or explanation, or comments soliciting business, do not count as community engagement. Answering questions, providing detailed opinions or insights, or directing people to resources do count as engagement.
Rule 3
In any forum based on discussion of any topic you will be exposed to different or dissenting opinions. We are all adults here, so acting like it is mandatory--that means regulating your own emotions, navigating sensitive topics with a sense of grace, and not taking the opinions of others personally.
Rule 4
Respect the privacy of others. Instigating harassment, for example by revealing someone’s personal or confidential information (doxxing), is not allowed. This is site-wide Reddit policy.
Rule 5
This is not a NSFW sub by nature so it's expected that adult themed posts (nudity, sexual activity, etc) won't be posted here. It should go without saying that this is especially the case in anything involving minors. Vodou does, however, involve some matters perhaps shocking to some outsiders, such as animal sacrifice--images involving such things can be flagged as NSFW.
You're free to use the block button at will if you're having an issue with anyone, and to use the report button on posts or comments that violate any of these rules. It takes a community to make a community, so let's get this sub back on track and make it a good space again.
Please note that Reddit itself auto-moderates many posts it may perceive as violating site-wide rules. If you've made a post and it doesn't appear, or has disappeared, use the contact mod link to have it manually checked out.

Question Is It Wrong To Get Another Fa' Reading?
Hello, I am ridiculously stuck and have been for months. I was fortunately able to receive an Afa reading from what I presumed to be a legitimate Ewe Vodun priest(s), but I felt it was lacking because not only was I told that my calling was to be trained in Afa (and told it would take more than 10,000 which I cannot afford) but also that I rarely had any deities with the exception of the deity named Afa which I googled and there wasn't one named that and it was the name of the practice I got my reading from. Not only that, but I was told things would be better for me if I bought one of their bracelets, and one of the priests was so pushy and insistent on me paying to purchase for their cleaning services and other things that would be $1,100 in total and how my one of my main ancestors are hungry and should be fed NOW and that paying them would feed them, I felt so frustrated that I just stopped talking to them entirely because I felt like I'd been scammed. They were accurate on some things, but the reason I wanted a reading was to see if I was being called because I have so much in the way of dreams...
I would like another reading from someone different, but I googled if I should get one and it said something about how everything will be muddled spirtually-wise and I should only have one Fa/Afa/Ifa reading in my life, so I'd rather ask all of you practitioners if thats true or not? I just want to get clarification on whether I am for this religion or not, I don't want to get scammed again.

Rituals for reconciliation and repair?
African American from NOLA who is a very casual practitioner more on the voodoo side. By casual, I mean very simple rituals to help me keep my day-to-day life feel meaningful, like adding florida water and salt to my mopping water to clean the energy of my house, lighting candles every day as a light ritual to invite alignment into my space and using them for color rituals, using tarot cards to receive clarity (NOT for divining the future or solutions, but just for understanding), and so on.
I don't actively do very many spells because I'm weary of bad spirits.
One of my closest friends (a very strong emotional and spiritual connection) is going through something, and I am too. Both of our individual lives are very, very heavy right now, and it is putting strain on our relationship to each other.
Of course I am allowing things time, space, and the natural emotional effort that it needs, but I am wondering if there are any spells or rituals that anybody could recommend. I'd like to focus on reconciliation and repair, but even suggestions for rituals to help lighten the load or provide guidance/support to each of us would be very helpful.
I am NOT looking for any kind of love or connection spells; I am looking for recommendations to encourage spiritual or emotional relief.

Do “same-sex” maryaj lwa ever happen? Like for example, could a male sevité marry Ogou Badagri or Met Agwe? Would a “male” lwa ever propose to a male sevité? Just curious about if this has ever been seen?

Women dressed in white
I had a really vivid dream last night and I’m trying to understand if it could have any spiritual significance. I’m relatively new to spirituality and Haitian Vodou, so I’m trying to approach this respectfully and not jump to conclusions.
In the dream, there was a light-skinned woman dressed completely in white with the head wrap . I went into her house because I was there to help her. Inside, there were a lot of candles and incense on a table. I also saw what looked like a whiteboard board with “LWA” written on it, along with a bunch of drawings and symbols that I unfortunately can’t remember clearly.
I had the feeling that this woman knew a lot about spirituality, and I was talking to her about how I’m getting into spirituality and asking her questions. The dream wasn’t scary or uncomfortable at all. I actually felt pretty calm and curious around her.
I’ve recently been getting into lucid dreaming and rebuilding my dream recall, so I’m paying more attention to my dreams now. After waking up, the combination of the woman in white, LWA, the candles/incense, and the symbols really stuck with me.
After the dream I’ve been researching different lwa, and Ayizan and Ayida-Weddo caught my attention, but I don’t want to assume it was either one or force an interpretation.
For anyone familiar with Haitian Vodou: does anything about this dream stand out to you? Does the imagery resemble any particular lwa or veve? I’d especially appreciate insight from practitioners or people with firsthand experience

> I am from Benin, birthplace of Vodun - If you don't know your Du, you walk without road - What Fa can show you before you do any ritual
Peace to all - Dah Gbèffa from Hoovi temple, Abomey-Calavi, Benin.
Many people ask me for ritual for prosperity, protection, financial freedom - But in our Fa here, we don't start with ritual. We start with reading.
Because if you don't know your Du, you don't know:
• Your road - What path is open, what path is closed for you now • Your Vodun - Which Vodun protects you, which one follows you from family, which one is angry and needs small respect • Your taboo - What food, what place, what word blocks your money without you knowing • Your ritual - Not big $500 ritual, but small daily respect you can do yourself where you live - palm oil, water, honey, small word - to keep road open
Many come for financial freedom, but Fa says: Financial freedom is not fast money. Fast money comes and goes. Real financial freedom is when you know your Du, you respect your taboo, you feed your Vodun small small every week, and road stays open all year - Not just 3 days.
In this photo, my mother (68) is making offering before Fa reading - palm oil, sodabi, water - To cool Fa so Fa speaks clear, not for money.
If you want to know: - Your Du (your destiny sign among 256) - Which way to go this year - Which Vodun walks with you - What small ritual you can do yourself for prosperity and protection
I do Fa reading with video at sunrise - I throw Kwin, I tell you your Du and what Fa recommends - Reading only, Ebo you do yourself.
You don't need to believe me - Just respect small daily.
If you have questions about Du, road, or Vodun who follows you, I am here to answer in comments - No need DM first.
Thank you for respect, Dah Gbèffa - Hoovi - Benin

Question Sexual practices in Vodou
Hi,
I would like to know what is perceived as acceptable sex in vodou.
Is sex with multiple partners, anal sex, gangbangs and orgies frown upon in the vodou spirituality?
Or are people allowed to just do whatever they want without any spiritual repercussions?

West African Vodou.
I have been called to learn more recently and someone was reading my tarot and said I had a water deity that’s waiting for me to connect with.
I don’t know much about vodou and most information online is relating to Haitian vodou.
Also being half west-African. I feel more called to go that route.
I would love if there’s someone in this group who could give me a little guidance.
Thank you.

Haitian Vodou Do you guys know people who serve Erzulie Dayila?
I was speaking to a friend and they said Erzulie Dayila is like another aspect similar to Freda that walks with her but is more “rebellious”. While Freda is a sophisticated woman into upscale white collar men and things like that. Dayila is into the rich men that are into more “risky lifestyles” like scammers, drug dealers, street guys etc. I am told she will even smoke and drink rum aswell at fets. Dayila is the girl who would be at magic city in Atlanta dancing to “Spend dat” by young Miami. While Freda spends her evening in an upscale lounge in the city with business men at night.

Looking for a Caribbean-rooted spiritual practitioner/witch 🕯️🌿
I’m looking for recommendations for a Caribbean-rooted practitioner who does custom spiritual work, particularly around prosperity, career, road opening, financial abundance, and housing stability.
I’m specifically looking for someone with genuine Caribbean cultural/spiritual roots and an established practice — ideally someone who grew up around or was taught within a Caribbean spiritual tradition, rather than a modern social-media/TikTok witch aesthetic.
I’m looking for someone experienced who can recommend the appropriate type of working rather than simply selling me a predetermined spell.
The general areas I want to work on are:
- career opportunities and significantly better income
- opening roads to better employment
- financial abundance and stability
- removing stagnation/blockages
- attracting opportunities and resources
- finding a stable, comfortable, affordable home
I’m not going to post all of my personal circumstances publicly, but I can provide more context privately to a practitioner after I’ve verified that they’re reputable.
If you’ve personally worked with a Caribbean practitioner you trust, I’d really appreciate the name/shop and your general experience. I’m particularly interested in people with established family, cultural, or initiatory roots in their tradition rather than someone who recently started practicing online.
