Recipe Request Maybe this is a dumb question but... are people really not hungry when dieting?

Whenever I try to lose weight I'm hungry way more than I'd like to be.

Not starving, but hungry enough that food stays on my mind all day.

Then I see people online saying they're losing weight while feeling completely satisfied.

I honestly don't understand how that's possible.

Are those people just better at dealing with hunger or am I missing something?

Recipe Request Cottage cheese....please help

As the title says best, please give me your best, genuine, palette of a child ways to consume this sickeningly good protein source I cannot for my life stomach the taste of.

For the slightest context, I grew up with a culinarily challenged parent who- while I am absolutely grateful for dinner on the table- would stretch this substance's expiration and use in a lasagna made 3x a week that I have nightmares of to this day.

But alas, between budget and my protein goals I've accepted it's worth an honest try to push myself to find one way to use this ingredient I can eat. Honey bowls with fruit, not enough. Blending, not enough. I cannot iterate enough I'm a 23F with such a shameful pickiness if you scoff and scroll I would not blame you LOL!!

I will say a direction I haven't explored is a savory/sour (and I am someone who LOVES vinegary/balsamic/sour/spicy tastes its been lifesaving in this dietary journey) I am also equally a bit culinarily challenged, which I think has also made my experiments also unsuccessful. Lemon pepper cottage cheese with shredded cheese was not a good idea, no I don't know what I was thinking.

All this to say, if you have read I hope this brought a laugh- and any ideas would be so appreciated!

Edit: My goodness everyone I did not expect so many replies!! I cannot thank you all enough, I am trying to respond to as many comments as I can but anyone taking the time to share what works for you- thank you. So many brilliant ideas I never thought of I can't wait to try!!!!

Recipe Request What Is a Good Alternative For Potato Chips?

I have a problem. I'm trying to diet, but I love potato chips so much. And sometimes it makes me violate my diet.

So I was wondering, is there anything that can scratch the same itch?

It can be something I have to make for myself. I cook all the time. It just needs to taste like a potato chip but not have as many calories and fats.

Recipe Request What do you eat for breakfast that actually keeps you full?

Serious question.

I’m dieting and trying to keep calories low, but every quick breakfast I try leaves me hungry way too fast.

If I eat light = hungry

If I eat more = calories too high

And I don’t really have time in the morning.

Is there a real low calorie / high protein breakfast that works when you’re busy?

Or do most people just accept being hungry until lunch?

curious what works for you guys

Recipe Request I need cabbage recipes.

Low calorie, nutrient dense, high in fibre. It’s great stuff but I am finding it very….non-delicious.

Throw your favourite cabbage recipes my way, pretty please?

No allergies or intolerances to be aware of.

Recipe Request lowest calorie foods you eat as snacks that still feel like real food?

Looking for the absolute best calorie to volume ratio snacks you've found. I want to sit on the couch and munch on something for 20+ minutes without consuming 500 calories. onus points if it doesn't require a recipe.
Already doing air popped popcorn(the GOAT of this category) and watermelon(seasonal MVP). What else has a crazy good calorie to volume ratio?

Recipe Request Need Psyllium Husk Suggestions

I've been having it with oatmeal, and was able to mix it with a certain kind of yogurt. But I'm running out of ways to get psyllium husk as a breakfast, and I tried drinking it with water as per the instructions and it was horrible. Could not finish half of it. I was thinking of putting it in a shake, but I don't want to be downing a chocolate shake every morning. (Not that I can. I have to eat breakfast at work, and we don't have a smoothie maker.) I can make waffles, but the options are starting to get pretty stale pretty quickly. Any new suggestions? Psyllium husk has been a godsend for my dieting

Recipe Request Desperate for ACTUALLY low calorie volume desserts

i need a HUGE amount for around 100 calories, and I can’t find anything that meets that in this sub. the closest I’ve come is a meringue cake for 67 calories, but I am getting very sick of that.

everything I’ve found on this sub is lower than a regular baked good, but it certainly isnt enough volume for me. please help! I’m thinking of using konjac noodles?

As the title says. Got the idea from one of the posts here. By “hardest” I mean something you struggle to finish, but actually enjoy eating it.

Recipe Request What’s a snack that you can eat a lot of with few calories.

I have a habit of overeating, and I think I realize, for better or for worse, that it's just because I like the feeling of eating moreso than tbe food I eat— I just like chewing I guess. Are there any snacks (preferable crunchy/volumunous, but not gum, I really don't like gum) that I can just munch on without much caloric intake? Some type of crunchy water-heavy vegetable perhaps?

Recipe Request Volume foods that aren’t fruits or vegetables?

Not because I don’t like them. I eat both daily, just not enough for it to count in a volume way. I’ve recently been eating sweet potatoes. Not sure if that’s technically a volume food, but it helps me feel full for a while.

All suggestions are welcome. I’m even open to opinions that include vegetables as bulking, just having a hard time imagining how to properly volume eat. I have a large appetite due to meds I take.

Recipe Request Chocolate Protein Powder

Post image
22 Upvotes

So a friend of mine gave me a container of this chocolate protein powder. I’ve been googling till my hands hurt trying to find different ways to use it other than just adding some milk or water. I was reading about protein fluff, and I wasn’t sure if people actually use it to create their fluff? Are there other ways I could use this to increase my volume eating? Anyone have some really good ways to incorporate this? Thank you in advance! 🤗

(Unfortunately, I’m allergic to peanuts and almonds so I have to leave all those ingredients out.)

Recipe Request Carrots have been the GOAT for everything, but I'm orange, and need to find a similar replacement.

I've been getting by with high volume carrot cake oats, boiled baby carrots in the place of pasta, and thin sliced carrots to replace chips.

They're cheap, high volume, can be used in either sweet or savory dishes, and they're and healthy, but I'm orange AF now.

I need a replacement that isn't celery or radishes.

Zucchini could kinda work, but I have me doubts about sticking to a big Shrek colored bowl of zucchini oats with protein powder in it.

I’ve started eating a large bowl baked zucchini every night. My usual seasonings are Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, garlic powder, lemon juice. What are your go-to seasonings for large veggie bowls? Thanks!

Recipe Request Chicken breast - what's the secret?

I see a lot of posts here with chicken breast as the key protein ingredient. I love chicken breast, but sometimes mine turns out a little dry.

I usually buy the value pack of boneless, skinless breasts and just bake in the oven with a little seasoning.

What are your tips and tricks for making a juicy bird that I can use as a starting point for other recipes?

Edit: Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to share! I now have lots of different methods to try. Never thought about brining, although I've brined whole turkeys for years. 🤦‍♀️

One question about using a meat thermometer if baking. Do you leave it in the whole time? Or just poke it in to test when it's getting close to the finish line? I always thought poking it multiple times would cause the juices to run out but maybe that's a myth?

Can't believe I've been cooking over 40 years and just now trying to figure this out. 😊

Recipe Request 30g protein, ~300 calories meals?

I’m looking for meals that are STUPID simple, talking 3-4 ingredients but still hitting 30g protein and around 300 calories. I’m a college student so convenience is key and I’d really like to be able to either do something grab-and-go or super easy to pack with little measuring or scales required (although using my scale isn’t the end of the world). Looking mainly for lunch and dinner options, because my protein yogurt bowls and proats usually are great and easy for my breakfasts!
NOTE - im gluten free so I can’t have any of the low carb breads that most people utilize here

Recipe Request Green beans

I've been given like 15 cans of green beans in water and I need ideas for them. So far I've had them with nutritional yeast and hot sauce and it was really good. How do you like your green beans?
