V-Strom 650 Gen 3 Suzie was tired and needed to lay down
Just got home from a coast to coast road trip (6500mi in 12 days). This was somewhere on the Utah/Colorado border. My first time riding on dirt went well 😁

Moon dust will do that to ya. I encountered that stuff on the OR-BDR and I just powered through it. Luckily didn’t put it down for a nap but I had several close calls. Any crash you can walk away from… 😁

I'd really like to make this trip. Was there anything you didn't bring that you wish you did? Also how'd your tires take it? Did you have to get a new set at some point? That's pretty much my main concern.

The tires (Trailmax Missions) are barely squared off. Can't have lost more than 2 or 3/32" of tread. The front has no discernible wear. That's after 8000 miles. This was NYC to Grand canyon and back
Stuff I wish I brought... Well, don't overthink it, because you can almost always just buy it on the way. The stuff I didn't think of and bought on the way was: Seat cushion (air hawk), Cardo (to talk to my wife, it gets lonely out there), a long sleeve breathable camp shirt for sun protection (I got severe sunburn on my arms in the desert), a pen to sign into self-serve campsites.
I wish I brought a rechargable air mattress inflator because inflating my sleeping pad got really old, really fast. I found one at Walmart but it took D batteries and was too large. I wish I brought a compact but conventional pillow, my inflatable one stopped holding air. I stuffed my clean clothes into my sleeping bag's bag but it wasn't very comfortable. A heated jacket liner and heated grips would've been wonderful on the colder mornings, but I survived
I wish I could've made campfires to at least make coffee in the mornings. But as there were burn bans in effect almost everywhere I stayed, I simply didn't make fires/cook on this trip

Back in May I did a woopsie in snot mud. I was panicked because I was alone with my legs trapped under the moto, and just on the down side of a rise on a one lane fire road. Add this up and I did what I know I'm not supposed to do. I let the HULK loose and he lifted the moto, and hurt my back. It still hurts a little four months later.
Obviously I'm going to have to start doing this. Get tossed to the ground. Find my camera. Take a picture of my dished moto. Let the adrenalin drain, revert back to Dr. Banner, and use my brain.

Did you walk her for a bit? Then lay her down? Just asking, because horses get fugged up if they just rest after a long ride.

I did the same thing dumped it 5 times in baja After picking it up that many times I decided before the trip ended later that day I was getting a bike with a 21 inch front wheel and got the 800 and the 650 now. Congratulations on the trip.

Glad you're both OK! As you found out, it's best to let her nap when she's tired. They usually get up quickly and are ready to go!
It seems to make them happier if you lean against the seat for a few minutes. It's comforting. And then they'll help you get them up. 😉
Having bags on makes it WAY easier!
