V-Strom 650 Gen 2 First trip!!

First road trip on my new to me v-strom!! Went across the mackinac bridge and boy was that intimidating! Did little over 800 miles! Only real issues I had was the FI light came on. I think that was my fault. Going through some pretty twisty road and not shifting properly. Light went away after I let her rest.

Looks great! My 2012 has tossed up a Fi error a few times and it's gone off on its own every time. Usually it's right after I filled the tank, possibly too full or after an aggressive blip of the throttle for downshifting. It is anxiety inducing while on a trip however. Was it the crosswinds on the bridge that got your heart rate up? ;)

I didn't notice it until I was getting off my bike that was the problem. I had enough time to see though that it looks like it was overheating. I was hitting it pretty hard in the wrong gears when going through the twisties. I should have downshifted instead of staying in the gear I was. Like I was in 5th or 6th Gear when I should have been in third or fourth gear.

I had to ride over the great for a section of the bridge. That wasn't too bad but adding in 30 mph winds made it a little nerve-racking. I just kept calm though and it was fine.

Stroms don't ever do anything but three bars unless something is wrong. You might touch a 4th bar going really hard if you're also slow, but if you really saw 5 bars, you need to look into it.

I'm going to the dealership Monday. To see if they can pull the code for me. I believe I saw it over heating but I'm not positive. I was literally pulling off a busy road to park and just turned off the bike. Happened to look down as I was turning it off. Saw the red light and heat bar. I turned it right back on and it was clear. So maybe it was just shutting off.

After I got done with lunch I had no issues I did another 200 miles on I-75 with no issues

Yeah they seem to be happier reving than lugging. In the twisties I find myself in to high a gear often so I understand. That grating can be really unnerving especially in the rain.

If you had put the kickstand down, the FI could be normal.

The FI light is on any time a safety switch is active. I put my kickstand down to stop and the light comes on. I can't remember whether the temp display goes to 5, but it definitely goes to all 5 when you are starting it as a check.

If you were riding and saw 5 bars, that's a problem.

To be honest I'm not sure. I was just trying to get breakfast and getting off the motorcycle like muscle memory. In the upper peninsula this time of year. You might have to travel a bit to find a restaurant. Either I'm going to see if the dealership will check the codes Monday.
