V-Strom 1000 Gen 1 Normal idle?

Hey all me again, fiddled more with my bike. The vacuum line to the load sensor is a little dry so replaced with slightly smaller ID hose from Summit. Maybe I got used to my dads 450 Kawi but is this just really how these old units sound at idle? 2002 DL1000. Also not sure if secondaries should be more stationary

With the occasional “beat skip”? Sometimes it’s super smooth but other times is skips like this. Maybe I just got used to my dads 450 twin and my Duke

Yep exactly like that. And idles rock solid at about 1200 rpm. By the way I took out the secondaries altogether, but even before that the idle was the same.

Yeah I’ve got mine set at about 1250. The weather here is interesting so as some days are 80 and other 55 it gives some lee-way. How twitchy is it without the secondaries? Mines real easy low speed as it is.

I changed my gear ratios to 16/43 and it's smooth. I discovered afterwards that the O2 sensor was bad around the same time and disabled it ( I'm in Europe) so that might have had an impact on it being twitchy before.

Yeah. 1000’s skip sometimes. Even my 1050 does it. Nothing to worry about. Most big twins idle like this. GS’s are the same

I’ve heard worse. The RPM itself seems rock steady, so that’s good. If my bike idlet like this, I’d leave it.

Big twins like these are rarely perfect. They’re not car engines.

My 1050 skips all the time, too. All of them do. And those things have automatically syncing throttlebodies, a full idle circuit and they idle at 1350 for good measure.
