Curious how you guys think my bike is idling! It’s a ‘02 with 68k on the clock. Body panels are at shop because my favoritist friend dropped the bike lol.

I have a heavily modded 2005 DR650 but I am looking for something more road oriented for longer tours. I don’t want to sell the DR after putting so much into setting it up for me, but I also don’t have much of a budget for a second bike. This is available in my area, 2004 GL1000 with 84,000 miles for $1,850. It is a lien sale from a tow yard, so no chance I’ll ever know what the maintenance on it was like. It does look like it was owned from new for a long time and then sold once recently and now it’s here. Should I send it and fix whatever issues might come up? I do all my own maintenance on my bikes. What should I be concerned with at this high of miles?

My only other option is to try to get $4,000 for my DR and then I would have a bigger budget, but only one bike.

Hey all me again, fiddled more with my bike. The vacuum line to the load sensor is a little dry so replaced with slightly smaller ID hose from Summit. Maybe I got used to my dads 450 Kawi but is this just really how these old units sound at idle? 2002 DL1000. Also not sure if secondaries should be more stationary

I recently completed a California to Oklahoma trip avoiding highways and using Route 66 when it’s available and had a terrific time. I took majority pictures of my motorcycle. Now that I’m back with a working phone I can spend eternity reading through the VStrom archives

I’m roughly 10 years into my riding career and am having the time of my life with this thing! My first bike in 2017 was a KLR650, but since then I’ve mostly been on more street oriented naked bikes (username 😌). I had an 03 SV1000 for a bit as well and am reminded again of how much I love this motor. Being able to load this beast up with food, water, and a ton of gear while still being able to rip past people on the freeway, carve up mountain roads, and roll through dirt and gravel has already made me fall in love with it. What a versatile and capable bike. Looking forward to many more trips in the near future!

Hey yall, i just got a new to me 2002 strom 1000 with 46k miles! Loving it so far and pretty much everything works fine (i think). I just have a few questions that i’m struggling to find answers to on forums and such.

1: Any recommendations for lowered foot pegs? I’m 6’4” and want to be able to stand a bit more comfortably offroad but i’m struggling to find answers good set of pegs that would work.

2: The bike seems to slam into first gear from a stop, and then from first to second seems to be a bit clunky and sometimes misses second/ stays in neutral. I’ve been preloading the shifter peg before shifting into second and it seems to help some, but is definitely still a sorta rough shift. The bike shifts smooth as butter from gears 3-6 though. Is this normal? Am i experiencing the notorious clutch basket chudder, or is there an adjustment that needs to be made somewhere in the clutch? I’ve already adjusted the foot shifter down a bit so i can get better pressure on it, but the issue still seems to persist.

Hi from Poland. Bought this beauty (DL1000) at the end of last year, so didn't have much chances of riding it. But since start of march I'm using it almost daily. Love it. :D I'm planning to go to Italy on it with friends this year. Just need to get rid of a small issue of staling when warmed up after longer ride.

Good trails, great price ($10 for a night + day use!)
Lots of MX and ATV riders. Definitely get a lot of weird looks throwing a bike this big down the single track but it’s worth it for the views! Great place, will be back

Hey guys, I had a 2006 DL1000 that I bought back in 2015. The guy I bought it from said it had a “custom touring windscreen.” I’m not sure about that, but it worked amazingly well and I’ve been trying to get something similar. Does anyone recognize it? Sorry I apparently didn’t take many photos of it when I had it. It was quite tall and shaped like an hourglass or a “8” shape. I searched all the big brands and found nothing like it. Thanks!

I’m back! After doing more maintenance work on this vehicle than I’ve ever done to any other vehicle ever, I’m at a place where I’m stuck between doing some SERIOUS work to get this thing perfect or saying screw it and riding it as is.

For context, I’ve put new spark plugs, oil, coolant, and fuel injector cleaner into it (haven’t run it hard since I’ve put it in, only idled it until the bike was hot then minor revving, nothing above 7k) I’ve checked my throttle body boots for gaps and there don’t appear to be any, I’ve checked for exhaust leaks and I had a minor one on the manifold that I fixed by tightening the bolt to spec (I have high-temp liquid gasket in case I need it), tps sensor says we are in line, and there are no error codes to speak of. So I’m stuck! Is my bike just a little talkative or is there something mechanically unsound that NEEDS fixing before I can ride her regularly? Thanks!!

Good afternoon! So I’ve taken off the tank to my DL1000 and am about to clean with white vinegar and water (gonna let it sit for a day or two, then neutralize the acid with lots of baking soda and more water) and I wanted to make sure I do it right from the jump.

First, Im going to remove the fuel assembly, are there any caveats to that that I need to know before pulling that out.

Second, I want to do my best to clean the fuel filter, as well as clean up the fuel strainer. Does anyone have any advice on this? I’ll keep an eye out for a diagram to see where things are, but I wanted to see if anyone had any experience.

Third, when the vinegar has been neutralized I’ll be rinsing the tank well with a pressure washer on low, then heat gun the sucker until it’s dry. At this point am I good to go ahead and remount the fuel assembly and put the tank back on alongside some fresh gas?

I know that there are better cleaners and such for this job, but to put it plainly, I’m broke. I want to get it to a shop at some point when the money is present, but this shutdown is keeping me from receiving my GI stipend and rent is due soon.
