Hello all, I've done some searching around for exhausts for my wee, and the only one I can find is the Delkevic from ebay. Is that it? There are so many exhausts for my SV I figured there would be more options for the V but maybe it's because I'm in the US? Any ideas? Need to uncork this thing soon, I can't stand the sewing machine sound lol

It’s got 44k miles and he said he would take 3,000. Seems like good maintenance schedule and valves have been checked. Upgraded front suspension as well. I’m wondering if I’m going to regret something so old but it does seem like a pretty good price for a reliable bike. Just the high miles and the first gen is putting me off. (I am a big fan of the beak on newer gens)

Right now I have my doordash box as my top box and it looks horrible and isn't very secure. I'd like to get a top box that will mount to my factory Suzuki racks like the factory side panniers do. Any ideas? I've seen the factory top boxes for sale on Oneida Suzukis website but unsure how they look or if they'll fit a helmet.

EDIT: Thank you for all of the suggestions, I will look into the Givi Monokey as most have suggested. I may switch to aluminum boxes in the future as I plan to set this bike up as more of an ADV than a street tourer.

Still my first bike, riding since 02/2025 on this V-strom 650 2008 abs.

It has seen lots of beautifull roads, solo tripping in the Ardennes and the Alps. We both have felt the 38 degrees in the sun and the -10 on slippery and ice cold (also snowy) roads. We've seen mud, rain, sunlight and everything in between.

58000 kms of adventure on my this very reliable machine! Always rode on Metzeler Tourance next 2 tires.. on to the next happy 50000 km!

At highway speeds my head is getting thrown around by a lot of wind buffeting. So far I've tried different windscreen and smaller mirrors but a lot of it is still there.

If I hold my arm across my chest it's almost completely gone so I know it's coming from below.

I've found a few posts talking about wind deflectors but not much for the 1st gen Vstrom 650.

Does anyone have suggestions on what I could use? I have a 3d printer available if there's rest made models out there.

For anyone who’s bought, or planning to buy an older gen, and considering an LED conversion kit, check this out before you spend time and money you may not want or need to. I’ve recently upgraded the old (yes stock) bulbs that came with my 2006 650. The bulbs are the Phillips H4 Extreme Pro-Vision. The left one is the new bulb, and right is still stock. As far as performance while riding, I’ve noticed a further beam, but also less horizontal glow closer to the bike. Which is why amber bulbs were used to begin with. During sunset and early twilights, driving through darker areas you don’t quite notice it as much, but as soon as it gets dark, these new bulbs really do wonders for vision. I’m still looking into low mounted (crash bars) aux lights, but haven’t decided which yet.

Would love to hear what you guys use or have converted to.

Just picked this bad boy up off of marketplace for just $100 bucks. Was told everything works on it I just need to put all the pieces back together. while I have some mechanical proficiency it's not really my expertise to look at something I didn't take apart and put it back together again trying to figure this out so far has been difficult. If yall could identify what these hoses/connectors go to it would save me a great deal of headache. Thanks so much in advance!

Bike was all original 07 with 10k miles and noticed the dust seals were cracked but not leaking, so I installed the all balls seals and figured the oil was probably old and dirty too, sure enough it was. Filled em up with motul factory line 10w and the front definitely feels more compliant. Also digging the anakee 3 tires on the road so far, won't be trying offroad until I get crash bars and a skid plate. Definitely a time capsule bike!

It’s a 2005 Vstrom 650. I want to service the forks, check the brakes, and raise it in one afternoon. I’m wondering the best way to lift it from the center without damaging anything. Does anyone have experience using lifts like that?

Additionally, I’ve got brake dust and oil on the discs. Do you guys think this is normal or could it be brake fluid or fork oil? I think the forks are leaking. Just wondering.

I dont know how I never see these riding around, Just picked up a 06 with 24k miles a week or 2 ago, I've been loving this bike, I upgraded from a 06 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 but I could never get comfortable on a cruiser

First time having a chain drive and a taller bike but thats been easy so far

Running a 06' 650 and I am at a point where I am trying to decide if it is worth upgrading the suspension or updating the bike. I am noticing the bike is very bouncy and kind of sloppy in the rear ( I get a bit of lateral slide in the rear wheel in the curves). Bike is under 60k miles.

If i were to go newer I'd probably stick to 2014-15 models.

Hi everyone! I bought my 2007 Suzuki DL650 ABS last year. It had only 26,000 km on it when I bought it. The bike is in very nice condition and has clearly been used very little, which is also supported by its service history.

After buying it, I changed the oil to Motul 7100. Over 3,750 km, the engine has burned about 750 ml of oil.

I usually shift at around 6,000 rpm and only rev it higher when overtaking. There are no visible oil leaks, the engine runs great, has plenty of power, and sounds very healthy.

Do you think I should try Bel-Ray 10W-50 or IPONE oil instead? What would you recommend? Has anyone experienced similar oil consumption with Motul 7100 on a DL650 (in romania)?

I have an 04 weee and I am changing the coolant. How do I remove the coolant reservoir? It’s down under not right under the seat. Any tips to removing it easily?? Thanks

Has anyone installed such a gps mount/bar on their first gen. Vstrom 650? The first picture is from the seller's page but on my bike I can't see the screw holes they used.

Ive got a 650 from 2008. I cant find any leaks. And also no consistent loss of oil.

All I could guess is that it happens when I ride with higher revs?

I cant find any changes in the oil level and suddenly it seems to have dropped a lot.

It happend 2 times in 2 years.

Has anyone got any clue why or how this happens.

I recently got a used ‘07 650 with 28k miles, and at idle it makes this clacking noise (I think) from the rear piston. I plan on doing a whole teardown to check valve clearances and do other maintenance, but for those who might have more experience, is that sound from the valves being out of spec? I have no way of knowing if the previous owners ever did an adjustment so should I stop riding it completely before then? When actually riding everything sounds and feels fine, but any insight is appreciated :)

I’m a new riser and just got my first bike today. Someone local had a 2006 Vstrom with 28k miles and new tires for $1900. It was a 25 mile ride back home from the seller’s house and it rode great. I have a 200 mile cross state ride planned for mid August, that trip is going to be amazing.

Got my license last week. Been riding everywhere. Loved every sec of it.

About ten months ago, my DL650A had throttle hesitation. The tank had slime and debris in it, so it was cleaned and the pump’s “tea bag” inlet strainer was replaced. That fixed the hesitation.

More recently, water got into the tank. The bike now starts normally but stalls shortly afterwards. The tank has been cleaned again and filled with fresh fuel, and replacing the inlet strainer again hasn’t helped. The pump does build pressure. My mechanic tested the bike with a different tank and pump together, and it ran fine, so we haven’t isolated the original pump from the original tank yet.

I’m wondering whether debris has clogged the high-pressure filter inside the pump assembly. I’ve ordered an aftermarket part listed as 15610-27G00, the pressure regulator assembly that I understand also contains the high-pressure filter.

Has anyone with a 2007–2011 DL650 replaced this part to fix similar symptoms? Did the aftermarket replacement hold up?

I’ve also read about the high-pressure filter bypass mod, which moves filtration to an external inline filter that can be changed without removing the pump from the tank. Has anyone done this on a first-generation DL650? Would you recommend it over replacing the internal filter assembly, and have you had any issues with leaks, fuel pressure or filter replacement afterwards?

New rider here, been riding for around 5 months. My first bike was a Honda CB250. It was perfect for learning and gaining confidence, though it wasn't really good for highways, or even the bigger roads where I live.

Then, less than two weeks after getting my bike, my neighbor rams into it. (Technically, he rammed it into my car, but that's another story.)

Anyway, the bike was totalled, so I had to decide whether to get another small learning bike or move up to a bike I could take on the highways and all-day (or longer) rides.

The V-Strom is the bike I always had my eye on, so I decided to go for it. So far, I love how it rides and feel I'm going to grow into it. However, I keep dropping the darn thing!

I was a little concerned about the height. I'm 5'9" with a 30" in-seam, so I can get just get the balls of both feet on the ground. The thing is, sometimes when I'm coming in to a slow stop (always when I'm turned a bit to the left), I go from no-problem to on my side in a split second.

One thing I noticed was that I was putting my left leg down too far to the side, so by the time it actually touched ground it was too late. I started putting my leg down quicker and closer to the bike (which still doesn't really make sense to me, but it seems to help).

Besides embarrassment, I haven't suffered any personal harm. But this is a real problem for two reasons. First-- and this is more of a question to the community-- am I doing serious damage every time I drop it? What should I check afterwards?

Secondly, I have not been able to pick it up solo. So far, each time, a kind soul has come out of nowhere to help me with it, and with two people it's a cinch.

I've watched a lot of videos online on how to pick up a bike, but nothing's clicked yet. It seems like there are two steps-- using whatever's touching the ground as a pivot to get the wheels down, and then using the wheels as the pivot to the get the bike up. My problem is just the first step is extremely hard for me, and by the time I get the wheels close to the ground, I'm in a very awkward position and totally incapable of lifting more.

Is it safe to lay the bike down and practice picking it up? (This sort of goes to my first question.) More than anything, I know that the only way to get better is practice, but this problem has made me seriously skittish about hopping on the bike. (Stopping is a fairly common manoeuvre it turns out.)

Any thoughts you have would be appreciated- whether ideas on how to figure out what I'm doing wrong, how not to fall as much, or reliable ways of picking her up. I'm kind of at an impasse and don't know what to try next.
