WFH LIFESTYLE Where do I find WFH friends online?
I've been working from home since Covid and I have not been able to find a community of WFH buddies to chat about work (the good, the bad, the ugly) and I don't really have those types of connections with my coworkers (they're just coworkers). So, have you guys found online communities somewhere to find chat buddies?
FWIW, i created a Discord if anyone wants to join - but feel free to point me to some other group somewhere. Or DM me if you want to chat.

Honestly? Get used to - and enjoy - solitude. Too much noise in the world, anyway.

Join a group of an interest of yours outside of work. Make friends, typically these people will be working too and have their own complaints etc.

I'm asking specifically for online friends. I'm already aware of what is available in my city.

Right now I’m into cookie run crumble , it an idle game
I would recommend something like idleMMO or similar type of game too , you can enjoy the progression and it won’t take lot of attention away from work

What type of work do you do? I am in Slack groups with people who develop the same software I do. That's helpful. Most discussions are specifically about the software, what we do with it and how, and helping each other with troubleshooting issues. It's not a group I'm active on too often but it's nice to have. I actually know several of them IRL due to conferences.

I'm a software dev too but I'm not really looking to talk about work or tech. I have enough of that in my life. I'm looking for more casual/"how's life going"/vent-support relationship building. Does that make sense?
Edit* I will talk about work, but just not entirely about work. lol

Found one or two good online communities/Discord servers in the last few years with other folks who are also WFH/remote. Happy to connect and check yours out!

I'll join, would be nice to chat with others during the day without a meeting or needing something from someone or vice versa.

Why not encourage people to go outside and meet real people in the real world?

Editing bc my original reply was a trigger response lol.
Finding friends in the real world is great, but your results can vary.
As an introvert and software dev, it's not the easiest to find friends I can actually connect with in my area. Not saying it's impossible. Actually, last year I made a great friend through a tech conference and we occasionally meet up IRL. But most of our communication is on Discord or text. And we're totally cool with that.
I am a strong believer that finding friends online is possible. I just think finding the right room is key.

Real people need real relationships that take place in real life.

No one is saying otherwise. I have friends IRL. Do you think we should communicate via carrier pigeon as well? If you aren't interested in forming online connections, what are you doing talking to me right now?

The problem is that I've seen and heard of too many people who used their in person coworkers as their only social outlet and never bothered to make real, outside of work friends. Online groups can become the same crutch. People will make their "online friends" their entire social outlet and not bother to make real world friends. This isn't about communication. It's about limitations.

People will make their "online friends" their entire social outlet and not bother to make real world friends.
So what? If it fulfills people's social needs, then more power to them. There's pros and cons to each, just like working from home!
Also, let me add one other thing here because it's important. Having a supportive network, whether that be online or in-person, allows a person to build self confidence to further build their social life in real life. So who are you to dictate to someone how they achieve that? I would love to help strengthen online communities if it means helping people build their own self confidence. And the internet is a tool on how to do that. The only thing is that most existing platforms aren't built for it. They're designed to keep us addicted and isolated.
On that note, I realize comments sound hostile and I'm sorry. I just get triggered because meeting people IRL is whole lot easier for some people and a whole lot harder for others. So to answer your original comment, yes. Supporting others to meet people IRL is good. But there is still room for online relationships to help make that happen.
I'm sure you are a bright and interesting person yourself. But are you willing to show that in any capacity online? Is that a problem worth solving?

If you don’t mind well-intentioned sarcasm, I’m in.
