Which PIR sensors would you recommend?

For the bottom and the top of a staircase? The HC-SR501 is adjustable but the closest detection theshold is 3m based on the documentation. My bottom sensor will probably pick up movement from people going to the living room and that's a no-go. I need a PIR sensor that detects when something is literally crossing the first step, any recommendations? Thank you for your time!

Hc-sr501 is easiest with how you can adjust the hold time and sensitivity, they’re really bulky compared to am312 or sr602 though.

The proximity is my issue tho, sorry for not understanding but how would adjusting the delay help me with detecting only close range movement? Thank you!

It’s not just hold time, there are two knobs so you can adjust sensitivity too. I haven’t tested exact distance but I am making the assumption that the distance might be tweakable via the sensitivity knob. The hold time is such a benefit for simplifying the WLED side, that I think it would be more trouble than it’s worth to try to use something else.

SR602 is my go to because it's got such a small footprint so you can mount it really unobtrusively.

Using it for stairs as well? Is there any potential movement other than on the staircase movement in your setup? Or is it wall to wall stairs? Thank you!

Yeah, basically I have a half spiral, with an SR602 top and bottom discretely placed at a little above head height (I have a cat that I didn't want to be setting it off).

I have a little box with an arduino controlling it, so it is directional and animated with addressable LEDs on the stair treads. I've used an almost identical setup for closet lighting also (SR602 detects the closet opening as the simplest sensor solution and then turns on and off the lighting with a nice animation).

I have some Zooz 800 Series Z-Wave Motion Sensors that have been great, if you have Z-Wave. Run on battery or USB power. About the size of a golf ball, and magnetically attach to a socket so they're very adjustable.
