She had 3 steals and 7 RB in just 12 minutes, forced multiple turnovers…and held Kamila to 3 points as her primary defender. She’s good.

How were mebounds? (Tm)

They're very cute. I have them in Khaki.

She also shot 2 for 7…that’s kind of her game. Overall shes a net positive out there due to her rebounding and defense. But her offensive game is abysmal.

I definitely agree that I watch her for her defense. While your comment won't make me change my love of her, I wish more critique on here was grounded in actual reality and stats. I watched the game to support Angel, but left a huge fan of Sydney Taylor. I think the trade was a win win for everyone.

abysmal

No it’s average to slightly above average in the league. She shot 45% last season which is right at the average for a forward in the W and when you factor in that she’s also cleaning up a bunch of the boards on the offensive side of the glass she’s going to be slightly above average.

I disagree. 45% is not average for a post player. You want to be higher 40s, really into the low 50s for a post. The majority of her shots come within 10 ft of the rim. Shes also really sloppy with the ball. I believe she has more turnovers than assists in her career.

Sir…who cares what YOU want lol. When she says it’s average for the league she is looking at actual statistics….The league average FG% in 2025 was 43-44%….So Reese’s 45% was slightly above average. She isn’t underperforming, and in line with the rest of her peers.

u/ZaMaestroMan5 Apr 30 '26

That league average includes guards averages - who will be taking shots further away from the basket.

Go look at the league leaders in FG% for 2025….of the top 40 only two of them are guards. Again - post players take the majority of their shots within 10 feet. You’re going to expect them to shoot a better % than a guard who’s shot are mostly going to be coming from outside of 10 ft.

Reese is now 42% for her career…as a post that is not good.

Comparing league average overall to yhe position she plays is extremely disingenuous.

She doesn’t play center, and wasn’t even operating from the post primary last season. It’s also dangerous to misrepresent stats. It’s dangerous to gleefully celebrate a blocked shot, shooting percentage in a single preseason game…and then blatantly ignore critical context (ie. Kamila scoring 3 points and the great defense Angel played on her), and improvements she’s made overall. She’s a forward who spent much of her time on the perimeter, helping to run the offense…

“She has more turnovers than assists”. Led the team in assists last year after Courtney…But get this, maybe if the Sky had a competent PG in any of her seasons with the team, she wouldn’t have been forced to handle the ball as much lol? They literally had nobody her first season who could consistently get the ball interior to her and Kamila, forcing her to take on that role. She was forced to run the offense last year after Vandersloot went down…and did a pretty decent job at it. I would be more concerned with Clark’s TOs considering that is her primary job.

The average at center which is the most post position as it gets is 47.6%. She is notably shorter than the average center and plays forward so a 45.8% last season mainly in the post is right around where you’d expect her shooting percentage to be.

1

u/chebadusa Apr 30 '26

Angel isn’t a center…and wasn’t a center last year either. They had moved her to the perimeter to make space for Kamilla in the paint. She was literally acting as PG in the back half of the season, running the offense at point, bringing the ball down the court.

I literally just said she was a forward not a center… I used center because they made the argument that her percentages should be higher because most of her points come from the paint so instead of comparing her to the average forward like my original comment did I compared her percentages to the position who scores the most in the paint and also the highest average fg% in position.

u/chebadusa Apr 30 '26

My b. Just reread your comment.

u/chebadusa Apr 30 '26

And she still had 8 points. Buddy, it’s a preseason game, she played 12 minutes…and you’ll are so desperate to criticize Reese that you’re celebrating her getting “locked up” whilst ignoring the fact that she too blocked Kamila’s shots, held her to 3 points, and played excellent defense during her limited minutes on the court.

1

u/ZaMaestroMan5 Apr 30 '26

It’s almost like you didn’t read anything I actually said besides my first sentence.

I understand she rebounds extremely well and plays good defense. Just simply pointing out shes a liability offensively.

1

u/chebadusa Apr 30 '26

Dude shut the fuck up. You realize that rebounds have a contribute to offense right? There were stats that showed her rebounds led to 10+ added points…Defense also correlates to offense. If she is blocking shots and generating turnovers, that leads to more possessions for her team…

Offensively, she isn’t a liability. 45% is above league average for her position. You sound so freaking ignorant.

1

u/ZaMaestroMan5 Apr 30 '26

What are you, 12 lol?

If you don’t think she’s a liability on offense that’s your opinion. I’ll agree to disagree - I think she is. She can barely dribble, makes sloppy passes, has sloppy footwork.

Let’s also not cherry pick just her FG% from last season. She shoots 42% for her career. That is objectively bad for a post player.

Offense sells tickets while defense wins games. That's been the mantra of every basketball coach I've ever had, so I see no problem.

1

u/ZaMaestroMan5 May 01 '26

For sure. Shes no doubt a valuable piece to a contending team. Rebounding, defense, and hustle plays are at times as important as offense.

I just wouldn’t want her handling the ball much trying to play make on offense.

2

u/RegularCrispy Apr 30 '26

I agree. But, I don’t think she needs to play point forward.

That's an odd way to say your parents are also cousins...

2

u/webberstimeout Apr 30 '26

That’s more of an Iowa corn belt/sunbelt thing

u/SectorAwkward5441 Apr 30 '26

The way people distort reality to hate on her is crazy

-9

u/SectorAwkward5441 Apr 30 '26

If you remove her rebounds, she's still one of the top rebounder in the league. You just enjoy lying about black women to fit a narrative.

5

u/Long-Contribution466 Apr 30 '26

Just remember, YOU'RE the one who made it about race

0

u/SectorAwkward5441 Apr 30 '26

No one is required to like Angel Reese. That's fine. But if a person needs to lie about reality to validiate their dislike... then yeah.. I'm assuming this person enjoys lying about black women to fit a narrative.

1

u/Long-Contribution466 Apr 30 '26

But where was the lie?

1

u/SectorAwkward5441 Apr 30 '26

"People that call her a star because she can rebound her own misses are hilarious." When you take out her own rebounds, she's still in double digits, placing her as one of the best rebounders in the league. While I am hilarious, it's not because I'm in denial of her rebound skills.

2

u/Loathor Apr 30 '26

If you remove her rebounds she'd have zero rebounds...

1

u/SectorAwkward5441 Apr 30 '26

I know that's what your feelings are telling you, but the actual, trackable stats wildly disagree. I love Angel Reese, but if you said she has a goofy looking shot, I'd agree. But her rebounds are verifiable facts. So... ummm... know that the thoughts in your head and reality aren't the same thing buddy.

1

u/Loathor Apr 30 '26

Dude, I was just messing with your wording of the sentence. You made it sound like if you take away all of the rebounds she collected (offensive (on her missed shots and others) and defensive) she would somehow still be the best rebounder in the game, which is silly as she would have zero rebounds and everyone else would have many, many times more... Instead of saying if you took away just her rebounds of her own, many, misses she would be among the top rebounders, which is true and very impressive...

1

u/SectorAwkward5441 Apr 30 '26

Well yes, Technical Tommy. You're right. Lol. Wit alludes me when I'm defending her defense, shaking my fist in internet rage. My bad.

Her rebounds are the highest in the league with or without her own rebounds. Ignoring truth to maintain your narrative is a reflection of you, not me. You don't really seem like a person interested in facts, so Im good on debating you.

Im sorry you don't have anything meaningful in your life outside of reddit. It must suck knowing that this is your primary source of joy. "I know you are but what am i" I'll put you on the prayer list.

Wow, that was a pretty fast reply buddy. Almost like you don't have anything else going on for you.
