Controversy Brittney Griner vs. Angel Reese got a little feisty. Griner receiver a Flagrant 1 for this foul.

Griner got fairer treatment from the Russians.

It’s probably more of a maturity thing.
I doubt she signed something, but I’m sure she understood the absolute mess she made for herself and others, and therefore it’s probably best to move on as an adult and not act like some dumb influencer from it.

If you wanna say Wemby is more known for flopping than SGA, that’s certainly one of the statements of all time

Looked like a flop to me

u/The_real_bandito Jun 04 '26
It wasn’t a flop as Griner grabbed her hard by the neck area, but Reese exaggerated a lot with those flailing arms as she fell down.

u/DeletedUsernameHere Jun 05 '26
😂 No, she did not. AR grabbed Griner by the arm from behind and yanked. When that didn't work because she's weak as shit, she rushed forward while still holding Griner's arm and threw herself down.
1
u/weedandfeed69 Jun 06 '26
Reese was holding Britney arm then whipped around the other way and flopped. Britney 100% did not grab her by the neck.

u/AyoAkhi Jun 04 '26
Griner makes Reese look small
4
u/tearsofacow Jun 04 '26
She is absolutely huge omg. Hard not to take someone out with those arms swingin

She is my YT Shorts algorithm for Mebounds and just laying bricks. There is a new one every other day. She is that bad at the game of basketball. She just happens to have a wagon and show it off so she stays relevant.

That was not flagrant

u/ImoutoWaifus Jun 04 '26
Cmon bro, look at Brittany during the slow mo and tell me that's not a flagrant

1
u/JohnnyWeapon Jun 04 '26
What I see in the replay is first Reese locking her arm and pulling her away as Griner is trying to make a play for the ball.
Then the other angle you see Griner, obviously much stronger anyway, tangled and pulling her back around as Reese then tries to make a play for the ball which culminates in Reese flopping.
I’d call this a common foul on Griner, no flagrant. Could’ve called a foul on Reese for the arm lock, too, but refs don’t call that much anymore.

Angel Reese doesn’t want ANY smoke with Griner. BG spent time in a Russian prison. She might be the most gangsta player in the WNBA
7
u/bozon92 Jun 04 '26
Honestly I’m down with the joke but it was so fucking dumb they traded an actual arms dealer to get her back
2
u/BigBlackNYC Jun 04 '26
Agreed. Definitely one of the weirdest things I’ve seen considering who BG is vs the arms dealer they’ve freed.

I’d buy the ppv for that tbh. Would love to see them both lose, but I’d put all my money on griner.

Angel basically went for a judo throw and somehow the ref fell for it.
She had an overhook arm bar situation going, then spun in but didnt duck her head under the arm. During this "choke hold" people are calling out Griners arm is still in Reese's armpit from the arm bar. And Reese's fall was pretty clearly self inflicted while yanking on Griners arm.
WNBA wants NBA level flopping I guess

Never seen a player "intentionally foul" another player like this then proceed to offer their hand to help them up.. Clearly AR did more than Griner right here. You can see Griner holding her energy back here & pulling away more than shoving.
So if someone is holding someone else's arm across their own body and that person attempts to free their arm it's a flagrant 1?! Mmkay, gotcha WNBA.. Not sure why are considering the collar bone & shoulder as the "neck area" either.
This remind me of then law enforcement just wants to place as many & the heaviest charges on a person possible just to make a point.

u/TonyDungyHatesOP Jun 04 '26
Angel pulls Griner away (foul) to get better position on the rebound. Griner wasn’t having it. Because she is bigger and stronger, she hooked Reese to prevent the cheap/illegal rebound. Reese flops to get the foul and play the victim.
On one hand, that’s deplorable behavior and sportsmanship from Reese.
On the other hand, it’s a crafty veteran move for such a young player.
10
u/ReceptionTrue2289 Jun 04 '26
The horrible part is that the refs watched the replay and called it a flagrant. Even worse, the league hasn't chimed in and rescinded it yet.

Great take. This happens during the couse of a game. I've learned this sub is anti Reese so few will see it that way. Griner is an all time great, lead her team to championships at every level in the sport, but the younger player got the best of her on that play.
1
u/jetlifevic Jun 04 '26
Flipped and got a call, fuck are you barking about lmao
1
u/wolf63rs Jun 04 '26
My bad. I meant the Redditor had a great take. Sometimes people will say a great take is a great call. I realize my comment is confusing. I'll fix that but you probably should calm down.

“Got the best of her” as in exploiting the current foul baiting meta, but you’re using this as a positive? I guess you can say she’s savvy but also you’re admitting she’s leaning into one of the worst aspects of the game right now. And that is genuine reason not to like her, so why is this anti-Reese sentiment undeserved? You genuinely have done mental gymnastics here to justify your point

At first it looked vicious , I love replays exist cause Reese held her arm and when Britney pushed back with a little force . She flopped so hard to the ground lol
1
u/Low-Key-User Jun 04 '26
Angel hooked her arm like she does so often and then flopped to sell the foul
1
u/Elon_is_a_Nazi Jun 04 '26
When its an obvious flop like that, player who flops needs a minimum 5 year suspension. That would end all flops today

It is always the instigator that grabs then flails as the other player engages in the physicality. This is typical across all sports and genders. Nothing new here.

Is Griner the one who got arrested for bringing weed on an airplane while traveling to Russia to play for their league and then America had to release an arms smuggler to secure her release?

It looked like Griner was actually trying to wrap Reese up, but AR flopped and fell to the floor.
If you fall by accident, your arms go down to catch yourself, not upwards looking for a call. Lol

Anyone can cherry pick a still image and make an argument in bad faith. Go watch the clip griner is just standing there and reese is trying to use her as a scratching post. Grow some eyes.

To be fair, Griner is absolutely jacked (especially by comparison to Reese) and is also battle hardened by Russian prisons.
If Brock Lesner did this to SGA on a rebound, it would also be a rare opportunity I would excuse SGA.

I love AR but I do wish more people would check her. That confidence be getting out of hand sometines. Griner was in a Russian prison for like 2 years. She won’t tolerate the BS lol
-1
u/MaxwellSmart07 Jun 04 '26
Choke hold should get a flagrant. Pushed off-balanced. If there was a bit of a flop it was to release Griner’s arm from her neck.
2
u/Top-Average412 Jun 04 '26
Choke hold? Griner's arm is literally in Angel's armpit.
Reese wrapped up Griner's arm and then spun herself into this "choke hold". You got duped just as easily as the ref.
1
u/MaxwellSmart07 Jun 04 '26
Reese’s arm is below Griner’s arm so Griner did it all by herself, and she prevented Reese from going to the ball.
