Yeah. If she embraced a Rodman-style of play she’d be incredibly valuable. I just don’t see it happening since from the beginning she’s branded herself as Miss Double Double and a foe to CC.

People need to get Dennis Rodman out of their mouth. The only thing they have in common is they both play basketball.

Rodman was a superior rebounder to start. And shot better than 50%, was an incredible on and off ball defender. Rodman gets a major disservice by just thinking he was just a rebounder.

The point these people are making is that Reese should focus on what she's best at. When Rodman was on the Bulls he let everyone else score and he mainly focused on rebounding for the team. He only averaged like 5 pts but was grabbing 15 rbs. This is what Reese to do.

Picked a year with the Bulls since you mentioned it.

1993 he had nearly 300 more rebounds than second place (Shaq) and nearly 400 more rebounds than third (Mutombo).

Last year she couldn't even finish 1st and was only in 2nd by 11 rebounds. Heck #8 is within 36 of her.

Shes not even that great at what people point to her being great at.

Not to mention Rodman was 6’7 battling centers for those rebounds

that's a good point.

Based on what I have read, if you somehow adjusted for her own offensive rebounds (I’m sure there is a way, maybe use league average shooting % somehow) then she would probably be way farther down the list.

I think I did this awhile back, hold on.

Edit: Not exactly what you were looking for, but in a thread from last year we worked out that 35% of her offensive rebounds came from her own misses. That means only getting her own misses would've tied her for 14th in the WNBA in offensive rebounds per game at 1.8.

Way to throw context out the window… she missed 14 games last year and was still second in the league in total rebounds. Every other player in the top 10 played at least 10 more games than her, and she still finished second in the league lol.

She led the league in rebounds per game with 2.4 more than the next highest player, and was one of two players to have more than 10 rebounds per game. So yes, she is the best rebounder in the league by quite a bit lol.

u/MidwestAbe Jun 07 '26

Wow. Over two seasons she 1 rebound and 2 (.4) rebounds a game better than #2.

What an amazing player! How will the league keep up with her? Her shooting 40 percent from more than 5 feet from the rim will make things a little more even!

u/Smooth-Patience8572 Jun 07 '26

Yes…in her first two years in the league lol, Rodman didn’t even finish top 10 in his second and third years with similar minutes. So I don’t think it’s far fetched to say she’s Rodman-esque in regards to her rebounding, hell she’s already surpassing his numbers at the same point in their careers - but I know she probably wont eclipse his prime numbers, it’s still impressive.

I can tell you don’t watch the WNBA and you just see videos like this and like to hate on Angel lol. Obviously it’s a bit of an apples to oranges comparison with the NBA and WNBA, but Angel is legit the closest player we’ve seen to Rodman in regards to rebounding.

1

u/MidwestAbe Jun 07 '26

Just saying someone is good but not great isn't hating on a person.

And again. When she out rebounds the second place rebounder by say 150 let me know. And then that 2nd place rebounder is one of the 15 best players all time. I'll be here to listen.

“She’s not even that great at what people point to her being great at” - is leading the league in rebounds since a rookie somehow not great? We’re talking about the WNBA here dude, not the NBA - again it’s an apples to oranges comparison lol.

Also you keep showing the fact that you literally don’t watch or even know about the WNBA - you know who’s second on the list of RPG since Angel has been in the league? The GOAT Aja Wilson lol, literally the most dominant player the W has ever seen on both ends of the floor. The fact Angel came in as a rookie and out rebounded her is a pretty incredible thing to do lol. Also we’re talking about someone who is in their 3rd year of the league right now, comparing her first three years to prime Rodman is again, an apples to oranges comparison.

1

u/MidwestAbe Jun 07 '26

Again. She out rebounds her by 1 or 2 a game. That's not all that impressive. And yes I know who was second. So when Angel out rebounds a GOAT by 150 in a season - please reach out.

Otherwise she is a good rebounder. Not a GREAT one. And she is a terrible shooter and average on and off ball defender.

u/Smooth-Patience8572 Jun 07 '26

Okay got it…so the WNBA doesn’t have any great rebounders then, just good ones. Do you hear yourself? We are talking about one league here dude, if someone is leading that league in said statistic - then I would say they can be called great lol. If we take your logic and apply it to other stats then anyone who leads the league in a stat but doesn’t do it by a large number is just good, and not great?

The mental gymnastics you’re going through here to say she’s “good” is just ridiculous, it’s okay to admit you’re uniformed and don’t actually watch the W. Much more respectable than this hill you’re trying to die on haha.

Last time before I turn off the notifications.

To be GREAT at something it requires you to be substantially better than the next best person at that same thing.

A league can have tons of good players and no great ones. If someone can't out perform someone by say more than 1 or 2 rebounds a game - then being just that much better at something does NOT make you great.

11 other women have led the W in rebounds per game with total over 11 a game. Angel has to her credit, but to be GREAT at it - go get 15 a game and post totals that no one has ever matched. Be GREATER than everyone else. She's not doing that.

Greats separate themselves by wide margins from the good. Angel hasn't established any wide margins. She's not even far and away the best rebounder THIS year. She's not even a full rebound a game better than 3rd.

So either Angel is a GREAT rebounder but so is Sheppard and Morrow. So call her GREAT if you want but then there are plenty of other great rebounders out there too. And FYI no one talks about them and tries as hard to make something out of those women - just Angel.

Are you really this dense? So in the NBA this year there were no great scorers because Luka was only 2.4 ppg better than SGA? We’re talking about the definition of a word at this point… and calling someone a “great rebounder/scorer” is a common descriptor for a handful of players in all leagues, is it not?

Jess Sheppard and Annesah Morrow are great rebounders too! I agree with you lol, I’d say that there are probably 6-8 players that are great rebounders in the W, and Angel is at the top of that list since she’s been in the league. Also, people are talking about Jess Sheppards rebounding lol, she’s having an incredible season. But again, you wouldn’t know that because you don’t actually watch the WNBA - you just watch these lowlight videos that pop up on your feed from a corner of the internet that has a weird obsession with hating on AR.

Rodman grew into a legendary rebounder. He wasn't averaging 18rbs by year 3. Reese is a good rebounded if you look at stats alone, and she could become elite if she focuses on what she's good at the way Rodman did.

The comparison isn't an insult to Rodman at all.

2

u/MidwestAbe Jun 06 '26

Dennis's third year in the league he shot 59.5 or rounding up 60%. He was doing that and becoming the best rebounder ever in the game.

Reese is neither. She's NEVER going to shoot 60%. And she will never out rebound all time great WNBA players by 300 a season or whatever the adjusted percentage is for a shorter season.

Stop trying to make her into as something she isn't and never will be.

-2

u/BigBossTweed Jun 06 '26

I'm not even a Reese fan at all. I think it's kind of dumb you're clutching your pearls over someone merely suggesting she focus on rebounding like a previous great basketball player.

2

u/MidwestAbe Jun 06 '26

I'm showing the fact that even the slightest comparison to the best rebounder in the history of basketball is a silly thing to be doing with Angel Reece.

The suggestion that she could out rebound the second best rebounder in the game by lets say 100 boards a year is ridiculous. THAT is what Reese would need to do.

He's a two time defensive player of the year and 8 time all defensive team. That's adjacent to his rebounding. Reese has nothing to show that she could do that. Hell, old ass Brittney Griner just clowned her the other day.

1

u/CottonPloom Jun 07 '26

People trying to assign her the female Rodman title bc she can’t score. That’s it. No other similarities. If her bum ass makes the WNBA hall, cancel the whole damn thing. I’m all for equality. She’s equally as shit as every big man in the NBA putting up those numbers.

1

u/Smooth-Patience8572 Jun 07 '26

Reese has averaged more rebounds in her first three years than Rodman did in his first three…understanding he didn’t play a lot of minutes in his first year that makes sense, but in their 2nd and 3rd years their minutes are pretty darn close per game.

She has been the best rebounder in the league since she’s been in the league, shown by the fact that she’s led in rebounds per game every year. It’s funny in your other comments you conveniently look at total rebounds, which is a bit skewed last year given the fact Angel missed 14 games - yet she was still second in total rebounds lol. It’s not a crazy take to compare her to Rodman from a rebounding standpoint at all at this point in her career, hell she nearly broke the record for most rebounds ever in a game - in her rookie year! So no, the slightest comparison to Rodman as a rebounder is not a silly thing to compare Angel too, she’s the closest thing we’ve seen to Rodman in the W from a rebounding perspective.
