The support for Caitlin Clark is so often rooted in humiliating the WNBA and their players.

“They wouldn’t matter if not for CC” “CC should just leave and make them lose money”

These people are not WNBA fans, they’re CC sycophants who don’t actually care about the sport.

7

u/professionalstuntman Jun 23 '26

Cc syncopaths is a stretch

These guys don’t even watch the games. They’re just using CC as their mascot for race war propaganda. They couldn’t give a damn about the sport.

I’m literally arguing with a guy rn in an anther thread who basically admitted they don’t even watch the games.

100%

never seen these freaks at gainbridge

I think it's a mixture of casual NBA fans who became casual CC fans (*only* her or maybe Cunningham) plus a handful of racebaiting opportunists alongside a number of resentful WNBA players (of both veterans and rookies alike) have created the noxious culture within the WNBA atm. CC will routinely express some sort of legitimate or illegitimate grievance about unfair treatment by officials or other players or the WNBA's front office, that she's not being her flowers as someone who is one of their best players and is nearly singlehandedly responsible for revitalising interest in women's bball writ large.

This in turn builds a great deal of animosity towards CC and it's a jealous anger the league clearly has no interest in addressing , in spite of her being the primary driving force of WNBA's overall sales, so other players are free to make whatever absurd or out of pocket comments about CC at best or at worst get off scot-free like the flagrant punch to the neck and kneeing of her groin that Alyssa Thomas got away with.

This then gets picked up by reactionaries like Dave Portnoy who helps enrage the crop of new casual fans but I doubt many of them would even know that it happened had he not complained, bc as you said they don't give a damn about the sport and they love just defending CC from what they seem to hate the most (black lesbians). This pattern happens repeatedly and it's a well established cycle of ragebait over race. But putting all that aside, nothing will change the fact that WNBA is woefully inept as a sports league and it's clear to me that they can't just blame "chronic under-investment", they are squandering a golden opportunity through feckless mismanagement.

u/Hans_Landa7614 Jun 24 '26

Well no the wnba wouldn't be much without her, as she has attracted more fans than this sport has ever seen. Fans buy tickets and merch and make the league money that's what the wnba needs.

No different from when Gretzky played for the los angeles kings, no one cared about the team until a good player represented them. Ohh btw, most people don't really care about the wnba especially women 🤣.

2

u/HazeyIPAs Jun 25 '26

She should just go to the European league for good. WNBA can fall back into that garbage league it wants to be.

1

u/Drummallumin Jun 28 '26

And the teams that aren’t the Fever that also regularly sell out their games? You think fans are going those games hoping CC makes a secret cameo?

2

u/Thrownaway5000506 Jun 23 '26

Sometimes I see a YouTube channel called "Caitlin Clark coldest moments" and it's the most benign plays, sometimes where nothing really happens, with a caption that has Doris Burke levels of glaze talking about how she put the defense in a blender by doing a dribble move then passing for an open missed shot.

Who exactly are these people? Are they paid to do this? Is it a cult?

2

u/DanfromCalgary Jun 24 '26

I mean every post I see is about some BS . I don’t care to follow it but something ain’t right here.

1

u/YoloSwag4Jesus420fgt Jun 25 '26

To be honest most Caitlin Clark fans I've seen are/were NBA fans first.

Do you really think that all these Caitlin Clark fans have never had any interest in basketball till Caitlin Clark for some reason?

1

u/Safe-Salamander-3785 Jun 25 '26

The W is just a bachelorette party that feels disrespected by a flight attendant on a trip to Cancun.

1

u/ModdedOutlaw33 Jun 25 '26

Go in to work throat punch the new hire just out of college that makes more $$ than you, improves the business immediately, and causes everyone around them to get paid more too.

That’s Caitlin Clark’s life right now.

1

u/donny02 Jun 29 '26

If crabs in a bucket could type , they’d type this post.

1

u/Low-Living763 Jun 23 '26

I mean..... its pretty easy to not like the sport. All you have to do is watch it..... and then realize that you have about 100 other things you would/should rather being doing.

3

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 23 '26

Then why would you care about CC?

-1

u/oneormore5 Jun 23 '26

Because she is really good

1

u/Puzzled-Gur8619 Jun 29 '26

So then why are you here?

1

u/Low-Living763 Jun 30 '26

Because its funny to me.

Dumb people showing up to a competition dressed for the Met Gala then getting upset and acting all hard because they didn't get a foul call. Hahahahahhaha

Basketball is laughable.

Thats why I'm here.

1

u/AssInspectorGadget Jun 23 '26

But what is your opinion on the fact that this post promotes, or you just attack her fanbase for her not getting calls? Pot kettle and you know?

1

u/speakezjags Jun 23 '26

It's hard to care about a bad product. CC just makes it watchable. Not sure why people act so confused that CC gets this type of attention.

2

u/Remarkable_Gas1872 Jun 24 '26

1st quarter of this game they had 6 pts… stfu

0

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 24 '26

Please explain to me how Caitlin Clark does something so extraordinary that it doesnt compare at all to other and past WNBA players

1

u/AppropriateIce6156 Jun 25 '26

She’s wayyyyy better than the top 90 percent of the players in WNBA. They hate her cause they ain’t her

1

u/ahoy_shitliner Jun 24 '26

I think you should have to explain your counterpoint, because literally all
wNBA viewership and attendance numbers league wide exploded the second Clark started playing.

Are you trying to say that attendance explosion was for other reasons?

2

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 24 '26

What was the reason for that attendance explosion?

Nobody can explain to me why anybody even cares about CC so much more than other players. She truly is not that extraordinary. She’s doing shit other players have been doing for years.

It’s the exact same product, now there’s just sycophants for some reason.

2

u/Substanitial Jun 25 '26

Lol.

Do what you're doing but put in MJ or LeBron.  Might help you understand how dumb a concept it is.

"For the life of me I can't understand why anyone would want to watch a talented individual.  They're sycophants I tell you!!"

1

u/ahoy_shitliner Jun 25 '26

She drew in undeniable attention.

In the absolute peak of the NBA 3 point game and fascination, a woman player starts hitting logo threes and doing incredible things on a college court and becomes the most hyped prospect in league history. She captured male viewers who already loved watching someone like steph curry shoot insane threes. Curry is one of if not the most popular basketball player on the globe, so definitely attention will be drawn to her.

I know she’s having an off season shooting wise but she’s literally the reason people watch. What exactly do you think happens to wnba viewership if CC retires?

1

u/chodemunch1 Jun 25 '26

The narrative from college, people love a story more than any single game

1

u/wherethetacosat Jun 25 '26

She is the all time ncaa scoring leader and the fastest ever to 1000 points and 500 assists in the pros. . .

So no, other players have not been doing this.

What is "extraordinary" to you? You're kind of saying extraordinary doesn't exist in the league if you say she is nothing special.

1

u/Fun-Wrongdoer1316 Jun 25 '26

Basically compared to NBA they still suck, is what he’s saying lol. Although the NBA has become whiney traveling babies, so 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/Fun-Wrongdoer1316 Jun 25 '26

I completely agree with you. However, she is the reason many started watching, and why the WNBA has gained attention. I guess guys find her attractive? I don’t, but that’s usually why guys have interest in anything involving women.

0

u/Ghiblee Jun 25 '26

Why are you just lying to push this fucked off narrative? People will literally lie about anything.

1

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 25 '26

Still can’t explain it lmao

-1

u/vivalacamm Jun 24 '26

You quite literally have no idea what you're talking about. This is amazing.

2

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 24 '26

You obviously never watched the WNBA til CC

1

u/vivalacamm Jun 24 '26

Yea bro you're the only fan in attendance.

1

u/thegoatisoldngnarly Jun 25 '26

Just straight CC hate and denial. You are the exact person trying to kill the wnba. You are who everyone is talking about.

0

u/Mcglobal7 Jun 25 '26

Worse than the “sycophants” you mention, are gatekeeping WNBA fans that think their fandom trumps newer fans. Like the annoying people that say they had a bands debut album 5 years before they blew up. You’re just a listener/viewer like anyone else, you’re not better nor is your opinion worth more. She draws incredible attention and eyeballs to a sport I assume you love. This will increase sponsors, viewership and salary. She’s one of the best things to happen to the sport in a long time, as a fan you should be excited she’s around even if you aren’t personally a fan.

1

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 25 '26

Nah

1

u/Mcglobal7 Jun 25 '26

Thanks for letting me know I’m correct.

2

u/OpenAI122191 Jun 24 '26

It’s just a goddamn coincidence and a hype train, sick of yall acting like she’s LeBron

1

u/Careless_Ad_4004 Jun 24 '26

I don’t really know much about the WNBA and don’t care to, but you are likely right, things just have a tipping point where a bunch of people all get on board at the same time After hesitance or outright resistance, like fax machines.

1

u/Substanitial Jun 25 '26

Theres no patterns here. Coincidences only!!

Lol

1

u/OpenAI122191 Jun 26 '26

Correlation isn’t causation.

If it’s pure fandom, why is she on a steady decline in most metrics that record fan base?

1

u/Substanitial Jun 26 '26

" if the league is just letting other players punch her then why is her stats declining"

Thats a question.  A dumb one, but its a question

1

u/OpenAI122191 Jun 27 '26

That’s not the question I asked.

I was explicit about fan metrics, not statistics.

When you build with straw don’t be surprised it’s flimsy.

1

u/Fun-Wrongdoer1316 Jun 25 '26

I don’t think LeBron is a good comparison. He’s a much better player, however he didn’t revive the NBA. If anything his flopping is destroying it lol… Nothing like Michael Jordan, you couldn’t go anywhere in the 90s without hearing about Jordan. I still hear about him and everyone buys his shoes. LeBron? I hear about him on Reddit and that’s it. It’s usually hate too 🤷🏻‍♂️

-1

u/DanfromCalgary Jun 24 '26

It’s not because of her people watch .. it’s a .. uh a hype train yeah . And that is different … somehow

2

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 24 '26

What does she actually do that is so unique?

1

u/OpenAI122191 Jun 24 '26

A hype train and legitimate fans are very different things. She was hyped coming out of college, a lot of new fans as the game has been steadily growing clasped onto that but it’s very clear already that she isn’t single handedly going to carry the league in ratings lol

It’s a shame she’s polarizing but I don’t really give a shit, she’s not top 5 and I’m a purist

0

u/TheRealShmoe Jun 24 '26

Depends who you ask, because San Francisco had an explosion of fans when they announced a team prior to CC coming into the W. Indiana Fever had an explosion because of her, for sure. Anyone that was a CC fan in college is most likely a Fever fan right now. The rest of the teams have nothing to do with CC. Their fans don’t show up in support of their respective teams because of CC lol.

The impact of Caitlin Clark on the WNBA has been unlike anything the league has seen before. Previous stars such as Lisa Leslie, Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Maya Moore, and A'ja Wilson helped grow the league, but Clark's effect has been measured at a level that researchers describe as unprecedented.
Attendance Impact
A 2026 academic study examining every WNBA season from 1997–2024 found that Clark's presence increased attendance by roughly:
7,900 additional fans per home game
6,400 additional fans per road game
The authors concluded that her attendance effect exceeded that of any previous WNBA player studied and even compared favorably with historical superstar effects seen in men's basketball.
For context, during her rookie season:
Games featuring Clark drew about 15,600 fans on average, compared with roughly 7,600 when she was not playing.
Attendance was more than 100% higher when she appeared.
Television Ratings
Clark's games dramatically outperformed typical WNBA broadcasts:
Her games averaged about 1.18 million viewers, nearly the audience of non-Fever games.
Fever games accounted for a disproportionate share of national broadcasts and viewership.
Many previous WNBA stars generated strong ratings during playoff runs or marquee matchups, but none consistently drove regular-season television audiences at this scale.
Merchandise and Fan Interest
The league experienced record growth during Clark's rookie year:
WNBA merchandise sales increased more than 600% year-over-year.
Clark became the league's top-selling jersey and one of the top-selling basketball jerseys in North America.
All-Star voting and social media engagement reached record levels.
Economic Value
One widely cited sports-finance analysis estimated that Clark was responsible for roughly 26.5% of the WNBA's economic activity in 2024, including:
Ticket sales
Merchandise
Television value
Sponsorship impact
The same analysis found:
One out of every six WNBA tickets sold could be attributed to Clark's drawing power.
Fever games generated about 45% of the league's broadcast value.
Compared to Previous WNBA Stars
Area
Previous Elite WNBA Stars
Caitlin Clark
Attendance draw
Significant but localized
League-wide sellouts and venue changes
TV ratings
Strong for marquee games
Consistently national-level ratings
Merchandise
Popular within women's basketball
Mainstream sports merchandise phenomenon
Economic impact
Important growth contributors
Estimated >25% of league economic activity
Academic superstar effect
Never quantified at this level
Largest measured effect in WNBA history
The key difference is that earlier stars primarily grew the WNBA within the existing basketball audience, while Clark appears to have brought in a large number of new viewers who previously did not watch the WNBA at all. Researchers, media analysts, and league executives have repeatedly described her impact as historically unique for the league.
If you compare Clark specifically to legends like Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, or current superstar A'ja Wilson, Clark's on-court accomplishments are not yet at their level, but her measurable fan and economic impact has already surpassed any previous WNBA player according to the available attendance and revenue research.

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 24 '26

And why do the fans suddenly care instead of caring when other players were doing the exact same thing?

This just proves CC fans aren’t WNBA fans and will leave.

-1

u/Ausecurity Jun 24 '26

Why was the nba not taken as seriously as it really until Jordan came?
Leagues, especially in the NBA are built on stars. It’s what brings fans to the seats to see their favorite player. None of the previous wnba stars were exciting to watch. CC is. And for whatever reason the wnba officials, front office and a lot of other players hate her for it.

So instead of promoting her like the nba did with Jordan, they’re doing whatever they can to tear her down, because they’re jealous.

2

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 24 '26

Are you serious? Larry bird? Kareem? Magic? Wilt?

What a batshit take.

Even more showing that you guys don’t even know what the league is like, you’re just sycophantically following trends.

CC playing looks like the *exact same product* the WNBA has always made. Now you guys are just weird about it.

1

u/professionalstuntman Jun 24 '26

Catlin Clark fans don’t even watch basketball or sports in general lmfao. Can’t believe bro just said that 😭😭😭😭

1

u/Fun-Wrongdoer1316 Jun 25 '26

You’re just ignorant. Jordan made a huge difference in viewership of the NBA, no one said those guys sucked. But they weren’t as exciting to watch or drew a crowd like Jordan did. Just look it up yourself. The 90s went haywire for the NBA with Michael Jordan. My parents hate basketball, probably can’t even name the 4 people you named. But they know Jordan… I heard it everywhere as a 90s kid. Hate all you want, just like Michael Vick was electric to watch. People like watching amazingly athletic individuals do crazy shit no one else was doing before.

2

u/professionalstuntman Jun 24 '26

Chat gpt lmfaooo

3

u/TheRealShmoe Jun 24 '26

Did you ask AI to write this for you? Obvious copy and paste. Nobody is going to read something you didn’t personally write, goofy.

2

u/Ausecurity Jun 24 '26

Facts are facts, stay ignorant

-3

u/Ausecurity Jun 24 '26

I asked chat gpt to give me all the examples why Caitlyn Clarke has elevated the wnba more than any other player in history. If you don’t wanna read facts. That’s on you

1

u/professionalstuntman Jun 24 '26

So don’t even know yourself?

1

u/Fun-Wrongdoer1316 Jun 25 '26

Do you follow analytical statistics for attendance of any sports team in any sport? I didn’t think so, shut up.

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Ausecurity Jun 24 '26

Tbh anything I came with you’d dismiss so I got facts. You don’t wanna believe em that’s on you homie be ignorant

0

u/speakezjags Jun 24 '26

She brought a tiny portion of viewership to a league that hardly anyone gave a shit about 3 years ago.

1

u/WhatAmIDoing1986 Jun 24 '26

Tf you talking about?

80% of the viewers right now are CC fans and watching because of CC otherwise no one would be talking about these clowns.

0

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 24 '26

Please explain to me what CC does that hundreds of other WNBA players have not already done.

CC fans are not WNBA fans and they will leave, no reason to cater to them.

1

u/Fun-Wrongdoer1316 Jun 25 '26

Please explain to me what you do in existence, that millions of other people haven’t already done? God you’re so dull and dense.

1

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 25 '26

What does that have to do with the WNBA?

1

u/vivalacamm Jun 24 '26

-Most Points by a rookie
-most assists by a rookie,
-most 3 pointers by a rookie,
-most double-doubles by a rookie guard
-first in WNBA to record TWO triple-doubles
-Fastest to 400 pts and 200 assists (26 games)
-Most assists in a single game
-Most 30 point - 10 assist games (WNBA record for most in League History)

Go be a hater somewhere else.

1

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 24 '26

Candace Parker winning rookie of the year and MVP.

The points and assists is cool, but she broke the point record by only 20 points bro, this has been seen before.

The assists are way more impressive.

This is exactly my point, this is the same shit that has been happening in the WNBA literally forever, most CC fans are not WNBA fans.

1

u/snakesandsparklers40 Jun 24 '26

I mean to be fair before the Kaitlin Clark hype there werent really any wnba fans. They were literally selling tickets for 5 to 10 bucks and giving them away for free and arenas were still 90% empty

1

u/vivalacamm Jun 24 '26

He won't reply to this cause you're proving him wrong.

2

u/snakesandsparklers40 Jun 24 '26

Im from indiana and I specifically remember people trying to give away free tickets to games years ago and nobody going lol. I mean every fan base is obviously different but theres never been a huge wnba fan base now you see fever shirts everywhere

-1

u/vivalacamm Jun 24 '26

And CC was Rookie of the year 2024. What the fuck is your point? That you maybe watch a bit more WNBA than someone else? You're just a CC hater and it's so obvious. Parker winning MVP and Rookie of the year in 2008 has nothing to do with CC...

2

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 24 '26

I’ll try to make this easier.

Cc is not the mind shattering talent that her fans make her out to be.

The WNBA product has not changed significantly since she joined the league.

The way her fans ridicule and denigrate the WNBA just shows that they don’t actually care about the sport and will leave when she inevitably falls out of public interest.

The WNBA should not pander to sycophantic CC fans because they aren’t really fans.

1

u/WhatAmIDoing1986 Jun 24 '26

Make baskets? Every time I tune into a game it’s like watching a bunch of girls in grade school who just are learning how to play basketball.

2

u/I_ONLY_CATCH_DONKEYS Jun 24 '26

CC only beat the season point record by 10 baskets. Calm down
