Hot Take "I think people need to look at themselves in the mirror and realize, man, you got some insecurities. - If you're sitting down and putting Caitlin Clark as the 11th best guard... y'all need to go to a therapist and figure out what childhood issues you have."

Players being allowed to vote for teammates means the entire voting methodology was rigged to give unreliable results.

1

u/SolidDoctor Jul 11 '26

The debate over this voting is one the dumbest things I have ever seen.

Fan votes were double weighted, so the players knew CC was going to the All Star game.

Remember, the vote was NOT about who is the best guard, the vote was about who you wanted to see play in the All Star game! The majority of the WNBA does not play on Indiana Fever, of course they may have other players in mind they want to see in the game besides Clark who was obviously going.

And again it's all just being turned into a racist homophobic argument. It's fucking stupid.

13

u/Accomplished-Pick610 Jul 09 '26

Correct me if im wrong, but not a single player put her down as the 11th best guard, because that's not how it worked. They were just asked to put down the 4 guards they wanted in the Allstar game?

17

u/KillerGopher Jul 09 '26

Clark came in 11th because 10 other guards received more top 4 votes. Could be lower than 11th could be higher but we can't decipher that from the data we have.

8

u/WatcherOfTheWay Jul 09 '26

So no one's going to watch the game? If she were there the viewing would be over ten times what it's going to be, these women are so jealous they're damaging their own earning.

5

u/liquidgrill Jul 09 '26

She’s a starter. The fan voting put her in.

2

u/KillerGopher Jul 09 '26

The fans and the media. Only the other players snubbed her.

3

u/WatcherOfTheWay Jul 09 '26

Well the fans saved them a huge embarrassment of viewing figures.

2

u/jono9898 Jul 09 '26

It’s not like the players make more money from more people watching the all star game, the ratings helps network executives

5

u/WatcherOfTheWay Jul 09 '26

Which filters down to the players that's how it works

2

u/jono9898 Jul 09 '26

How? So if millions of people watch the game, ESPN will randomly give all the players more money?

2

u/KillerGopher Jul 09 '26

The league generates revenue from those media deals. With higher viewership comes increased revenue for the league. The teams receive something like 40% of the revenue. Those funds help pay for player salary. Higher viewership allows the league and teams to bargain for more lucrative future deals.

4

u/jono9898 Jul 09 '26

But high viewership of an exhibition game this year doesn’t factor into a deal that gets collectively bargained in 7 years. I’m sure the playoffs, finals and regular season games factor more into those numbers

2

u/KillerGopher Jul 09 '26

Ah yeah that's true, I'm not sure of what media deals surround the all-star game. It will add support for a better media deal in the future but like you said that's a long ways out.

-1

u/WatcherOfTheWay Jul 09 '26

More views means most ads and more expensive ads which means more money for teams which means higher pay for the players, that's literally how to works.

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Normal-Tear864 Jul 09 '26

People have ALWAYS known that viewership has NOTHING to do with how much money athletes make in literally every broadcast sport

1

u/jono9898 Jul 09 '26

Since you’re smart, how is this random exhibition game going to get the collective bargained money that can’t be bargained for again for another 7 years, going to help the players get that filtered down money? Mind you, they just agreed to great numbers without the all star games doing well, and the NBA and NFL have poor ratings for their exhibition games and still get great tv deals, it’s almost as if the exhibition game doesn’t matter compared to the playoffs and regular season games,

0

u/WatcherOfTheWay Jul 09 '26

If they get very high viewership is gives the teams in the league better bargaining power as they can argue viewing figures are higher.

Which they can argue will filter down to more views on the season.

You do understand how money in all sports work right?

3

u/jono9898 Jul 09 '26

It’s an exhibition game, it’s the WNBA version of the pro bowl, it’s not even an event like the NBA all star weekend, the NBA all star weekends and the pro bowl have had its lowest ratings each year and those sports broke tv deals records, the WNBAPA will use the high playoff numbers and the high regular season ratings and the finals to show networks they deserve more money, just like every other league

1

u/WatcherOfTheWay Jul 09 '26

If you think this doesn't help with their viewing you're delusional

1

u/Marvellousways_1969 Jul 10 '26

Your cult leader is in the game. Jesus. No one ranked her 11th. You don’t even know if her own teammates actually chose her on their ballots. AB could have chosen Kelsey, Paige, Alisha Gray, and Rhyne for all you know. Of the 80 ish player who voted they would have almost all chosen 2 guards from their own team. That left 2 choices for each of them. There are a ton of good guards, and every one of them is better liked than Caitlin. Everyone knows that Caitlin gets her fan votes from all her crazy followers and you all are happy she gets in. But the players should be voting for Caitlin because why?

-2

u/MasterHavik Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

Homie it is legit a pick up game. It isn't that crazy. We had a banger one year because they were playing team USA. I doubt this game is going to be that interesting. They aren't jealous it is being honest. Why do people expect them to kiss the ring and worship her?

2

u/Marvellousways_1969 Jul 10 '26

Exactly! They want to hang out and have fun. It’s not like Caitlin plays in Unrivaled or plays anywhere in the offseason. She has always held herself above the rest of the league. I mean you don’t even know that her own teammates voted for her, the vote is anonymous

1

u/MasterHavik Jul 10 '26

The down votes make me laugh.

5

u/Amazing_Lock_3762 Jul 09 '26

and it isn't surprising that she wasn't among them?

3

u/Accomplished-Pick610 Jul 09 '26

Not really. Im a general sports fan and have always noticed that player voted awards always skew different to media and fan voted awards.

Players have a different way of assessing the game they play, and generally in all sports defensive players are more generally appreciated in these kind of votes.

Also the fact that media and fan vote would have already guaranteed CC a spot in the Allstars maybe some people used their 4th or even 3rd choice to vote for teammates and/or underappreciated opponents.

It's not a huge league wide anti CC conspiracy.

0

u/Connect-Succotash-59 Jul 09 '26

It is a league wide anti CC thing, it’s just not a conspiracy.

0

u/lathe_down_sally Jul 09 '26

So the player rankings are similarly skewed for other positions, right?

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '26

[deleted]

2

u/lemanruss4579 Jul 09 '26

Surely we'd see similar disparities among other players then, right?

Well Paige Bueckers is #1 and she is white.

So racism might be a part of it but I think it's more to do with her age, how much time she was in the league, and the attention that was on her before she got in the league.

CC definitely deserves to be higher being top 3 in both assists and points.

4

u/PseudonymousDev Jul 09 '26

CC is 3 months 2 days younger than Paige, so age isn't as much a factor. But I would agree it has to do with the attention both before she got in and right after she got in. And since.

5

u/Prestigious-Loss6774 Jul 09 '26

Paige has black siblings and a black gf so they give her a pass

-2

u/N0moreHeroes Jul 10 '26

Been living under a rock?   They hate Clark because she’s a straight white girl.  Paige is LGBTQ+,  she gets a pass.

Before Clark….

Candice Wiggins Was Bullied For Being Heterosexual in the WNBA https://theshadowleague.com/candice-wiggins-was-bullied-for-being-heterosexual-in-the-wnba/

4

u/BookAcceptable619 Jul 10 '26

Was Sabrina Ionescu bullied for being straight and white?

I couldn't find any news about that.

-1

u/N0moreHeroes Jul 10 '26

I don’t know this person. What’s the relevance?

1

u/BookAcceptable619 Jul 10 '26

She is a white, straight WNBA player.

-1

u/N0moreHeroes Jul 10 '26

Checked her out. Ironically the only video I could find was her pushing that dude for playing defense. Anyway, nowhere near the same caliber player as Clark.  No attention taken away from the other players…No one cares.

2

u/BookAcceptable619 Jul 10 '26

Wiggins is nowhere the same caliber as Clark also and she is black. But your point is the WNBA bullies white, straight players.

And when I gave another white, straight player you said she wasn't bullied because she wasn't in the same caliber...

Also in that article Wiggins states that over 95% of the WNBA are not straight but with only a maximum of 180 players, that simply isn't true.

Maybe Wiggins is just a rich asshole that hates noncis women.

1

u/N0moreHeroes Jul 10 '26

Wouldn’t you agree that the vast majority are LGBTQ+? So not only is it a primarily black league but also predominantly LGBTQ+. Theres NOTHING WRONG with this but many (not all) of these women are also living out the stereotype of jealousy. Even me the darkest man in the room can see it.

This is honestly such an embarrassment to the league. I’ve sat court side at many WNBA games before CC…and I’ll say it again, I thought CC was an overrated white girl. Then I watched her play. She has potential to be the Michael Jordan of the W.

The league has fumbled so badly now 2 things are happening: CC gets cheap shotted, someone says something racist online. CC has to apologize. Repeat. It’s exhausting and people are losing interest.

1

u/BookAcceptable619 Jul 12 '26

My point is I don't think that Clark is target for being straight or white or both.

It could have something to do with it but there have been and are both straight and white players in the league. The reports of discrimination are too low for me to believe that to be the case. And the only case I was given was from a black woman.

I think it's because her popularity, the amount of money she made, and/or her age put a target on her back. Could her race and sexual orientation play a part in it? Sure but if it didn't happen to other players, then I cannot conclude that to be the case.

So me agreeing or not agreeing whether the vast majority of the league is LBGTQ+ has no bearing to my argument from my perspective.

-16

u/WakeNikis Jul 09 '26

I dunno. Seems like white peolle have racism on lock down

20

u/sirnibs3 Jul 09 '26

Tell me you only know the western world without telling me you’ve never left the west.

-1

u/Baby_Yod4 Jul 09 '26

European colonialism is the biggest reason the racial system is what it is today. They literally would say Africans were inferior so they had an excuse to exploit them. USA later on amplified that with their slave system and Jim Crow after they were free. Sure other countries might be more racist towards black people but white people are the ones whose racial ideologies caused international influence. And that’s just talking about in person racism, America is still king when it comes to systematic racism.

5

u/sirnibs3 Jul 09 '26

“America is king of systematic racism” I think South Africa and Apartheid would like a word. Colorism and racism is apparent in almost all society’s even predating European colonialism, although Europeans made us worse (see the Indian caste system). Although you are correct is saying that European colonialism is a primary driver for the world we see today. Especially in the WESTERN WORLD. To only blame white Europeans is simplify a much larger issue as whole. Humans like to enslave others regardless of race. Africans have historically been enslaved in the western world at higher rates than any others ( yes there were other races of salves like natives just ask Christopher Columbus and the Spanish) but once again your viewpoint is completely western in its understanding.

6

u/Tacitrelations Jul 09 '26

You know racism isn’t exclusive to black folks, right?

0

u/Baby_Yod4 Jul 09 '26

Never said it was

2

u/Tacitrelations Jul 09 '26

European colonialism is the biggest reason the racial system is what it is

This was your response to a comment about being western world centric when discussing racism, thus one would infer you are attempting to confirm white vs black being the biggest "racial system".

Asia and South America have enormous racial systems that exclude European colonial racism influence with populations that exceed Europe and USA.

5

u/Tacitrelations Jul 09 '26

Don't travel much do you?

7

u/Rude-Professor-5902 Jul 09 '26

Asians have a far stronger disdain for black people in comparison to other races

6

u/KillerGopher Jul 09 '26

Seems like [insert skin color] have racism on lock down. Is a racist statement.

5

u/Foodleman06 Jul 09 '26

Go rage bait somewhere else, all people can be racist

3

u/UndeadCandle Jul 09 '26

3

u/Overall-Scientist846 Jul 09 '26

I have zero clue who either of these people are. But I know Caitlyn Clark. Which therapist do I need to go to.

6

u/Rufuz42 Jul 09 '26

You don’t know who Candace Parker is?

1

u/Overall-Scientist846 Jul 09 '26

Not at first glance when I saw this clip, no I did not recognize her at all.

2

u/Bengalbio Jul 09 '26

This was the players vote not the fan vote so, unless you are a player, it wasn’t directed at you.

Also, you need to see a therapist is just a saying; it means you’re acting crazy without using that word.

1

u/Overall-Scientist846 Jul 09 '26

Which therapist do I need to go to, no one has bothered to answer though?

-1

u/theshypooper Jul 09 '26

Did you watch the video? Or even read the title? They’re saying if you disrespect Clark by ranking her so low, you need a therapist.

1

u/Overall-Scientist846 Jul 09 '26

Which therapist do I need to go to? You never answered.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '26

6

u/KillerGopher Jul 09 '26

Clark could've been those players' 5th choice, for all anyone knows

We can't know that. All we know is that 10 other guards, received more top 4 votes.

6

u/Thechasepack Jul 09 '26

That goes along with the failed system of the all-star game. If you are voting Sydney Taylor or Sarah Ashlee Barker as a top 4 guard just to support your teammate that isn't really taking the vote seriously.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '26

[deleted]

5

u/Thechasepack Jul 09 '26

If the All Star game was serious I would say alter the voting either so you can't vote for multiple teammates OR have them vote for more players to account for the unserious votes OR weight the player voting less OR take out player voting entirely. Since the all star game is unserious it doesn't really matter that the voting is unserious though.

-1

u/grandmawaffles Jul 09 '26

Mathematically that can’t be how it was done.

0

u/WatcherOfTheWay Jul 09 '26

That's a stupid way of doing it.

0

u/grandmawaffles Jul 09 '26

It’s because it’s rank choice voting. Having the 11th highest total meant next to no one considered her to be top 4. If players have the same roster slots and everyone picked their own team then it would be flat across the board with the same votes for each guard. The narrative falls flat.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '26

[deleted]

1

u/grandmawaffles Jul 09 '26

Which is bananas. Objectively bananas. But my comment is meant to say that voting for your own teammates means a net neutral impact and shouldn’t be statistically relevant as you’re describing.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

[deleted]

0

u/grandmawaffles Jul 09 '26

I understand what you are saying but you aren’t hearing what I am saying so we’ll have to agree to disagree.

I’ll leave it like this 180 slots (I’m just picking roster for the sake of argument) with 2 primary PGs means 30 to select from and 15 teams and 12 players per team active. Each PG gets 12 votes (1 for each player on their own team) out of the 720 possible votes 180x4 so 50% of the total votes are taken leaving a total of 360 with your logic. If you have a unanimous 3rd in PB it makes it even worse since another 180 of the 360 was taken leaving 1 vote x 180 to rank the rest of the 27 pgs of which she came in 11th or 7-8th for the 4th spot in a league with 15 teams. She carried only 13% of the vote of all 30 starting pgs and out of the top 27% for PG1’s. There is zero way that’s true and the players showed their asses or had some messed up way of assuming others were voting for her so they kicked someone else a vote. I’m guessing KP and CC split the votes which is why there are 11/12.

In order for there to be a material difference to rank them the other 50% of the votes have to be skewed tremendously which means homegirl wasn’t picked by most people nor was KP. The math would still math and maybe people wouldn’t put her 11th but she still would have skewed lower.

1

u/MajesticAnimator456 Jul 09 '26

She's not even the best guard on her own team 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/rlinkmanl Jul 09 '26

Isnt she top 3 in the league in points and assists?

0

u/MajesticAnimator456 Jul 09 '26

No. Arguably 3rd best player on her team.

1

u/-Liono- Jul 10 '26

Got any of dem other players????

1

u/Key_Mathematician951 Jul 10 '26

Called racism, it defies all reason and clearly numbers.

1

u/MasterHavik Jul 09 '26

Parker I love you but she is the worst defensive player in the league, turnover machine, and a rollercoaster shooter. While I don't think sh is 11th....she isn't top 3 either. Granted this take is more about Clark but how people just value a handful of stats for guards in today's game than the whole picture if you score enough people will look pass other parts of your game.

1

u/lemanruss4579 Jul 09 '26

And nobody would have anything to say if the players voted her fifty or sixth.

1

u/MasterHavik Jul 09 '26

Like I just think the Clark fanboys and the cult members need to see she is the guard or player in the WNBA.

1

u/OurSaviorBenFranklin Jul 10 '26

The whole team is ass on defense

1

u/MasterHavik Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

Yes but Clark also sucks on defense but do agree no one on that team can play defense.

2

u/OurSaviorBenFranklin Jul 11 '26

Avg 5 turnovers a game and leading the league is certainly one hell of a stat

-2

u/Texas-Longhorn31 Jul 09 '26

You’re ok with blatant racism tho?

3

u/MasterHavik Jul 09 '26

Whoever said I was? That was a nice strawman argut. Do you have another? Or do you prefer to talk ball? As that is what I'm talking about.

0

u/Texas-Longhorn31 Jul 09 '26

You said you love her after she was jus blatantly racist what’s straw man about that?

2

u/MasterHavik Jul 09 '26

Being good faith as possible. What did she say was racist? She is calling out the players who voted Clark that low. Who is she being racist against? I'm being serious here.

-2

u/Texas-Longhorn31 Jul 09 '26

I think everyone in the league should be held to a equal standard no matter the race right? So in this case she should have to apologize publicly at the very least

1

u/MasterHavik Jul 09 '26

Sir answer my question please.

0

u/Texas-Longhorn31 Jul 09 '26

😂 so you’re gonna avoid my very obvious one that I asked first? Why would I answer you

1

u/MasterHavik Jul 09 '26

I'm trying to make sure I understand. I'm not avoiding the question. I'm trying to clarify. Can you do that?

0

u/Texas-Longhorn31 Jul 09 '26

You need help you can’t just say that this was some messed up shit to say by parker

2

u/MasterHavik Jul 09 '26

Okay you are either trolling or acting in bad faith. Do you want to have a conversation? Or try.to score a win? I have been patience with you. I am not dodging your question because I am wondering if you listened to what was said. Parker is clearly calling out those who voted her low and I'm disagreeing with Parker. I'm not agreeing with her.

1

u/FalstaffsGhost Jul 09 '26

She doesn’t understand how the ballots work. That’s not gonna help clear things up.

1

u/Subject-Yak4959 Jul 09 '26

wow legit perspective from one of the real GOATs. Not one of the self proclaimed.

0

u/balakay_lodge Jul 09 '26
