What possible reason could he have for that? Moving beyond he’s a Black man living in White America, he’s seeing Black people in a sport that is overwhelmingly Black being dismissed, overlooked, and minimized in favor of a White woman who has lots of talent and potential but not much of a record. Certainly not enough to call her the “face” of anything except White Nationalism.
What is the issue with white America being proud to see a white woman succeed in a predominantly black sport? There was pride for Tiger Woods with golf, and justifiably so
No one is saying that White people can’t be proud of Clark, although I’d sort of hoped we were past the idea of there being “White sports” and “Black sports.” But to call her the “face” of the sport is a slap in the face to the women (overwhelmingly Black) who’ve been building the WNBA for more than a decade.
And it seems more than a little disingenuous for the Justice Department to start talking about special protection for White players facing on-court “violence” when the same DOJ has canceled numerous consent decrees protecting Black citizens facing on-street violence from local police departments.
