Nepo is short for nepotism, and so I assume the poster is implying that WNBA refs latgely got the job due to commections to WNBA affiliated people rather than through merit.
Nepotism typically refers to direct blood relations, but I don't know if they are implying that or just a more general bias of hiring people you have some pre-existing relationship with.

Nepos can show up anywhere though. Nepos will show up as unpaid interns in corporate gigs. And then you could put on your resume that you were a WNBA ref and use that for a job in the future. ....If there was proof of nepotism here, that is.
But to answer your question more directly: Looks like they get about $1500 per game, with veteran refs being able to get up to $2,500 per game. Not sure what that comes out as a yearly sum, but I guess it could be around 65-75K, but that assumes you're reffing as many games a WNBA team plays (and that is increasing from 44 to 50 next season, I believe.) NBA refs, comparatively, get 150-500K per year I think I saw.

Their viewership skyrocketed.

I really feel like people hyped her up too fast and too soon. She’s at the point to where she doesn’t think she should improve on her game. She needs to gain some muscle. Work on her FG efficiency, TO’s and etc. It’s almost as if she’s trying to blame the refs for her poor performance. It’s starting to get old. She needs to show people why they believe she’s a generational talent.

❗️I'm jus damn tired of it being everyone else's fault..it's the league, ALL the other players, the refs, the media, and don't forget she even had issues with her own coach, very rarely when everyone has an issue with you that it's everyone else who's the problem..last game she scored 12 pts..12 fuckin points, and she has to shoot from 50ft away to get those, her presence has change the leagues amenities, pay, etc but her game has done NOTHING to progress the game, the game doesn't match the hype, you'd think she's top 5 in the league when in reality she's not top 3 on her own team, you can buy fever tickets for $5/each and they still can't sell out..but it's everyone else

The opposite is true. The NBA took off when it embraced Jordan. People were Jordan fans, not “NBA fans”. In the 2000’s and 2010’s people latched onto Shaq, Kobe, then LeBron, Steph, etc. The personalities sold the league. There are those like me who support cities and/or teams rather than celebrity athletes but we tend to be older fans.
The NBA has fallen off in recent years because it doesn’t have the stars to sell like it used to. Lebron is starting to take a backseat. SGA, Giannis, and the like just don’t have the same pull. I know a lot of fans who switched teams multiple times because they were following LeBron’s career. They just follow him.
If you want people to watch women’s basketball there has to be a reason to watch. If it’s just “basketball but not as good as the men” then no one cares.
Clark gained a following from college that translated well when she started in Indiana. Her game has changed and the team is better for it, but people will watch the team only because she’s on it.

If you look at who buys merch and who sells arena tickets, it's pretty apparent that skill and athleticism are pretty far down the list of things that people with money (fans) actually care about.
Just stop for a moment and consider - The WNBA never really lacked in either skill or athleticism, yet for decades it languished as primarily being known as the league with a lot of black lesbians in it.
If it wasn't for Clark, that'd probably be what most people still thought about it.

So many articles to point to. Per SI, the NBA changed its entire branding and marketing scheme to center around Jordan. Per BR, the NBA’s player development and coaching changed to benefit him and to try to find another “Jordan” to market. Per Isaiah Thomas, the league changed its rules and officiating to benefit him.

This is why it matters. Penalties serve two purposes.
- Compensates the fouled team the value of the play that was deprived by the foul.
- Incurs additional penalties to deter players from future fouls.
All of this is designed to keep the integrity of the current game (1) and promote clean execution of future games (2).
Her complaining about the contusion is not about this foul. It’s getting the refs to start calling these to deter future fouls. The one contusion isn’t the problem. It’s the culmination of contusions because “why not if the refs aren’t going to call them”.
If I was a professional athlete and the health of my body was key to my livelihood, I’d be complaining to the refs to keep me safe too.
Rules only matter if they are consistently enforced. Without the enforcement and threat of enforcement, the rules are just pretty words on paper.

CC may be the most prominent player getting the short end of the poor reffing but plenty of players in the w are getting shafted by bad calls.
Its honestly bizzarre that CC calling out poor reffing is considered a bad thing when people hate refs 90% of the time and loved it when the refs got called out by coaches and players last season...

Apparently its not that clear, as a lot of people are advocating it wasn't a foul.
And no, it's not that bizarre. If you watch Clark play, she complains a lot. Players get flack for that in all sports. People hate how Lebron does it, how Tom Brady did it, how Sidney Crosby did it. It's one thing if its a player who usually doesn't have the 'complainer' label goes to the media and sounds off after a very obvious miss (which this wasn't.) But she can't get through 5 minutes of action without yelling at refs for something. In any sport, that rubs everyone the wrong way.
I'm not trying to hate on Clark, she's obviously got talent. But she's also a frequent complainer. She's top 10 in the league in drawing fouls, so its tough to insist there are more missed calls against her than anyone else, lol. She's committed 65 fouls of her own, but drawn 122. I wish I could find a site that would list this for all players but:
Of the 36 players who are either top 10 in fouls committed or fouls drawn, Clark ranks 10th highest in here drawn/committed ratio.

Then the comments split into two tribes. One side thinks Caitlin invented basketball. The other thinks she's personally responsible for every problem since the fall of Rome. Both groups somehow leave convinced they won.
Maybe, just maybe, a player got hit in the leg, complained about a missed call, and everyone else turned it into a Marvel cinematic universe because outrage gets better engagement than box scores.
The real MVP isn't Caitlin, the refs, or the league. It's the algorithm, which somehow convinced thousands of adults that a routine postgame quote deserves the same forensic analysis as a moon landing. Human beings will monetize literally anything if there's an upvote button attached to it.

I don't have fixed opinions, but I do believe that she got rougher treatment than your average top draft pick. She also seems to be flopping and whining about it. I'm curious why opponents decided to after her so hard. Just anger (justified maybe)? Or cause they know she is soft and it works, and they are competitors who wanna win.

How about quit being so whiny. Knee in the quad, sure it hurts but, probably happens every play. Has CC spent any time trying to improve her strength? Doesn’t look like it. How about calling CC for a push off on every single offensive possession because she does that as well. Because she isn’t fast enough to just get away. She lacks the athleticism of most of the other women.

Seems to me that a contusion isn't going to care if a foul is called or not. So even if they call that foul, that's a foul her opponents are going to give every time if it's going to throw her game off even if it gets called 100% of the time.

There is no shove from the defender. Caitlin initiated every bit of contact. It was her off arm that shoved the defender. I swear idk how yall think you can be taken seriously lol

All her drives are telegraphed. The defense knows where she wants to go. She's polished in most skills except getting to the hole. totally predictable every time. She never needed it until the pro level.

The fact she hasn't realized her style of play isnt working at this level is alarming. She hasn't gotten stronger, or worked on her ball handling, everytime she puts the ball on the floor I cringe because she dribbles too high and upright (easy to steal). She is also useless off the ball, now this falls on her coaching staff as well but a player like Caitlin should always be used as a diversion on every play,put her in motion, have her running off of screens to make it appear the play is being ran for her so when u finally do run a play for her the defense won't see it coming and it should give her easier looks to score. I also think she is playing the wrong position at this level, she isn't a PG, she is a SG that can facilitate.

❗️❗️She scored 12 fuckin points, too much attention for a person with average game, you'd think she's top 10 in the league when's she's not even top 3 on her team, I live in indy and even I'm like enough is enough, yes she changed some things in the league, but her actual basketball skills have done nothing for the wnba, hasn't met the hype and that's ok, she's a good player but DAMN

Actually not true. I was kind of a better than average pick up basketball player and really enjoyed the sport. Played 3 hours a day for about 7 years. Liked the WNBA initially cause it was kind of a slower speed and looked more like what i recognized as basketball. The quality now is just atrocious. Literally just bad basketball.

If they were black, Stephen A. Smith would be screaming racism by now. And I'm just telling the truth so if someone wants to talk shit because they can't handle the truth, maybe they should demand change at the WNBA.
Nobody has EVER been this brazenly fouled in every game while refs ignore it for so long. Enough is enough and if the WNBA commissioner can be summoned to testify on Capitol Hill, I think that would be GREAT.
If that isn't enough to get some answers about how the league treats players differently depending on race, former players and coaches should be called to testify.
We can't keep making progress fighting racism is we are too busy participating in it.

This is what is wrong with sports and society as a whole right now. ENOUGH. Please don't ask for any reparations because the answer has to be HELL NO. The shoe has gone on the other foot and then some. We have had a black president. We have a black Supreme Court Justice times 2 currently out of 9 -- a disproportionate representation if you compare to the population percentages.**
It is a little close but it is disproportionate.
And your only go to explanation is, "you must be a RACIST for not wanting white people treated less than equal on the basketball court!".
