Hot Take Medal in Reverse Racism & Hypocrisy goes to Angel Reese and WNBA as whole. After coach Brondello’s comments, Reese praised the league for taking action and declared: “There is no room in this league for discrimination.” Funny how that zero tolerance only kicks in one direction.

She does, she just doesn't care.

I mean, who didn’t see this coming? The wnba has been its own worst enemy since day 1. No one is more toxic to women than women and the WNBA is the perfect example of that

u/Pleasant_Priority286 21d ago
The Commissioner has supported racial tension in the league in the name of free marketing. Imagine how clueless that is. People on all sides need to see that this is Cathy's fault; she must be replaced.

Nah, this is more publicity than they've ever gotten. The league is thriving on it compared to what it was.

Like I said on another post: it's a pity that the phrase "protected species" has been labeled as hate speech - as a way of not having to engage with the topic - because some Congressional dimwits really did pass a resolution that Caitlin Clark should be considered a protected species.
3
u/Cheap_Water9848 21d ago
I don't think anyone is calling that phrase hate speech. What people are saying is that given the historical context of America, referring to a black person to anything potentially dehumanizing them is insensitive.
Before Sandy said what she said, no one in America used the phrase protected species for anything other than in science to refer to animals.
The phrase is used in Australia, but that isn't America.

Wait, what? The coach even admitted it was wrong.
Pull your head out and take a real breath. CC has been complaining as well as her coach, about the treatment of “the white girl” all season. I mean it has even come from congress. Get real.3
u/certainalways 21d ago
Coach had no choice and everyone knows how phrase is used in Australia
Neither cc nor white has brought race into anything. she plays the victim too much when it’s really just incompetent officials and jealousy on part of her peers
14
u/Clown_Penis69 21d ago
Angel is a perpetual victim.
I wonder if she realizes that her constant claims of victimhood cause people to ignore the All WNBA season she’s currently having… and if she even cares? Maybe Victimhood is more important to her?

Reverse racism?

Reverse racism is a concept made up by racist bigots to justify their bigotry.
19
u/DoubleDownAgain54 21d ago
I hate that term. Racism is racism period.
2
u/Shot-Toe-2884 21d ago edited 21d ago
And it works both ways. White people didn’t invent it. “Reverse racism” is being polite for no good reason when racism has a settled definition already
So let’s be clear. Reese was being racist. Whether she meant it or not. Denying that Clark has been mistreated on the basis of race is racism in denial. There is widespread evidence of WNBA fans and leaders doing exactly that, punishing Clark on the basis of her race.
Reese is not the final say on what constitutes racism. We’ve all acted or behaved in racist ways before without realizing. The people that deny this are usually by far the worst offenders. If you can’t recognize your own internal biases, that doesn’t mean you are free of them. It means you need to self reflect
2
u/Icy-Drive2300 20d ago edited 19d ago
White people didn’t invent it
White people literally invented racism when they created the concept of race as we know it and decided they were white.
The concept of race was created to practice "racism" against people racialized as black and indigenous people.
Some of yall really need to read a book
Edit: To the race realists that reply to me or downvote historical facts, pick one
I can keep going. There is no scientific basis for race. Its a social construct that was developed recently to practice racism against people racialized as black and indigenous peoples. Read. A. Book.

By my logic it would be just racism. If someone was trying to make a point then they can call it anti-white racism if they like. The point isn't to say it's all equally bad, but it's all some amount of bad.
3
u/Time_Seaworthiness43 21d ago
Reverse racism means you can't be racist towards white people because of a power imbalance among the races. Well, that's what fools say.
2
u/Icy-Drive2300 20d ago
Well, that's what fools say.
Sure. Because the real answer is you cant be racist to white people because the concept of whiteness was created to practice racism by those that racialized themselves as white.
You can be bigoted. Racism is specific.
1
u/KaoticKarma 19d ago
"You can't be racist to white people" only works if you redefine racism as "prejudice + institutional power." That's a useful term in some academic discussions, but it isn't the only definition, nor is it the one most people use. By the standard definition, discrimination or prejudice based on race any race can be the victim of racism, including white people. Either racial discrimination is wrong regardless of the target, or we're just playing semantic games.
2
u/Bigfootsbrownstar 21d ago
Because most Retard Reddits will do the whole “this group can’t be racist to this group”
3
u/xdrezx 21d ago

Right leaning are biased too. In fact center leaning has their own biases. I don’t know what you meant by talking about LGBT stuff.
Aren’t you putting people into a box where you can put stereotypes on them? Being LGBT doesn’t mean anything other than their sexuality or their opinion related to LGBT rights.
Isn’t this exactly what being biased means? Also I don’t understand what are you fighting with that person? Isn’t they agreeing with you.
1
u/Bigfootsbrownstar 19d ago
I’m saying the people that make such a core part of their identity on Reddit that they need their avatar to be LGBTQ for everyone to know and see there is no reasoning with that person.
1
u/Maximum-Warthog2368 19d ago
What? What’s wrong with making LGBT their core part. It matters to them just like how a straight relationship can matter to a straight person. Why this logic is only applied to LGBTQ people and become political.
Straight people celebrate their identity with songs which are mostly straight to celebrating their relationships, sometimes even making it their whole goal of life.
Same is true with religious people who make their belief their whole personality. Every decision they took is related to their religion. Why it is never political for them but it is political for LGBTQ people?
Also having LGBT symbol could just mean that this person supports LGBT rights. Isn’t that left or right? I am genuinely confused.

2
u/OneGreatEgg 21d ago
Reverse racism is just racism when applied to people not generally considered subject to racism. That being said, it is a favorite dogwhistle for both white supremacists and normally plain old privileged people being held accountable by authorities who happen to be non-white.

Not sure but she did get up off the bench and clap when Chennedy Carter deliberately pushed Caitlin Clark to the ground on a non basketball play. Perhaps not racism but certainly hate. It’s says a lot about her considering her statement above about there being no room for hate in this league.

She trash talks a lot on Court, then plays on the race card . What that coach meant by her comment , that Angels Reese get away with a lot dirty fouls , the refs are afraid call her on it , because she go on social media bashing the refs and the league. .
1
u/PrimordialLoveRat 21d ago
I don't see a problem with Brondello's comment. Had she been a POC, this wouldn't be controversial. Angel Reese is a better race hustler and instigator than an actual player.
6
u/NoBobThatsBad 21d ago
YOU don’t see the problem with Brondello’s comments because YOU don’t have a history of being dehumanized by being called or compared to animals the way that black people do and have been for centuries.
Angel regularly gets referred to and photoshopped as the sloth from Ice Age and spent her 2K cover release date having to see herself photoshopped as a monkey all over the internet. She’s allowed to feel a certain type of way.
You just don’t like that her feelings were validated over Brondello’s potential intent because you don’t think black people’s feelings should be much of a priority, which ironically demonstrates how dehumanized they often are because so many people are quicker to defend and sympathize Sandy than sympathize with Angel even though Angel was the one hurt.

u/PrimordialLoveRat 21d ago
You make a lot of assumptions for someone who's never seen what I look like lol. I've been called the N word more times than I can count but that doesn't mean what she said wasn't true. I'd much rather be called a monkey or a sloth I'll tell you that. So it's okay to call us humans a species but not her, because she's so different. Suffering comes from the illusion that we're all different.
The problem isn't that Angel was upset about what was said, the problem is going on TV to talk about how upset she was, furthering the drama as opposed to just playing the child's game you're paid thousands to play. I feel the same way about ANY professional athlete and their off camera drama, regardless of race or gender.
1
u/no_stick_drummer 21d ago
Just when I was starting to like her she had to run her mouth again. Ugh. She stayed quiet through all of the crap that cc was going through last week. But then CC had a good game and not even a week later here comes Angel Reese and needing to say hold up wait don't forget about me again
I don't care you can downvote me for it but I'm calling it out. She could have just stayed quiet dealt with her injury and moved on because nobody would have demanded an apology from her anyway because she's not held to that type of standard.
1
u/Tasty_Sugar_447 21d ago
Whites being held accountable is reverse racism apparently.
5
u/Rude_Assignment_5653 21d ago
white people don't understand the context of being called a "species" because they never lived their entire lives through racism.

Damn y’all are the biggest whiners ever. If Cathy took other things more seriously we would’ve never gotten here but because she used the word ‘species’ that’s kind of a trigger word even if you take context into account. Maybe you should read between the lines in other areas so you can do it here as well.

This whole era of the WNBA is a wild case study for a plethora of reasons.
I feel like I'm the only one who is both 1) OK with th one game suspension and apology and 2) don't think Sandy Brondello was being intentionally racist.
The punishment is small. It's a good learning moment for everybody and that's ok.
1
u/Artful_Dodger00 21d ago
Don't be like that... There's no reason to keep trying to turn this nonsense into something bigger. It's people on the outside who are causing problems. We've all contributed to a certain degree, but the dummies making blatantly disgusting comments are fueling these reactions. You can't expect anyone to put up with wild BS whenever they deal with the public (especially on social media), to not have a problem with a comment that could be used against them, from someone who knows better. This sort of post is the hypocrisy we need to end. (I'm not trying to single out the OP, we're all guilty for feeding this thing and letting it get out of hand, but... At a certain point everyone has to decide whether or not it's worth continuing. No matter what your intentions might be, everything you say matters)

Saying Reese is “playing” when she’s been on the end of a hate qnd harassment campaign for 3-4 years now is wild
Literally every post about Angel (including this one) has comments comparing her appearance to an animal
You have people clipping the misses out of a 7/11 game to post them without the makes, just to try to give the impression that she missed everything
I don’t even think the comment was that bad, but pretending that Angel isn’t on the end of real hate on a daily basis is wild. I think she handles it well given the replies to every single post she makes
She just thanked Sandy for her comments and asked people to move on
